One of my jobs from last week was to to replace this menu board display, and they gave me the old computer from it.

Media computer anyone? It's only a core-2 duo mobile-ITX, so I can't really do much with it, and it only takes some really slow RAM, so yeah.

Sounds like a media computer to me.

Core 2s are the most inefficient processor in history. This makes them great for heating rooms, frying eggs, and stress testing cooling systems.

Joking aside, that's a very usable free computer. Media or streaming seems like a good use.

Joking not aside, though, I'm dead serious any that first paragraph. My brother has a Core 2 Duo laptop and my parents a Core 2 Duo desktop. The laptop becomes genuinely painful to hold on your lap due to heat, and sucks down battery at a rate so comical you'd think your battery was shot. ("Portable" and "mobile" ate not universally interchangeable here :chuckle: ). Meanwhile, the desktop heats the small bedroom it resides in far more effectively than the home's HVAC system (again... no joking). Both machines rival F35s in STOVL mode when it comes to noise (okay, one joke).

So:
Media PC, yes. But make sure you keep it in a very well ventilated area but also somewhere the fan noise won't be to intrusive.

Ugh, it's got pc2-800 memory. And only 1GB of it, too. Welp, it's getting some upgrades before it gets into the serious media stuff. New fans, maybe a new heatsink, 4GB memory (all it will take) and if I can afford it, a new HD. The problem is that 2.5" drives are still kinda expensive...

For some reason, I always tend to have more 2.5'' drives than 3.5'' drives laying around. I've never PURCHASED one. Probably because everyone gives me their old broken laptops and the HDD is generally the only salvageable part. If I had a spare I'd send it your way.

Well, I'm posting on it now.

I put Mythbunutu on it and found out through cpuinfo that it has a Celeron(R) Dual-Core CPU T3500 @ 2.10GHz...
It says I can swap out for the penryn core-2-duo if I get a more efficient heat sink, think it's worth it?

Probably worth it. I don't really know a lot about Intel chips from that era other than they tended to run really hot. However, a quick google shows that the Celeron that shares a socket with Penryn Core 2 Duos has the same TDP as the much fancier-featured Core 2, so you might as well upgrade. Seems odd a heatsink upgrade is recommended when both have a 35W TDP. I suspect you're probably fine keeping the same heatsink and upgrading anyway.

Well I know I kinda lurk around here every once and a while but I'm getting something to replace my Maxipad. I put a deposit down until the wire transfer goes through from my savings account.

I'm getting a 2+2 Z32. 78K on the clock. :) Updates will come soon. I'm stoked!

sure. i accept payment in forms of crashing couch (not casting couch, you sick bastard), beer, and memphis style bbq.

gonna grab a new angle grinder this weekend, along with new wire (all i have is flux-core atm), and i'll need a face shield for lying underneath the datsun while grinding. and propane for my garage heater. and beer. lots of beer. it's going to be a fun weekend.

Funny, I was just moving my mig setup around the garage yesterday. I love welding stuff. I love welding stuff and drinking Yuengling Light even more. Welding stuff, with Yuengling Light AND Music? Try and stop me.

Also, the pee colored snow bank outside my shop is finally melted...lol.

all of that sounds a lot like how everything in my garage happens. except the melted yellow snow. mine is still there, except i threw a shovel full of white snow over it.

Bring it down here, Tita. I've got a garage with a kerosene heater and it's not as snowy down here. I also have an angle grinder and all those things you said.

All that being said, this is by far the coldest 31 degrees I've ever experienced this is almost as bad as below 0 in Chicago was.

Bish, I did a winter in Chicago. I know cold. This is just mildly uncomfortable on the scale of 1 to deep freeze. But that's not how TN usually is.
