My Five Hundred was from up north and while it was not really bad, there have been a few things that have made me cringe when i've worked on it. I've pretty much fixed any sights of rust issues, or even beginnings of it since i've had it though.

I put it up in the air last year, hit everything I could find that needed attention with a sanding and polishing discs real well(or wire brush where needed), hit it with naval jelly, then primed and painted everything with several coats of black epoxy paint. After everything dried I went over it with spray on bedliner or lots of rubberized undercoating depending on where it was.

BTW - This stuff kicks a** if you need to repaint anything under the car or under the hood that sees a fair amount of abuse.

Rusty cars suck, man. Impact guns probably help a lot.

I've never added any additional undercoating to a car, but it really couldn't hurt. Even though I used the t/a for a winter or two, the underside is still damned decent. The body still has little pockets here and there that I was going to deal with this winter, but that isn't happening. Prep work is easy enough, I could tackle it in a weeks time, but the painting costs money, dammit. Theres always something more important. And now the dog has a fractured tooth or some s*** like that.

Did yyou make your reservation yet? I got a 5:15 when I made a reservation on Wednesday afternoon. Its okay with me since most menus are specifically set to not overload the kitchen and keep them out of the weeds to provide a good customer experience. At least at 5:15 its just after the doors open and the food won't have been held for an hour or two before we even sit down.

I've added additional undercoating to every car i've had. I've never crawled under a car and thought there was enough there from the factory, especially living here in KY. I'm paranoid about rust though, so i'd rather have the car well protected so I don't have to deal with rust issues later on.

We made reservations two years ago for a really nice Japanese Hibachi restaurant here and still had to wait two hours after we got there to be seated. Ever since then we've always just went somewhere and waited. We'll probably just go hit Olive Garden or something like that anyways.

That's good stuff right there. Works very well to cover bare metal after you remove all the rust. Rust killed my 78 Monte, ate the frame right in half over the real axle. I miss that car...

My Jeep CJ7 had a little rust in the tub when I got it, so I immediately ripped out the interior and sandblasted the whole tub then went through the same steps with it. Like I said, I HATE rust. I will not tolerate it. I cannot stand seeing a car die from rust :frown:

My Subie has the beginnings of the typical quart panel rust (from the inside out like 90's Accords/Civics get). I found out it's because both manufacturers decided instead of welding that interior section together they just use some seam sealant that ends up trapping moisure inside the QP (on the Subie there's also a sunroof drain tube that can get disconnected, luckily mine wasn't). I had the panels repaired once (poorly by a shop) that supposedly cut out parts and welded patches but I think they didn't do anything at all. Only right way to do it is get fresh panels and cut to size/weld them in. I'm not keeping this car much longer so I'm not going to invest in that. I've seen far worse Subie rot than this one (just a quarter size bubbling on one side and the other side hasn't done anything yet) but it's still depressing.

Despite having lived most of my car-owning life in a state that uses road salt liberally, I have never suffered from rust problems on my cars. Even the Maxima had no problems, and third-gens were notorious for rear quarterpanel rust and fuel filler neck rust.

My dad's Ram recently has the non-galvanized, non-plated exhaust rust apart pretty badly, but that's the first sign of rust I've ever seen on any of our cars.

EDIT:
I take that back. There's a goofy harness bracket under the hood of the LS that is rusted, and pretty much rusts on EVERY LS. Even worse is it can take the harness junction that mounts to it out with it.

Hooray. I finally got Windows 8.1 bootloader and grub to stop fighting and breaking each-other!

I've never seen "hooray" and "windows 8" together in a sentence before.

Well, to be fair, it was in the context of "hooray my alternative to Windows 8 is working correctly again."

But yeah.

I will just add that from a simple user interface standpoint (not even talking configuration) I am not a fan of windows 8.1 so far. Lots of s*** that just doesn't make sense at all. Looks nice though. That's about it.

Well, I've been working for Microsoft for the last few days here, and the people who work there don't seem to have much of a sense of humor about 8.1. They had a giant version of the "Surface" on display in the waiting room and it wouldn't work for some reason, so I cracked an obvious joke and everyone just stared at me... lol!

I don't mind Win 8, but I still prefer 7 by far. The only reason I don't mind it is because we have it on the wife's touchscreen Lenovo Yoga and it's really useful on it. Without a touchscreen it's junk.

HI BECKY!

I honestly don't care much anymore. I don't use a PC at home much anymore unless it's for designing a graphic or working on a website anyways.

Good morning. Another day, another snow storm. This one was an inch or two of snow covering a layer of ice. And we have another storm coming in Tuesday! I had to both cry and chuckle. My neighbor's tin pyramid style garage roof finally emptied its snow from the last two storms on the side that faces my driveway a few minutes ago, burying my 4 runner. No damage. Sounded like a freight train. Looks like some more shovellin'.....

The plow wouldn't do the top half of the street this last storm because the Hispanic people who live right at the mid-point own 15 cars and have them all parked on the street on either side. We had to wait two days for a scoop plow to come by.

Morning fellas!

Had just about a foot over the last storm on Saturday. (are they really still naming all of these stupid storms?) Went skiing Sunday- was outstanding. Hip deep in places- in New England! Unheard of.

What'd ya'll do for Valentines Day? I decorated the house, updated the photo album, and decided that cooking in was for the birds and took us out to an outstanding steak dinner at a local farm restaurant.

Mornin' Gents.

We got a couple of light dustings of snow, but that was it. It's supposed to be 60 tomorrow, so I think i'll be driving the Miata some again this week.

We didn't do much for Valentines Day. The kid stayed with a friend of ours and we just went out to eat at Chili's, then went shopping. After that we just came home and watched a movie. Nothing too exciting, but it was really nice to have a day alone without the kid.

Almost 3 years. She just turned 4 last month and we'll probably hold off another year or so before we have another.

Well, my partners Win8 lappy took a dirt nap, and has been replaced with one running 8.1. OMG, this thing is annoying! If I were made Emperor, I'd have to impose the nine kinship exterminations on everyone responsible for this abomination.

It's 55 here, but it was around 30 when I left this morning. I am trying to decide if it's top down time for the Miata or not for the ride home. It's so nice, but I worry doing between 65-70 going home may not be.

Wacky weather here too. We just 2 more inches of snow early this morning. Now it's 50 and sunny. Go figure.
