ok so i wasn't racing or anything, I have a ka-t and I live in CA...I know what I got myself into and I know that I brought this on myself so no pity...just a thread to trip on.. but it finally happened, I got pulled over by the CHP tonight for modified exhaust and asked me to pop my hood. I got a modified emissions ref ticket so I'm gonna have to pull the turbo off and run the stock kade to get it properly reffed. This is actually the first time i've been pulled over in 2 and half years being ka-t, it was just not a good night to take your car out...3-4 chippers and 3 cops cars patrolling a really big car meet on some bullshyt operation to give a ton of ref tickets. But oh well, shiit happens and you gotta pay to play especially in CA...I knew this day was coming I just wasn't expecting it to be tonight lolhere's the ka-t:

I understand why a lot of you guys run a bone stock ka here in CA and I contemplated going back to stock but I don't think that is going to happen since the extra power is worth the risk IMHO...I just need to make my exhaust more stealth, right now it's pretty flashy being polished stainless steel. I'm thinking of changing it to a stock looking blacked out exhaust or maybe just painting this one black..idk yet.

on the upside, the CHP officer wrote me a JDM tyte ticket lmao

i'm REALLY glad I didn't do an engine swap cuz then I would have had to swap the old ka in and swap trannies and wiring harnesses..total PITA. Don't get me wrong I have a lot of work to do but it's not all that bad and nothing I haven't done before: swap exhaust mani's, exhaust, hook up EGR and stock intake/airbox, swap mafs, injectors and ECU...think that's it. Maybe a day's work?

That's funny with the ticket.

I think about leaving CA just to Mod Cars.

man that suck, but like you said its a good thing your not sr or rb. tho you prolly could have gotten away with it if you had an lsx lol

side note, you could possible get out of that since its not a silvia. A friend of mine in st.louis got his lawyer to get a speeding ticket thrown out because in the courts eye the officer wasnt doing his job properly, he looked at the front headlight plate and wrote down silvia also . just a thought, i dont know how cali works out there

WOW. That is just nuts. I have to pass visual and tail pipe if I keep my car registered in Dallas county where I live, but I keep it registered at the in laws in BFE East Texas. Local guy is used to inspecting old Chevys not swapped imports. Cali is retarded.

I'd just pay someone to get me passed instead of actually swapping it back to stock.

Yeah man you can most likely get it dropped because the ticket is incorrect. I've heard of a few cases where that happens because the cop didn't check the vin or something.

I love living in VA. We don't even have the sniffer in my jurisdiction area. I'm running no EGR or anything. It is illegal to modify stuff here, but the cops don't care and have no clue what they are looking at.

And this. Or switch to something more discreet, like Circuit Sport or BRM. The fact that your exhaust is shiny and at an angle is a point of interest for cops.

I love your car man...

Yea the worst part about socal is that we DON'T have to pay for shipping on all our parts and we've got a million and one shops that cater to import cars. How terrible!!!

Cali is probably one of the best places to be if you're into the import scene, when will you ever hear someone say "yo man I just drove around in my SR20 and DIDN'T get pulled over!" never cause no one will car. Don't f***in think people are getting pulled over here with they're modified engines left and right, it's not like that. But being you're on a forum all you're ever going to hear is another "I got pulled over in CA" thread. Not the opposite.

If a cop here ask you to pop your hood then he is probably a nissan fan and wants to check the goods out. haha

In this case, I highly doubt that.

Op, that sucks man...but i would agree that you should get a more discrete looking exhaust btw, that one is a little too flashy.

true it really isn't that bad, I just got pulled over at the wrong place at the wrong time. It was a huge gay ricer meet with a bunch of CHP guys sitting around like sharks handing out tickets left and right. We saw a bunch of ppl get pulled over.

CA isn't so bad. Hell, I bought my car (with rb26) from a CA State Highway Patrolman.

He told me his supervisor wasn't thrilled when he drove it to work one day, so he sold it to me.

Sux that you got a ref ticket, But cant say I am suprised, red car, big wing, aftermarket wheels, rear visable bar in back, badges, etc. etc. Its just asking to be pulled over.

I've been popped three times so far, everytime I just BS'ed my way out out of it.

Sorry to see it happened to you, Josh. But, we live in CA and we know the rules.

that's my dad's old 67 barracuda, the "R" on it is to designate the rear of the car cover. He sold it maybe a few months back.

Old cars are the way to go here in CA, I'd love me a 70 240z with a rb25det in it
