So you weren't wearing your seat belt? Bet you won't forget again. I have no idea how people can be stupid enough to not to take the extra 2 seconds to buckle up.

I'm sorry but if you don't buckle up in the future, expect this to happen again.

That's horrible man... I'm sorry to see a fellow niconaught put through that, but like everyone else has said, thank god you are alive. So much worse could have happened from those photos.

As far as giving up on older sports cars, I wouldn't just yet. Like others have said, any car would have crumpled like paper being hit like that, I was driving a dodge dakota and was T-boned going through an intersection and looking at the pictures later of the truck, it looked like I should've been killed. It all depends on how hard someone hits you, no amount of air bags or safety precautions will protect you from some idiot going 45 mph head on into your vehicle.

This makes me want to install at least a 4 point harness into the 240 I get in the future. I'm so small though I probably have a lot more room to move in the car. (I'm 5'7" and 160 pounds)

Take care though and get better as soon as possible!

On a completely joking side.... how much for the wheels?

well, worst case scenario has occurred. the insurance company told me they don't cover lost wages. about the only thing i'm getting is my hospital bills paid. there's a $200 deductible on what they are going to pay me on the car, which only has an NADA value of ~2500. i'm pissed to the point of tears right now. i feel like i've taken the biggesst screwing ever. out of work for AT LEAST 2 months, and pretty much my only option is to sue the guy and wwait for him to not pay with what he doesn't have.in the meantime i can't pay my house note, electric bill, cable bill, home and auto insurance, doctor's copay and prescription costs. probably a good thing i'm pretty much trapped in my house right now.

I would sue him then, if he can't pay they will take it out of his wages something like 30% of what he makes will go to you until it is all paid off. I would call all of your bill companies and explain the situation immediately and see if anything could be worked out. I know companies like to know why you aren't paying and if you explain right away I'm sure something could be worked out. That sucks so much man

Sounds like you need to work something out with the other guy, whether it be an agreement or it be to take legal action against him. It's not fair to you, and you surely should not be the one getting the crap end of the stick in this situation.

That sux....

I would check and see if he was the owner of the van. It's possible that being a 21yo dishwasher it may be owned by his parents or someone else. If that's the case then the owner is also responsible for not having insurance and such and would be liable along with the driver.

Add a 0 to that # and it will be realistic. I went in for dropping a 18 lb starter on my finger and split it open. Got a sterri strip (high tech bandaid) and a tetnus shot. Bill was $1100. I wouldnt be suprised if its over 100K.

^ Only safe if the truck automatically put his seatbelt on for um.

Sucks it happened but **** coulda been way worse. Cant say the car isnt well built cause you're still alive, thing performed just like it should at a 45+ miler an hour head on hit.

BTW, id probably hire a lawyer that knows what hes doing to get you the money you deserve. Here in the US we pay insurace for a reason, I wouldnt settle for that bull ****.

You might have underinsured coverage on your policy. What this means is if the other guy's insurance is not sufficient, then you claim your injuries on your own insurance.

Don't take a word the insurance guys say as the whole truth. It might sound bad, but usually a lawyer in this case will settle the case much more quickly and with better results.

I used to be a police officer and I worked a lot of accidents, insurance companies are notorious for trying to get you to settle quickly for peanuts when your policy or the other guy's policy covers so much more. I've seen insurance adjustors at the hospital with releases!!!

Don't worry about work or anything else except your health for now. Don't make any settlements until all of your medical treatment has finished.

30% of minimum wage isnt gonna help the guy till his grand children come around-- the guy that hit him was a dishwasher

id definately get an attorney. see what you can get from your own insurance.

I hate people, this is why premiums are so high... the other driver should get run over with a car and see how he likes it. Our system is soo messed up.

hope you get better bro... and always remeber to buckle up!

it appears that nationwide is stepping up and doing the right thing,,,,

the first CONFIRMED figure has come in today. after a $200 deductible on the car, i will be receiving a check for $2900 for the 1990 nissan 240sx SE hatch. i had considered selling the car a few months ago, and was willing to take $2800, so this is a little more than expected FOR THE CAR, and i still have a $400 brand-new A/C compressor i can sell separately. minimum down time from work is confirmed at 2 months, 3 months max.

i had a friend pulling some stuff for me, like my 2 12" kick subs, the kicker zr360 amp, the 4ga. wire, optima battery, the tag , and any personal items still left in the car, he told me the rear strut bar was SNAPPED IN HALF.

seems i've already got a good grizzly adams thing started.

get well, bro!

one of my wife's customers works at a small home-cooking truck-stop diner. shauna went to get us lunch from this place, and it turns out that another lady that works there is the mom of the guy who hit me. she wasn't there, but they informed my wife that the son is in alot of trouble. apparently he has no license, of course no insurance, the van he was driving was borrowed from his aunt, AND the tag on the van was for a completely different vehicle.

it seems he has screwed up in the past already, and hasn't learned his lesson. i'm ready to go for the jugular now.

i'm already starting to reconsider narrowing my vehicle choices.

yeah, they better, especially with how i got ticketed.

the HP officer found an old expired insurance card on the floorboard of my car. either an EMT or this officer dug my wallet out of my rear pocket, i was leaning to assist, entirely conscious and coherent they entire time. he pull my license out of the wallet, which also contains a current VALID insurance card, then writes me a ticket for the old card, and never even asked me or my wife at the scene if we had valid insurance. now i have to go to the HP office and show a valid card to get the ticket dropped. they're lucky i have to go by there to get the accident report anyways.

how can they ticket me like that when i never PRESENTED that card as proof of insurance?

first hospital bill came in today.

just over $78,000. the titanium "implants" alone were over $16,000.

i've got one expensive right leg.

that doesn't include the ambulance ride, the orthopedic surgeon, prescriptions, etc. that's JUST the hospital's bill.

Yeah I kind of laughed inside a little when you estimated $7k...my buddy got into a similar accident over the summer with similar injuries and owed ~$50k before a lawyer.....

Anyways, good luck recuperating and hopefully something can be worked out with that punk

yeah, you sensed the sarcasm? lol.

i knew it was major,,,6 days admitted, CT scans, over 400mg morphine, dilaudin, soma, etc. 120 straight hours of IV antibiotics, surgery, and the fact i came in through the emergency entrance, rather than the cheaper entrance. the medical costs are going to be well over 100k
