I just did something I'd give other people crap for. It was dumb and a bad idea but it was fun.
There's a long, tightly curving onramp I hit every morning. It's fun to take reasonably agressively. Especially in the summer when I can get in close to the inner concrete barrier with the window down and catch the reverb of the VH's snarl.
Today I was taking it easier since there was another car on the ramp with me. It's a 2-lane ramp. I took the other lane and proceeded to calmly pass. As I got level with the other car (and the lane end approached), the other drive decided he didn't want me in front. So he matched my speed. No, sir. No way. You should have made up your mind sooner. Still in the lower midrange of 2nd gear where the Q is at it's weakest, he starts pulling up even with me. Lane is ending fast. I figured I could drop back or hold him off. I tipped in the throttle a little more as the turn tightened and felt the back reaching the limit of the snow tires' dry-surface traction as the revs climbed past 3000 and found power again. Eff it, I though, and I tipped in a little more. The back slid out SMOOTH as silk just a little, my turn tightened, and the Hankooks HOWLED (noisiest tires I've ever had). I snaked around the front of the Altima with the rears squealing just a little way after the painted lane ended (road was still nice and wide) and watched him shrink in the rearview mirror as he resumed his original pace.
That's what he gets for turning it into a contest when it didn't need to be.
