Would it be better to get a wideband 02 or exhaust gauge cuz I think u can tell if its running lean or rich with either of those?

Ok did a compression test on my ka24e each cylinder results came out to be around 160psi all around and climbed to around 170psi as the engine cooled. The hightest cylinder reading was from the 3rd that was 195psi and that was 1 and 1/2 hour into the test.

I'm still getting some weird power and dieing issue with my KA.On a cold start up the car will run and idle around 1100 rpm and sometimes within a minute trying to idle down and die. Also when driving you can feel a lag in the car when driving in first of second gear under 3000rpm and you feel a little pull as it passes that 3000rpm mark in second gear. Any idea what can cause this problem.

On cars equipped with vlsd: will all vlsd's have five lugs or did Nissan build open diffs with 5 lugs also.I found a 96 in a salvage yard with five lugs but the diff doesn't have the orange tag on it I've already pulled the hubs so I can switch over but didn't pull the diff because i wasn't sure it was a vlsd .One wheel was also kinda buried so the spin test wouldn't work.

Do the 180SX and Zenki S14 share the same ECU? Also, what is the difference between the "WC" and "WE" S14 ECU's?

So a buddy of mine just picked up an S13 coupe. So far as I know, it's been an Alabama car it's whole life. It's got about 130K on it. What are some of the first areas we should look at for problems?

$3k is probably high but depends on condition, rust ,paint, engine, wheels. Five speed adds some value to it also. Any aero adds some value. Se's are more valuable than base trim cars and coupes and convertibles carry a premium. Running 240's with 5 speeds can be had for $500 but probably need a lot of work. Mine was $2000 and is pretty rust free and straight . Just need a repaint and engine runs fantastic(180,000 miles. ) Get the best bang for the buck. An sr conveerted car with good paint, some aero and nice afternarket wheels might be worth a little more than 3k. Most fit in the $1000 to $2000 range though.

Look for rust in frame rails, strut towers, under rear bumper and floor boards. Check for any leaks(power steering rack/pump,front oil seal, water pump. ) Check suspension for wear, torn boots, anything bent. Struts are more than likely blown Check fuel rail for leaks. Check oil and radiator to be sure that both are clear. lots of blown head gasket stories on here!! Look for any electrical gremlins.

New to this car stuff. I got a stock 93 Nissan 240sx Convertible SE and I have about $5,000 that I want to put into it. I got rims, amp and subs in it already and I want to put stuff that would make it go faster. What would be smart to put in it that would give the most of the $5,000?Thanks!!

A RELIABLE engine swap. Try finding an SR or something that is freshly rebuilt so you know what you're getting.

would i need to buy anything or do i just simply buy the engine (and of course hire someone to install it). is there anything else i would need to buy in order to put in the motor?

and by any chance do u kno how much it would cost to convert my car from automatic to manual. i got the manual transmission but i just dont kno how much that would cost.

Btw, if you have a KA transmission and want to use it on an SR, you're gonna need to swap the bellhousings.

For the swap, you're gonna need a full motorset, wiring harness, and other odds and ends.

Sorry guys, but I'm just a normal guy with no background in cars. I know how to do minor repairs, but know nothing about the technical stuff like you guys talk about. But I have a 1991 240sx and when I shift gears the car seems to bog down, but then gets up to speed. I always thought that it had something to do with the throttle body and not getting enough fuel when it needs to. I talked to a buddy and he gave me a mass air flow sensor and said that it could be that and to try it out. For starters, do you guys think that its a fuel to air ration problem? And if a mass air flow sensor would help, how the hell do you put one on? Some background info: I did a motor swap about a year ago with another 240sx but manual. Did it with a buddy and even coverted it to manual and I have been driving it since. Just trying to fix this little problem.

Car: '03 1.8T Jetta FOR SALE...hopefully an SR20DET 240SX soon

Post

Alright, I'm new here and coming from the VW community. Anyway I'm a junior in h/s and drive a Jetta 1.8T AWP. My parents have the title and wont let me keep the car when I go to college next year, so I worked out a deal with them. If I sell my car they will give me 4K to spend on a car of my choice that I will get the title for next year when I graduate. Anyway I'm looking for a 240SX or 180SX with an SR20DET swap that is in my budget. Since I'm only in h/s at the moment I don't have a lot of coin to just toss around for repairs and what not. I'm wondering if you can get a legitimate SR20DET 240 or even a 180 for <4K. I don't really care if it's an S13 or S14. What problems should I be looking for when I'm inspecting the car, I have a good understanding of most motors but I honestly don't know squat about the SR20DET.

that all came off as pretty nerdy with perfect grammer and crap, im glad to be here and am anxious for your answers.

thanks

Okay, someone's going to yell at me for asking this, but is there anything wrong with spraying the underbody of a 240 liberally with Rustoleum or some similar anti-rust coating, or would that cause some kind of heat problem I'm not thinking of?

It might be possible to get a swapped 240 for under $4000, but more than likely it'll be incomplete or there'll be something wrong with it. Best thing to look for is either a KA-T, cheap KA that you can swap yourself, or look into paying in the $5-7k range for a good SR20DET 240. When inspecting the car, look for rust EVERYWHERE, especially on the underbody, under the spoiler (if there is one), and near the doors. Ask to test-drive it (or at least have him drive it with you in it) and look for shuddering, stalling, problems idling, etc. Apart from that I'm not much more knowledgeable than you are, I'm fairly new myself as evidenced by the above question XD.

Stance GR+ Coilovers

So i was trying to adjust the height on my coilovers, but the damper wont rotate down further through the lower bracket on either front coilover. the rear dampers rotate easily, but without the front ones moving its pointless. they've been on the same setup for a while, so im guessing the threading on the dampers need to be torqued through the lower brackets a little bit to get them loose. my question is, how do i get the dampers loose so i can rotate them easier?

ive tried wd40 and muscling it, but they barely move if not at all. i dont have rubber gloves, and ive heard that makes it easier.

*also, i figured i could just lower the spring position and let the car sit lower on them like you do with teins, but then i heard you should never mess with the springs on Stance Coilovers and just to adjust the damper postion.

HELLLLLP PLEEEEASE!

Hi. So I'm a new driver I'm looking for my first car/240. I'm thinking I want a s13 but if there's some huge advantage of s14's please let me know. Around what millage do 240's generally start having major problems? I'm looking at these http://stlouis.craigslist.org/cto/1137587250.html but am skeptical because hes asking 1800 for a s13 with 250,000 on it. Please let me know how much u think its worth.

I wouldn't get anything with anything over 150K without expecting to have to rebuild the engine around 200K. Yeah, some last past 200K but they're on their last leg. Aside from the engine, everything else gets old/worn. Try to buy the cleanest one you can so you have something reliable and/or a good platform to work off of.

alright thanks. I'm planing on getting like suspension and stuff but keeping the engine pretty stockish for a while. What else would help me learn to drift, like the first things I should get are suspension and a lsd right?

Yeah, an lsd is pretty much mandatory, some will say even before major suspension mods. If it's going to be pretty much a track car/beater, just get a full bucket seat too. And if you really want to get crazy, start stripping the interior and whatever else, not too necessary though.

But really, I'm no expert. And your profile says your 40? Wow, that's cool. I'm sure you know the basics. Glad to see some older people getting into this instead of irresponsible young kids.......like me lol.

Just getting into drifting and being a new driver, plan on fixing somethings that your going to break. Remember, keep it off the streets and be responsible, ie. wear a helmet and buckle up, stay in tune with you suroundings. And most important .........................................................................................HAVE FUN!
