Hey Doc, sorry off topic.

How did the repair of your car end up? Did they do a good job?

Nice job doc. What are you using to dress it up a bit? at the moment Ive still got all the bquiet exposed and I cant fit any of the trim carpeted pieces back in cuz the enclosure is so ginormous.

Haven't decided yet.. I'm definately using the stock carpeting, but we may be redoin the entire trunk carpeting in black suede...

sweet. Im waiting to see for sure. mine looks like crap at the moment. Also, I'm gettin a little sick of EVERYBODY having the same type r's I do, even if it's cuz theyre so great. So I might be switching to rockford fosgates soon. Question, I know you said the power subs need a ported or vented box, but would the punch series do fine with a sealed? Im thinking of building a box somewhat similar to the double enclosure listed on ebay for the a/c, only I'd prefer to put two 12"s instead of two 10"s. It looks like all I can fit is a sealed enclosure, so I figured you of all people would know here. How would t1's sound, given I have a hi powered amp?

Honestly, I think you'd be going backwards going from the Type R Alpines to the 2 x 12" P3's. My custom installer has two 12" P3's in a ported box being powered by a Rockford 15001-bd amp... he's got about 600 watts RMS going to them, and he's banging the hell out of them, they are loud, but SQ is not perfect and they heat up a bit due to all of that power going to them.

Again, the T1's don't want a selaed box and will sound like *** in them.

If you have to go with a sealed box, I would run with the JL audio 12" W6's!

Ok, more updated pics of the install process... today, I finished running all the wires, and dynamatting the rear quarter panel area and tire wells....

Vballer was right, after dynamatting that area, the reduced road noise is remarkable... your stereo really does sound better when your car has sound deadener... I recommend this for any audiophiles out there... or for anyone that likes peac and quiet in their vehicle....

ok, back to the pics... here they are...

yep, that's the PRO 60's baby

Hey, great pic! Everything looks like it's coming along nicely. Just wondering how come you went with the Dynamat Xtreme over the B-Quiet to do the rear quarter panel area and tire wells?

lol.. good question... actually, if you look at one of the pics, you'll see where i ran out of B quiet and started using the dynamat... i had to go with the dynamat because that's all my installer carries and i needed to finish laying down the sound deadener before i dropped the car off

lol well that makes sense! So did you notice any difference between the B-Quiet and the Dynamat Xtreme? In terms of quality, thickness, adhesiveness, etc? Using them both side by side must give you a pretty good idea on how they feel and stick. Oh, and how long did it take you to do the trunk and the rear area/tire wells?

yes, the B quiet Ultimate is definately sticker than the DYnamat Xtreme. THe Dynamat's reflective material (not the butyl layer) appears to be more resiliant and pless pliable than that of the B Quiet Ultimate. That's about the only difference I can tell... well no, pretty much the passenger side quarter panel was layered with B Quiet and the driver's side quarter panel was layered with Dynamat... when you do the outside tap test (to make sure you heat a dull thud instead of a loud clank) the dynamat appeared to have a bit lower thud than the B quiet. Maybe it was in my head, but that was something I do remember testing.

All in all, I think they will both do the job!

I had another shot of the entire trunk, but I didn't post that one because that would have given away my little surprise

Gonna look (and sound) good. Just an idea that popped into my head: it'd be pretty sweet to have those tubes (do they have a proper name?) lit so they glow inside. Looking forward to seeing more...

yeah, for me, that's the only way to do it... my amps and caps will be hidden in the spare tire area

Why does the box need three ports and why are they angled differently? Does the angle of the port change acoustics?

the box is being built for max SPL.... my custom box builder is friends with one of the gurus at Rockford Fosgate, and rather than get the specs from the box or the website, he consulted with their tech guru, and after giving him the layout and specs of our Altima Coupe, they developed a box perfect for the T2.

The port angles don't contribute as much to the acoustics as do the port diameter and length. Those must be "spot on" to get the most from your box, and ultimately your subwoofer.

It's coming along nicely, I'll continue to provide update pics for the next few days, they will be finished by Thursday evening and I pick her up first thing Friday Morning... I GOT KING KONG IN THE TRUNK...lol

Nice. You definitely have the hookup. Once it's finished you'll have to go on tour so we can all check it out!!

One other question, I just realized the DNX 8120 doesn't have internal music storage, are you planning on running an ipod or is there a way to install a hard drive?

No, none of the Kenwood's have internal music storage. I spoke with a Kenwood rep, and I don't think they plan on going that route. The Kenwood has 2 x USB drives so you can bring your 16 GB USB drive filled with MP3's or WMA's, and play it all day long! Between that and an ipod, who really needs an internal storage database? Because it uses a hard drive, they are prone to crashing and are not as quickly responding as the USB drive, so why bother? It sounds good at first, but then you use it and its not all its cracked up to be.

Yes, I already have the KCA ip300v, which is the ipod cable.. only cost me about $30 on ebay!

thanks my friend... but wait, it will get much more ignorant.. well, I would say on the ignrorance scale, the final setup will be about a 8.5 / 10...

I'll explain more with photos after the Stillen meet... I can't wait to hear all of the "that's the most useless waste of money I've ever seen" comments... oh its gonna happen my friend, trust me... I know folks are thinking, what the heck could cause that type of reaction...lol

The T2 all by itself should be enough, lol.

No disrespect, but most folks don't know or care about the difference between a Rockford T2 and a P1... and they don't need to! Its not important for most folks, so I doubt the T2 will get a reaction out of anyone except for folks that know car audio.

But yes, the T2 is a monster of a subwoofer... I mean its not the MTX JACKHAMMER, but its still a damn powerful sub...

oh, and for you guys that don't know what the jackhammer is... its the one down at the bottom

Hey so how much sound deadening did you use? I'm about to finish up my a/c with some SDM, thinking maybe 20sq ft would do the job for just the trunk and side panel that vibrates like hell.
