Also, I spoke too soon. They're saying Wednesday is gonna be -11 with a 15mph wind.

Though Honda owners might require a conversion factor from "gerbilthrust".

That was last night. There's about an inch and a half of solid ice on the ground here. Not snow, ice. I had to go to mygirlfriend's mom's house to get something, so I took the 4 wheeler because my truck wouldn't get traction on my gravel driveway, because the ice is so damn thick. Gravel. GRAVEL. Ice so thick gravel doesn't even stick through. I've never in TN.

We had around 8" of snow and it's way too damn cold in my basement. The sump hasn't frozen yet, however, so something something hope for the future I guess. The camel crickets that live with me have all disappeared though.

Some enterprising young foreigners with shovels came though already, and they were trying out an old scam where they shovel your walkway first, and then try to make you feel guilty so you make a "donation" to the indian givers with shovels fund. I know it's kinda racist, but I don't think there's another term more appropriate for it.

We got another 4 inches overnight. The lack of kids looking to make money shoveling around here is disappointing. I ended up clearing both mine and my elderly neighbors sidewalks/decks/driveways...again.

You guys can come and shovel the weekly foot that seems to be scheduled here every Sunday. My yard and driveway are lined with huge piles that do a fantastic job of collecting snow like a ditch collects water in a flood.

Sunday was about 16". Yesterday was a couple of inches. Today its only snowing 3-5 inches. We get cut a break tomorrow before another 3-5 show up on Thursday.

I'm going to the beach so much this year....

ray, don't forget the awesome game we get to play called "turn, blindly, onto the cross street without getting creamed".

seriously, street intersections are scary up here.

Ray, I like snow but i'm perfectly content with the amount we get here. We ended up with 12" of snow here. I was absolutely shocked, because our typical forecast goes something like "Lexington will get 6-10" of snow tonight", then we wend up with maybe 1/2-1" of snow... We're supposed to get another 4" of snow tomorrow night and then get hit again this weekend. Oh and it isn't supposed to get over 14 degrees for the rest of the week, so it's not likely that any of it will melt either. Good times.

On the plus side, I got entire day paid off yesterday. Oh and the Pathfinder kicks a** in the snow. The wife drove it to Shelbyville to work and made it just fine, even though it extended her commute from just over an hour to 2 hours thanks to the roads being so bad. She said she didn't scare her a single time though.

I made the trek to work this morning on mostly unplowed roads and didn't have a single problem either. I flipped off the traction control and had a little fun in the parking lot here at work too.

On the other hand, I'm glad I didn't have to leave the house yesterday because our Kia is pretty much useless in the snow. It gets stuck in the driveway even with only an inch or two on the ground. Seriously.

Our local TV news stations keep on predicting snowmagedden and a snowpacalypse here every week, only to have us get a small fraction of the snow you're actually getting, and mostly powder at that. If the weather babes down here weren't so good looking, I'd more annoyed at them.

Yeah, they were predicting snow for us this time around, but we didn't get any. Just ice. And a ton of it. The ice on my windshield was almost 3" thick. Not even exaggerating.

I still giggle at the freakouts in the northeast over snow. I was watching the news one night, and the anchor was talking about how the streets were empty, abandoned in anticipation of the huge snow. They showed a clip of one of these visibly empty streets. Well, empty except for THE SNOWPLOW PUSHING SNOW SO SPARSE YOU COULD STILL SEE ASPHALT THROUGH IT. I don't even know how to process that.

Good Lord, if it snowed 4 feet overnight tonight, nobody in the northwest would even bat an eye! We'd all just go to work as normal. No closures, no s***. Look: snow. Now STFU and get back to everyday life. They don't even plow OR salt the roads here. It just gets packed into a layer of ice with a coating of snow for traction. Nobody dies. Hell, barely anybody even crashes. Nobody gives a s***. Nothing changes, except that everyone drives a little more slowly and I drive a little more sideways.

And this isn't an insult to people living in the northeast. It's an insult to the TV news morons making a simple snowstorm into "NEWS!!!!" GTFO of here with that bullcrap.

I mean...this crap happens EVERY SINGLE WINTER. EVERYONE acts like nobody has ever heard of, seen, or--heaven forbid!!!--driven in snow in all of human history. WHAT EVER SHALL WE DO WITH THIS WHITE POWDERY STUFF!? OH THE HUMANITY!!!!!!

It's so ridiculous it's impossible to express.

You give me 2 feet of snow overnight and I'll give you the most entertaining ride in a Lincoln you've ever had in your life.

Oh, quit being a reverse-drama queen.

You forget that the midatlantic and northeast doesn't necessarily harbor locals only like the northwest does. We have loads of transplants from places that don't see snow regularly fu*king things up for the rest of us. The true New Englanders know what's up, but so many down here are truly, genuinely surprised to see the white stuff en mass. Most will simply not drive when it falls, nor will they learn how to drive in it because they will be gone to somewhere warm where they don't have to deal with it anymore after a few years.

i have to double check my added protection plan. it lasts 7 years, and the way it was described, should cover rock chips/scrapes, curb rash on wheels, and tears in the leather. if it does in deed cover the chips, i'll have the dealer repair it in the spring, then look into clear bra.

Aw man! That sucks.
Another great reason to have a winter beater though.
I've stopped caring about those chips and stupid nicks in the front bumper from passing the salt trucks.

it's a high 20k vehicle that i bought to drive, not park. if the weather sucks i drive the exploder, otherwise i'm boosting. i knew it was inevitable, but just >1k miles and 1.5 months of ownership in, i hoped the paint would've been a bit more durable.
