Im surprised they dont give you a ticket for going 1mph over the speed limit just because they figure you wont be around to fight the ticket. I get ridiculous speeding tickets every time I cross over into california. One time I was in california and this big suv (with cali plates) blows my doors off right in front of a cop. Im doin about 15 over so im assuming the suv was doing at least 30 over... maybe more. The cop just watches the cali-plated suv barrel on down the road and then pulls out behind me and flips his lights on. I wasnt in cali durring the court date so I had no chance to get the ticket fee lowered. He knew I wouldnt be. F*** the CHP.

So if I am driving with my oregon plates in cali I cant get tickets for mods?

After so many days of driving around without Cali plates you can get a ticket. But then again unless you have douchebag neighbors or drive past the same cop twice a day I doubt you'll get in trouble, just need a good story to tell the officer if you get pulled over, I know of people from like Oregon and Washington who go to UTI here in Sac and don't have to swap their plates....but yeah you can't get in trouble not their duty to enforce laws from other states

Ouch...sorry to hear you got caught.

Exhaust seems to be the biggest red flag to cops around here, my friend's mustang is 10x louder than my friend's tsx, but the tsx has gotten pulled over about three times, hes got an apexi exhaust so its not huge cannons, just shiney.

Is your exhaust within legal decibel levels?

Damn that sucks Josh.I've gotten my hood popped and the cop only bugged me about my manifold. He couldn't see my turbo cause it's bottom mount. :P

My muffler is painted black except the tips, so it looks pretty stock. He didn't bother me about my exhaust either.

Hope you get the stuff resolved!

yeah me too, but i really cant wait till im rich to do what my cousin does. he bought a couple houses in AZ, he lived there for a year & then started renting the house he lived in to a friend. he got all his cars registered there & he has his friend send his mail to his house in socal. he drives a m3 turbo, widebody miata turbo, & a supercharged lexus is300. all with AZ license plates
There is a place near me called Lake county that does not have smog. I wish I do what he does with his mail haha.

That totally sucks man, I'm also in Souther Cali and I get scared when a cop car gets too close to me.

One time I almost shat my pants when I was on the road and I heard sirens, but I couldn't see the cop car. He was going after somebody else. I felt like a criminal that had just robbed a bank and got away!

P.S. I am not a criminal and I don't rob banks.

damn spooled that sucks....we were just talking about running ka-t in socal....on how it will be somewhat doable as u dont have to swap a ka back in ...

IF u want a stock looking exhaust with gains..I reccomend the apexi Noir...its flat black paint but good gains.Or U can slap on the reinhard(the one i have) and just rock the silencer and baffle for daily...Under 90db.....then when u want to have some fun just remove it(screws only)

Or maybe u can remove the silvia tag...and replace it with 240sx and say my car is not a silvia????Rofl

Let me know how much the whole fine comes out to be....I doubt it will be 350 bro...Its prob the same exact thing as a fit it ticket....its $25 per things they cite u for....

Good luck ! ahhh that sucks before school starts too to impress the ladiess =p

i've seen your exhaust and it looks stock as hell being black and all but what did he pull you over for? As far as I know the cops must have probable cause to pop your hood like a modified exhaust or w/e

No. The law says you have like 10 days. I even heard guys with AZ plates get ref tickets here in Nazifornia.

I got pulled over for speeding.

He stared at my gauges for a while, then told me to pop the hood. :\When he couldn't find anything bad, I guess he just thought I was a ricer with pointless gauges and didn't write me up for having a modified car.

ah i see but can they pop your hood at will? i need to look into this, i need to know my rights with having a modified car in CA (if I have any)

I already pulled off my exhaust, turbo, manifold and I hooked up the EGR...god i'm getting good at this I just have to swap ecu, mafs, injectors and throw the manifold, exhaust and stock airbox crap and she'll be bone stock again lol

well i guess this answers my question:
CALIFORNIA DEPARTMENT OF MOTOR VEHICLES wrote:

and i know these guys will pull a "reasonable belief" out their a** if they have to so get ready to bend over if you get pulled over in your modified japanese car

WOWOW dude ive looked over your build from when you first got that car, The car is sexy as hell .Really sry about what happen but the cali is piece of s*** for busting chops on imports. In new york its the same way cops see lowered car, wheels, exhaust with a young person driving they start profiling you.And questioning if they should pull you over, cause you might be doing something wrong.

NY isnt big on smog thank god!! but i heard of some hood poping from auto crime to check vin# etc, etc. And honestly i wouldnt hood my hood for no cop,ill be asking for search warrant to check anything in/on my car.

Also the exhaust of yours doesnt stand out alot man not for nothing.heres mines when it new but its dull, burnt up lookin now from fireballs kicking out it..lol pic is from when i had that exhaust on my vert

You better check with your states standards on probable cause before you get the officer even more pissed off and makes your day even worst.

Ehhh i hear on that but there probable cause better than"These honda and nissan get stolen alot for parts, soo i just wanna make sure etc, etc, etc.

Im just think is straight BS a cop asking you to pop your hood,im pretty sure they hardly know what they looking at.If the valve cover says nissan and there isnt nothing thats bing bing looking its look fine to them.I heard of it happening to a buddy of mines.

He got stopped at check point after some streetracing, cop and auto crime where check cars.If you have a sr20 best be driving with paper saying you paid for from a importer. Most they can hit you with( correct me if im wrong) lowered too much and exhaust tickets.

Ive heard of cali people getting tickets for having aftermarket fog light

side note, you could possible get out of that since its not a silvia. A friend of mine in st.louis got his lawyer to get a speeding ticket thrown out because in the courts eye the officer wasnt doing his job properly, he looked at the front headlight plate and wrote down silvia also . just a thought, i dont know how cali works out there
In St. Louis you can get away with anything. I've been ticketed twice for no exhaust (open downpipe on my SR) and got out of the ticket twice, with the same excuse. "Oh, I just bought this car and it's a mess, I'm in college etc. " I showed a picture of my old rusty exhaust I pulled off the car and judges just write it off. StL is a joke

I heart Alabama. Its really hot and humid, but I can rent out the Barber Motorsports Park.

Man I would just "pay" someone to "ref it."

Love the car though!
