Thx for the welcome and I'm looking forward to some interesting discussions...I have a silly question and I'm probably in the wrong forum for the answer but here goes anyways...I'm a perfectionist when it comes to detailing a car and one thing that won't clean properly for me is the engine cover which is shiny gray in colour but it seems to have spots (oil???) on it that won't clean up....is there a good method and cleaner for bringing the cover back to a new condition???

Heres a link that should have an answer.

zerothread/183170 Good luck with that cover though because although mine needs it, I haven't had the time or motivation to attempt a clean.

Just checking in..

I'm just got a White 98 SE w/Manual transmission. It has 144,000miles on it and runs really strong the only things i've done so far are the AE headlights, red clear tails, Apexi WS2 rear section, b&m short shifter, and new clutch. I have the Y-pipe and magnaflow high flow cat waiting to go in(I tried to do it today but the bolts on my cat are rusted stuck)

that's about it.. feel free to pm me.. I don't have any maxima friends yet...

Welcome aboard, everyone!

Nice looking 6th gen, jsmithsole. I'm not a big fan of the front bumper, but the rest looks great. The little things are my favorite changes--the side marker overlays, the glossy paint on the engine cover, etc.

I like the wheels, too (the BBS-style ones...what are they, TSW?)

Thanks MinisterofDOOM. Yeah it's hard to find mods for the 6th gen, we're working hard with lots of different people to make things happen. This is the Redlinemax (RIP) bumper that I helped to develop and test. And yes the overlays make a huge difference and the engine cover is actually CF, not painted, also from RLM.

As for the wheels, they are Enkei LX-M wheels. I always wanted that BBS look without the BBS price! These are actually my third set of wheel on this car, 4 if you include stock...

Thanks for the welcome!!

Hi everyone and Merry Christmas! I have a 2002 I35 and bought a wired FM modulator for it. I am hoping that someone can give me a little advice on how the panel surrounding the factory Bose radio comes off. I can probably go in blindly but I sure would like to hear from someone that has done it or knows how it comes off. I don't see any screws so I am assuming that there are clips somewhere that release the panel or panels, but not being sure, and not finding anything written about it, I am asking here.

Thanks in advance for any assistance you can provide me. Sincerely,

A proud I35 owner, Johnny

Welcome aboard.

We have how-to's on Maximaclub.org or within the NICO Nissan Articles Forum. One of them is a Bose HU removal for a 2k2 Maxima. Should be very similar to the I35 removal process:

Thanks a lot for taking the time to reply.

That seems straightforward enough. My radio does not look like that one though. Do you think all of them are attached the same way, under the vents and behind the shifter trim?

Here is what mine looks like

OK I got the whole nav unit/radio/climate control assembly slid out as one unit, cables still attached. All I need to reach is the antenna, and I have the proper adapters for the Nissan Diversity connector so I am all set there.

My remaining question which I hope someone can assist with is: what is the best place to connect to a switched +12V (red wire)? I have read something about the fuse box but am not clear where that connection would be made. I have also read about using the hot wire from the cigar lighter, or other red wires in the dash. I do not want to splice anything if I don't have to.

Any tips on the best and simplest way to get a +12V switched source? Thanks again everyone. Merry Christmas!!

Just a followup - I did get the whole FM Modulator installed and the dash closed up nicely. It works very well.

Thanks for the assistance.

I noticed yesterday that my nav system won't turn on and raise its screen. You can hear the CD trying to read something, and when I checked the connectors on the back it has 12V power.

I tried to remove those side Phillips screws that hold the nav system to the bracket, but damn those are not budging.

It might be the CD is stuck, it might be a loose connection behind the front panel (which also will not come off and I am mystified as to what is holding it on)

Anybody ever removed a nav system from the I35 / Maxima? Tips on how to get the front panel (that has the buttons) off? How to get those mounting screws out without stripping them? What could be causing it not to operate when it has power?

I sure would appreciate any tips. Thanks in advance.
