I think this list will be pretty short, but this came up on another forum and I got me thinking... These are aside from the other rants (gas mileage, trunk space, rear leg room, etc)...

It doesnt have automatic headlights like most other cars do, especailly in that class/era.... Minor thing, and turning the headlights is like 2nd nature now.....

I also dont like how some things are overly complex, like the ash tray... Fortunately that hasnt broken on me, but I hear its a common thing on the Q... IT does look cool when it folds out, but not so much when its broken...

I dont like how when you close the doors, they make that hollow BLANG sound.. No other car ive seen does this, and every Q ive come in contact with (granted just mine, Fred's and Rex's) does this.....

This is just little rants i can come up with off the top of my head..... The good DEFINITELY outweighs the bad.....

Rear seat room and gas mileage. Otherwise, it's PERFECT.

(Could use another 50 hp, but what car couldn't?) :)

Solid rear axle.

Lack of memory mirrors.

Horrible turn radius.

Inability to buy car WITHOUT bose stereo.

That's about all that comes to mind right now. Aside from it being FWD, but I knew that coming into the game, so I can't really ***** too much about that.

1. #$%@!#$ Bose amps!2. Lots of tire wear.3. No heated seats. (Argh, you people with 94s have them.)4. Lots of brake wear.

Its mostly the Bose amps, which have actually been mostly problem-free for six months after the last set of junkyard takeouts.

Mmmm... Heated seats!!

I really dont think the gas mileage is that much worse than other cars in its class. When I replace my o2s (which I now carry btw, still waiting on a price) I will expect consistenly 16+mpg city... Got around 18-20 on the highway, cruising mostly at 80ish, 200 miles, and no EGR..... :)

i don't like that i haven't been able to maintain it properly, due to having no job for a while, but now i have a job so i will be putting in a very large parts order in a few weeks.

i also don't like that my headlights are not adjustable. damn adjuster screws must be busted, they turn easily and do nothing. my headlights are aimed pretty low and one is aimed a little too far to the right. i may take my headlights apart to see if i can do anything about it.

Funny but my boss has a MB S500. He slammed the door on my M and said why does that sound like a hollow can? So I went and slammed his door and said 30,000 dollars thats why. But actually my friends Lexus IS slams like a Mercedes...makes me wonder. Insulation?

I'll give the Q some slack about it's shortcomings because of when the car came out, that's when they started implementing new things. Back in the early 90s, cup holders weren’t the standard. Now a car without cup holders is unheard of. Yes, it does drive me crazy that there's no cup holders. I feel that the transmission doesn't make the best gear choices in city driving. It would be up in second when it should be in first and leaves the car a little dead in certain situations. A steptronic would be nice, but again, they didn't have that back then. OEM wheel size too small. They should have come out of the factory with 16" wheels of the bat. You shouldn’t have to turn the mirror knob to get them to go down when in reverse. If you leave it turned to L, then you shouldn't have to turn the knob to have that feature work. Split fold down rear seat. No car in this class seems to have one. Yea, you guys are right. The doors do sound a little cheap when you close them. I don't remember them sounding like that when new, but they sure sound cheap now.

As far as people complaining about the Bose system, I don't get it. I think it's the best OEM system that I've heard in any car, old or new, even compared to other OEM Bose systems in other cars. My friend has a Bose in his Acura TL and mine blows it away.

One touch close for all glass, including sunroof. would be a biggie for me. Does that sound just damn "lazy" ? About the "tinny" sound of the doors closing, my 97 Q's front doors sound that way but the rear doors sound very nice indeed... Split fold down rear would be nice, especially since the Q's trunk is not the most cavernous in it's class...

btw, I'm really enjoying this board... :-)

i would love folding rear seats, too bad the 90-96 (don't know about 97) has the fuel tank right behind the seats.

FWIW, I like this placement - it is probably the safest place for a gas tank in the event of an accident. But I agree ... it does prevent folding rear seats.

I totally agree that the dislikes are easily outweighed by the likes! That is why I have owned an Infiniti of some sort since 1991. But there are a few things that could have been done better. Here are a few - I am sure that I will think of more soon!

