I just asked for an invite, we shall see... I have to be downtown Monday, so maybe they will have a map there.

Funny, I just learned that not only do they pull the codes here, but they will fail you if you have recently "cleared the fault log". I am looking fwd to moving up the BFE PA. Give me enough acreage to shoot on my own property and keep people as far away as possible.
That's how it was back in Utah. There are THREE counties in the whole state that do emissions testing (all 3 are together in the salt-lake area). I lived in the middle one. If you had a recently cleared fault, they would still fail you. I had an intermittent EVAP code on my Ranger years ago that I'd clear and it'd randomly come back. Anyway I always managed to get lucky come inspection time. If you clear the code and drive long enough without the code reappearing, it eventually gets cleared from the list of "pending" codes and doesn't show up at all on a scan. Eventually I just put tape over the CEL in that truck and called it a day.

I have an EGR code on the LS8 right now, and registration is due for renewal this month. I was afraid I'd have to spend $400 replacing parts to get it to pass. Not anymore! I'll probably cap the EGR and call it good.

The other stupid thing about Utah is that they don't allow exhaust cutouts. I wanted some cutouts right before the cats on the Q BAD, but could never do it. Maybe I'll put some side-dumps on the LS8 for fun. I can switch to them when slow pedestrians are ambling across the road.

California is gonna implement the Star program next year.
I think they designate which station you're supposed to go to. And they might hook up cameras and stuff to em. :(
Worst comes to worst, I swap to stock and get it smogged, then swap back.
Ugh.

Your state is run by ***holes and idiots.

Think of all the USEFUL, MEANINGFUL, IMPORTANT things they could be achieving if they weren't wasting their time chasing down smelly cars that don't conform to textbook specs.

Morning fellas.

Got stuck with a V6 mustang instead of the GT because the rental car company sucked balls. Not an awful car, but definitely not a GT.

I ended up with a bright a** lime green convertible. At least it was a convertible. Though, I do have to say that at 80mph, it wasn't a very loud cabin with the top down. Was pretty damned decent. One thing that sucked though- they gave me a car with a "my key" which limited the radio volume and disabeled my use of the fun buttons like traction control.

What I didn't mention earlier is that they didn't actually have a Mustang at the time of my arrival. I ended up with a Charger (blah) and had to go back the next day for the mustang!

Moral of the story- it doesn't matter if the rental car company charges less, its always worth it to pay the brand name price. I won't be straying from my go-to of Avis again.

I find it infuriating that this is how our state tries to make money, when all the officials really need to do is shoot themselves in the head and let the state inherit their paychecks. The kids in the city I work in love math. MATH! For Pete's sake, MATH is their favorite subject! When everyone I grew up with hated it, kids here are enjoying it and what do the teachers get? Wage cuts and less hours, but more workloads. These teachers need to spread their legacy of making math fun so that our future gets a brighter one. I hate how corrupt, inept, and greedy all of our gov't have become, state and national.

morning Ben.

The alternator adjustment block/bolt combo came flying out of the miata this morning. Is it okay to drive without it? The belt squeals something awful.

Mornin' Ben! How's it goin?

I hate dealing with car dealerships with a passion. I guess it's better than getting nothing done at all, but i've been waiting to get the Five Hundred's new bumper installed and painted for like a month now...

Hi Ray! Things are good here, aside from the car fiasco.

Negative on the Scooby. I wanted it, but we just couldn't come to an agreement on it, or anything else for that matter. The wife and I decided that it was more cost effective at this point to keep the 500 and live with it. It seems to be fine now and it has an 18k/18mo powertrain warranty on it, so we'll drive it for 2-3 years and trade it in. It's a good car, it's just not as good as I had hoped to get for my money.

I had hoped for a better solution, considering the circumstances, but they had the upper hand in the situation. The only way we would've been able to come out ahead is to make things ugly. In the end, the risk didn't seem to be worth it. Learn from your mistakes on move on right?

You can keep the plates if you're military. Ironically, if you're military you can't keep your freedom.

Thats a huge bummer man. What happened that the 500 needed a bumper?

thats pretty 'effin sweet. I got my lady badass pans and a bunch of quality kitchen small wares that she doesn't have. I should probably do something thoughtful/more loving, too. I mean, she likes to cook, but its almost like buying a vacuum cleaner.

The bumper was part of the agreement when I bought the vehicle. It was cracked and damaged, so I made them put in writing that they would put a new one on it. No wrecks according to Carfax though and it's pretty minor damage. Looks like someone just backed into something.

The ring is sort of a late 5th anniversary present anyways. I wanted to get her a new wedding ring for our anniversary this year and we had so many expenses all at once, that we decided we shouldn't spend the extra money. Since we have recovered from that, I decided I should get her something nice for Christmas

Yeah i'd do something a little thoughtful to go along with it, even if it's something simple. Go hit Kohl's if you have one around you and grab some jewelry. They have some pretty reasonably priced stuff - get a necklace or some earrings that look nice.

Good job on getting them to fix existing damage! Jewlery is nice, and I really like your idea of a new wedding ring. It was always my guess that the first ring I buy will be terribly unimpressive, but that every 5 years or so, she get a better one as time goes on. Thinking of- ever see that Family Guy silhoutte "diamonds commercial" where he pulls out a ring and she goes down like shes going to blow him and the slogan is, "diamonds. she'll pretty much have to."

I was thinking of making the start of a photo scrap book for a meaningful gift. Nothing too fancy (I did that once before and it was a metric ton of work that wasn't all that necessary) but just some place to put physical photos in this digital age. Then it could become something we both add to and maintain.
