Core 2s are the most inefficient processor in history. This makes them great for heating rooms, frying eggs, and stress testing cooling systems.
Joking aside, that's a very usable free computer. Media or streaming seems like a good use.
Joking not aside, though, I'm dead serious any that first paragraph. My brother has a Core 2 Duo laptop and my parents a Core 2 Duo desktop. The laptop becomes genuinely painful to hold on your lap due to heat, and sucks down battery at a rate so comical you'd think your battery was shot. ("Portable" and "mobile" ate not universally interchangeable here

). Meanwhile, the desktop heats the small bedroom it resides in far more effectively than the home's HVAC system (again... no joking). Both machines rival F35s in STOVL mode when it comes to noise (okay, one joke).
So:
Media PC, yes. But make sure you keep it in a very well ventilated area but also somewhere the fan noise won't be to intrusive.
