Damn it the signals are still not working.

When i was touching the contacts, I was touching the ones that would be touched when the Hazard lights are on the "On" position.
When it's on the "Off" position it doesn't let the signals work.
I guess I'll try replacing the switch and see if it works.
Curse you electricals!

And Lou, you said you've got a laptop and I believe at one point you mentioned it was a lenovo. Mind confirming brand and maybe the model number? And your opinion on it?

My current lappy?

I have a Lenovo T500. Bought it 2 years ago from Lenovo through the EPP (Chubb has a deal with them). I love it. Computer is rock solid, and I've had 0 issues with it, outside of the small ding I put in the LCD from throwing something and hitting it. Runs fast (I have a core2duo at 2.6ghz I think, with a radeon 3450, 4GB ram) and never gives me an issue. Wireless card is solid. Screen is a TN panel I believe so it's not the greatest, but adequate and bright enough to use outside if needed.

Interesting. I'm actually looking at this:

http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Lenovo+-+Id ... Id=1403434

Though at this point, I'm trying to figure out what the difference is between the V560 at BB and the Z560 at newegg...

Adam, I have no idea.

The V series was more geared as the "business" Ideapad (though why not just get a Thinkpad for a "business"), but from a spec point of view, I don't see any difference.

The V would probably be the better purchase in my opinion.

What do you need a solid state drive for anyway? Do you travel that much?

What I'm impressed with about that OCZ drive is that it is cheaper in 3.5" form factor than in 2.5". I'm sure both drives have identical guts, so I chuckle at the price premium for mobility...

It's possible it's simply an age issue, since they no longer manufacture the others any longer. But It might be just that little bit different enough inside...

Nah, they make both. In fact, both are less than 6 months old, though the 3.5" version is newer. My guess is that manufacturing costs have come down slightly, and they don't feel yet like cutting into their profit margins. For the time, SSDs are still probably more desirable to most people in the mobile space. But even in the desktop-world, you can fit two 2.5" SSDs into the space that a 3.5" HDD normally occupies. Hence, they're charging you for that ability.

Then why not just make a raid array in your desktop? DO IT!

Trim isn't supported across arrays. That's why I dropped my array.

naahhh too much crap can go wrong with the RAID arrays, with how much i reformat etc, i just wasnt pleased with the performance increase offered from normal 7200rpm drives in raid for the hassle it took to set them up and maintain them.

this is a quick easy fix. at a decent price too. i have plenty of empty HDD space in external and internal, no capacity hit will be had, i will simply add this drive to my rig.

I forget who I was listening to, but I heard a podcast about this holiday season and tech prices, and how they're going to be dropping drastically as to move inventory.

you can see some of the effects already - you can get 4GB of DDR3 RAM for like $70, or as low as $50ish with MIR's, SSD's are under $100 for normal sizes, etc.

TRIM is a tech that does garbage cleanup on an SSD - consider it "defragging" for the SSD world. You can't do that across an array, and as such, you could be heading down a road where your SSD might die earlier than it normally would.
