Stopped by my boys garage to pick up the tool needed to file fit the compression rings. Here is his little project that he is working on. 1000whp 3000gt with a 3.8L mivec engine fully built from an eclipse. Bored and stroked to a 4.0L Should be pretty nasty!!

finally put the block together:

I trust this gasket:

I pulled the head out of the plastic and checked it out for the 1st time. The ports on both intake and exhaust sides looked a little rough...well looked alot of rough. I will be dropping the head back off at the machine shop. I may be over reacting but I thought the ports are suppose to be super smooth??

Finally gave the lifters a bath:

should be painting the engine bay over the weekend.

Intake ports you don't want a mirror finish on but the exhaust ports you could.

A freind of mine had his head done up at RLZ and when we installed his head gasket I remeber both ports looking like glass. Is that an extra fee or something??

If I remember right you don't want the intake to be smooth like glass because you want the air tumbling around so it will spread the injector spray better or something.

May I suggest you look into the new aeromotive stealth pump? It is near the size of a walbro and is a direct drop in but flows a whopping 340lph!! There are flow charts on ls1tech I saw of independent tests that showed way way less flow drop at high pressures compared to a walbro. And its only about $175!!

http://aeromotiveinc.com/products-page/

Also the rough intake ports help with fuel atomization I believe.

I stayed at work long enough to fabricate my oil pick up. The old and larger pickup is off my boys 3000gt. He isnt using it any more so I put it to use. Saved my pocket $40 bucks or so.... Im happy with the out come and ive already test fit it. Its good!

Thanks man. for some reason I love fabricating. If I left it all alone the car would have been running a while ago!! Still waiting on my fueling stuff. Should be hitting the dyno the weekend after next.

*Any pointers on breaking in a engine? Seems that everyone has there own methods....

ive broken my engines in hard... avoid high revving, but put a load on it like go up a steap long hill, then go back down it ( while letting the engine decel down it) repeat this a few times change oil...

ill put about 500 miles on it before i switch to my favortie oil...

make sure AFR's are where there supposed to be...

Some people breakin on the dyno as well... once the engines clearances are set, there not gonna change... the loading of the engine is stritcly for ring seating..

My downpipe was is one peice and its way to much work to take it in and out so for the time being I just hacked it in half. Been driving the car around the back roads with open DP and man does she sound good! for some reason nistune isnt recognizing my usb cable from the ecu to the laptop. Ill look into it again before the weeks up but for now im seeing 14 with a blip to 13 afr while staying under 4 grand. Ill shoot some videos soon!

Im using the cable that came with the nistune kit. I wanna say its the plm cable. Has a computer board insulated in some clear heat shrink with a couple of leds. Everything was working about 3 months ago. I just updated the software by deleteing the old stuff and now its saying that it cant find some FDI file or something...

I think it's in the system32 folder of windows. If it's the same file I'm thinking about.

FTDI - They make the USB / Serial chipsets.
Re-install the drivers for the consult cable, or snag them from Blazt.

I got Nistune working again but for some reason the innovate wideband isnt? I put the exhaust back on today and I noticed a weird bottom end noise this afternoon. Its kinda got me worried. I hear it around 4 grand at partial throttle. Is this normal since the motor is still fresh or do I need to assume the worst? I did a compression test and all cylinders dry checked in at 120-130.

Whats it sound like? rod bearings?

see im not even sure. It sounds a little high to be rod knock. doesnt really have that deep base sounding knock. I would have taken a video of the noise but I have already torn it down to inspect the lifters. The noise is coming from cylinder #6. I verifyed the noise with my freinds *stephescope* its louder on the intake side of cylinder 6. The noise is heard around 4 grand at light throttle(10lbs vacuum or so) And you can also hear the sound if you increase the revs and hold them around 4 grand at idle.

Ive been doing a ton of research about lifters and rod, bearing failure and it just seems so confusing. Tomorrow I will probably tear the lifters apart, clean and put them back together thanks to the twin turbo 300zx link about lifters that I found. Ive heard that if its a lifter that all of them should be making a noise which is not the case in my situation. The head has been cleaned and the valves have a 5 angle cut on them. New valve stem seals and factory valves. I used acl standard bearings with assembly lube on the side that touches the crank and rods. This is keeping my from finishing my car so any input would help alot. I mean ive already got my fuel setup in the mail, got the nistune working and this crap is holding me back...

Kinda sounds like a sticky/collapsed lifter to me. I had 2 different times over the years when I was convinced I had turded my motor by spinning a bearing, but it was lifters that had gone south.

I havnt done any research on what spark knock sounds like but my plugs are showing a normal burn since ive been breaking the motor in under partial throttle which is from 14.5-13.5
