Sorry, dude, but you brought it on yourself.
I was linked to this thread, and I apologize for raining on your parade here, BUT...
Your injuries would not have been as severe as they are had you worn your seatbelt. S13s, and many other Jap rides of the era, PUT YOUR SEATBELT ON FOR YOU.So, you have to go OUT OF YOUR WAY to NOT wear it.
I've been in lots of wrecks in everything from a '66 Buick Special to an '86 Civic WagoVan to, most recently, an '01 Exploder.
I have never been seriously injured in any of them, including the wreck in the Buick, WHICH ONLY HAD A LAP BELT.
Sorry, but whining and crying about something that was completely in your control - no, you couldn't have stopped the moron in the van from hitting you - is ridiculous. You're right...a permanent handicap placard is a wake-up call. I know other people brought it up, but nobody straight up told you, probably because you're an active member and they don't want to hurt your feelings, that it's YOUR FAULT you will be out of work for three months. It is YOUR FAULT that you were SO severely injured.
I've wrecked two 1986 Thunderbirds. One was more f**ked up than your car.I walked away.
Not to be a d!ck, and I hate to feel the need to register to make such a negative post, but good lord, your wife may have been better off had you been killed in this accident if you have good life insurance. Now she's saddled to a cripple for the rest of your life...all because you didn't want to wear your seatbelt.
Take it for what it's worth.
