Hmm...profound observation, indeed. I always had a sneeking suspicion the GC's CD door swung both ways - there was always this disturbing whirring sound whenever I poked the RCA prongs into its rear. Also, anyone else notice how the yellow analog stick and DPad bear an odd resemblence to a pair of cajones?
I won't be as brave as to accuse any of the systems of being "gayer" than any others, afterall what a pair of consenting Gamecube's do behind cabinet doors is their business but what what interests me is gameplay and price-point. True, most GC games are catered to children (Nintendo has been a child-oriented gaming company from day one) but that's not to say it's lacking any quality mature titles - True Crime: Streets L.A., Beyond Good and Evil, Prince of Persia, Phantasy Star, Soul Calibur II, the Tony Hawk franchise, along with an array of sports titles.
Throw in some solid if not mind-blowing Gamecube-exclusive titles like Timesplitters 2, Eternal Darkness: Sanity's Requiem, Zelda, Viewtiful Joe, Mario Sunshine, Mario Kart DD, Monkey Ball, Metroid Prime, Metal Gear Twin Snakes, etc. and the Gamecube's library starts to look very attractive.
True it lacks the large library of the PS2 and even the XBox but true to Nintendo's motto of quality over quantity, it could argued that its library has a lower crap-quality ratio. The only real must-have XBox exclusive title I'm looking forward to is Halo II, a FPS unrivaled by other console shooters but a game that would compare unfavorably to PC shooters like Half-life and Call of Duty.
True, the GC doesn't have online multiplayer but the only mp game I play is Madden 2004 and I'd prefer kicking my friends *** than someone else online, but that's just me.
In the end, each system has its Pro's and Con's but the GC's low price-point and solid library warrants some attention come holiday season.
