All the crap crammed under the plenum! The only place that the knock sensors could be less accessible are inside the block. Seriously -- what jackass decided that they should go deep in the valley, under the water bypass? Also the fuel hoses attach to the rails and regulator deep in the V -- inaccessible without pulling the plenum. In contrast on my LX450 the fuel lines connect on both sides to hard tubes running under the plenum. Thus, you can reach the hose connections without pulling everthing loose. Just a lazy design -- much of it could have been made more servicable with any amount of thought.

Inside, a lack of usable cupholders have resulted in capret cleanings and a ruined cell phone (Starbucks kills phone mics). If I had been a sucker and paid $49K I would have been even more disappointed. Boring dash design -- it could not be more bland -- save for the clock. The glove box is insufficient.

Over time, perhaps its most endearing design quality is its overall low key look. The new cars certainly take its style out of the $50K car category both in looks and power. But, it does not look as dated as most late 1980's designs.

Im my 98 I30 I don't like that the trunk opener works while the car is in gear. Things in my left pocket open the trunk while the car is moving then I have to stop and lock it back.

. . . . one other thing -- the automatic transmission. It lags on downshifts and robs power. Its OK as far as 1980's-1990's automatics go. If my car had a manual 5 or 6 speed I would never let it go. That would be awesome! My Q is the only car that I have ever owned as my primary car with an automatic, and it will probably be my last. Nothing like slamming down a gear to pass some one with instant locked-mecahnical response.

Diamond, all you ever do is complain about your POS J30. Do us all a favor and sell it. I hear Kias are great cars. How about a Neon? Cavaliers are fantastic. Ford Contour? Now there's the car for you. And those Pontiacs with all that crap plastic stuff would really make you happy.

Why did you buy such a POS in the first place?

I think we need to take a ride in my car in April when I am in town. It takes a very slight time to downshift, but the power is there until redline afterwards.

I dont personally own an infiniti, but i don't like their depreciation. Being once a 50k car, why can you pick one up very, very cheaply now?

Here's a tip for you: Don't buy new. Best bang for your buck in the automotive world. That is unless you stumble across a POS like Diamond somehow did.

I daresay that now the G35 has made the mark prominent, resale values will hold.

10-14 years can do a lot to a car value. Depreciation is maximized until 20 years, then decreases if there is any interest in the model.

Sorry, Diamond. I take it back. Keep hanging in and sharing your insights with the mod, aftermarket crowd.

Hope you can get out for a spin soon.

Diamond,

We're glad you're here man - You've been around for a LONG time, and have always given the J30 owners hope (not many heavily-modded J's out there).

I'm proud that NICO is a source of enjoyment for you, and if there's ever anything you need, let me know. You are appreciated here, regardless of how you're feeling or what you contribute. :)

Mike, thanks for retracting your ill-advised statements. Very out-of-character for you [no sarcasm].

I don't think you mean shingles (which would be odd) so much as you mean a product like Grace Ice Guard, an underlayment below the shingling sometimes. Some people use it instead of dynamat as a sound deadener in mobile audio applications.

Dust N Bones wrote:I can't stand how the heated seats only work if you're sitting in them. That defeats the whole purpose because I still have to sit in a freezing cold seat. No other manufacturers heated seats work that way.

And I agree that the air conditioned seats like on the Lincoln Navigator would be great.

I find that odd, the seats in my J will warm w/o anyone sitting in them. I'll turn on my passenger warmer before I pick someone up, and it warms up fine.

And are Js the only Infiniti that got cup holders?

one thing that annoys me with the q is the poor water management system! if you get into car while it is raining or has recently rained,it all comes spilling off the roof into your lap! my g20 had a rubber channel built into the door frame opening to catch this, but not the q?my wife thinks it is strange that i am complaining about my q,being how much she knows i am slightly possesive over it,even after having driven it over 100,000 miles!I reassured her, that if it had to be replaced, the only new car that captures my attention as much as my q is the audi a8,and if they made a new 94-96q today, that is what would replace my current q!there are faster, better handling new cars out there today, but NONE seem to have that " something" that a g50 series q posesses!