On my 1991 and 1995 Q:

1. Way better brakes were needed on the original design (larger rotors for example).

2. Needed more trunk space. If the cars had been six inches longer in the rear (all going into the trunk), the trunk space would be great. Combined with the short opening space (because of sloped rear window), it made for an awkward fit (my wife's Acura has more trunk room!) I also think that the side view would have better balanced looking.

3. "Locking" cruise control button. It was irritating to have to press the button each time the car was started up to engage the cruise control functionality.

4. "Locking" rear view mirror dimmer. I do not "dim" my rear view mirror on any car that I drive. On my 1995 Q, the car would always select the "Auto" position every time the car was started. I learned to automatically reach up and turn this off every time I got into the car, but it was still irritating. A simple rocker switch selecting the two positions would have been simpler (and cheaper too!)

On my 2003 M45:

1. The seat positioner controls are on the side of the seat rather than on the door like the older Q45s. Terrible location! I have to find them by groping my hand past the arm-rest on the door and it is a royal pain. Frequently, my hand brushes on the lumbar adjustment rather than the seat tilt and I am always fiddling with it when I should not have to.

2. Rear leg room is minimal.

I am sure that I will think of more soon!

Poor design of cup holders, faded upholstery in rear window and pillars, costly struts, no auto-off headlights, cruise button on/off switch, CC display that reads:CRU-ISE

Otherwise a very solid car and ahead of its time with several features. (valves, cd/cassette, style)

It's been said before but, real cupholders would be nice.

The center console feels cheap to me. It just doesn't feel solid and substantial.

My mirror switch stays on auto, is that something added for the 94-96's? I like the heated seats too. :) I wasn't aware they didn't come on the earlier Q's.

Little things you DONT like about your Infiniti......

(1.)Tiny Trunk(2.)Not as durable or well engineered as my 14 year old base model Honda Civic (The Civic-except for alternator, starter and original exhaust is still running perfectly on original parts).

    1. no rear ac vents
1. The JDM G50 (President) had the center console mounted rear air vents in the LWB versions. I believe the SWB cars had them as well but I'm not 100% sure. Many of the JDM G50's also had cornering lamps. Could it be JDM parts swap time...:oy:
1. The US spec LS 400 from the beginning had the rear air vents, but that is about all they had over the US market G50. Some of the original LS 400's had a power telescoping but a manual tilting steering column or vise versa.
1. So on the 90-96 Q45, other than the lack of rear air vents, sound of doors when closed, no auto headlamps, no cornering lamps, no full adjustment front passenger seat with power lumbar, smallish brakes, and the inability to do a sub 14 second 1/4 mile due in part to the lack of low rpm torque, that was about it. But hey, with the right amount of cash, most of that can be addressed.
Danisiti still #1...:D

'94 Q.

Placement of the e-brake foot lever. I'm always banging my shin into it.Placement of the cruise control on/off switch. I'm tempted to rewire the disengage switch on the steering wheel as the on/off switch.Suspension components are almost identical to the 300ZX yet they are not interchangable. And the standard complaints about the Bose (Blows) system and the brakes.

I always thought my Q had a good horn.. Not wimpy but weird sounding... I wanna get one of those BIG CAR sounding horns like whats on a cadililac!!

Cup holders arent a big deal for me, since I dont allow drinks in my car...

All i care about for trunk space is that I can put my golf clubs in it..... Surprisingly enough, i have gotten 4 golf bags in there (it was tight and a couple were smashed)... Problem is when clubs are in there, theres no room for anyhting else.....

I thikn the brakes are decent enough. Mine stop very quick (fast reacting).....

I think a better on board diagnostics would be good.. On the cadillac models, you could view every measureable parameter by the ECU right on the dash board... That would be great!!

I would sacrifice folding seats for the fuel tank where it is.. Right over the back tires so you get all that weight right over the tires.....

The vents in the rear are pitiful.. It even looks like theres a place for them built right into the console!!!

THey could have taken about 6in off that rear shelf to add to seat room and possibly a bit more trunk space.....

I also dont like the mirror tilt down thing, where you gotta move the lever.. I hardly use this feature......

No Grille. Exhaust that rots under the heat shield hold down clamps. Bad resistor in Bose amps. And need I mention........ CLIMATE CONTROL DISPLAY. (Had mine fixed by Jerry and it's intermittent now) Silicone filled bushings....and it needs a paddle type cruise control lever. -Squeefoo
