That WAS fun! Also, I hate to break it to Skrillex, but: http://www.technipages.com/tech-myth-bl ... oblem.html

If Link had just quested for a new ZIF connector, the kingdom would be saved.

Going good.
Put in an application to transfer from my community college to a larger university.
Went to Cars & Coffee, saw some neat cars. Now I'm studying for my final exams. So boring.

Sup with you?

Nice.
What sort of welder did you buy? I've been wanting a welder for a while, but I'm not sure what to buy.

Saw a really nice 280z at Cars and Coffee today.

it's a hobart (140, iirc). got it brand new for $500. mig, plugs into regular 110 household outlets, gas ready, can do up to 1/4". it's pretty awesome. i was scouring craigslist for the longest, but everyone was selling their s*** for premium bucks (close to 1k for 1970's rusty crap), no gas at all.

I've seen a few decent deals pop-up on craigslist once in a while, but never had the money for em.

best part is that none of the money came out of my pocket. we used some of the cash we made off the sentra that we're parting out. we also picked up a cart for the welder, a helmet, 2 more floor jacks, and a drill press. still got about half the car to finish parting out, too.

Can't go wrong with Hobart.

a 110 Mig with gas setup is all most of us will ever need. I suggest buying a oxy/ace torch setup as well. Great for cutting, braising and soldering.

Have you guys ever used muggy weld? http://www.muggyweld.com/?view=videos Check out those videos. You can attach dissimilar metals like brass to aluminum or aluminum to steel.

Is there any reason why you would get an oxy/ace torch over an oxy/gas torch? At my work we do TONS of welding (we buy MIG wire by the pallette), but we use oxy/propane torch, I like the idea of propane better because it's a lot safer than acetelyne..

I say acetylene because it's what I'm familiar with, but propane is an excellent gas.

Here's some good reading.

FACT :
BTU's of Acetylene is approximately 1470 btu's per cubic foot.
BTU's of Propane is approximately 2498 btu's per cubic foot.
So when they say propane gives off less heat it is not entirely correct ( plain wrong actually ). In the welding industry the vast majority of preheating is done with Oxygen / Propane . This is a fact . They don't do it just because it's cheaper but because the available heat from propane is much higher.
i just got learned'd. that was a good read

I like Propane because it's cheaper and a lot safer to deal with.. Acetelyne is nasty stuff, propane is much safer!
