As for my diet, I know I have painted a pretty unflattering picture of myself. Make no mistake, I'm not one to sit down with a tub of ice cream and a plate of bon bons to watch Oprah. I just want to be able to eat something delicious and not have to worry about it going straight to my a** (or my arteries). I'm not afraid of pushing myself physically in order to be able to do that.
Everything in moderation, of course.

And you know, you can use high-fiber whole grain bread for the sammich, sweet potato instead of the insulin bomb russet, my beloved Brummel & Brown instead of butter, low fat sour cream, and the ice cream? Well I personally avoid HFCSs like the plague, so Breyer's All-natural is apparently a winner. I don't know I don't buy ice cream.

Well when I make my inevitable pilgrimage to AZ for a rust-free 240Z chassis (or a Roadster), I know I have one meal accounted for!

And a place to stay if you need it.

Tomorrow is D-Day. The numbers will reveal just how freakin' out of shape I am.

I'm gonna start up my usual summer night-time jogs around town on Wednesday. Hope fully this will clean out the lungs and heart since I cut my smoking down to less than a pack a week.

I need to lose about 40 pounds to feel normal again, then I will hit the weights after all that.

Good plan?

I went back to the gym today after 5 months off. Long story short, I lost 30lbs from Jan 09-April 09 and maintained for couple months then I broke my hand. Gained all 30 of those pounds back and then a few. I hate it. I went in tonight and rode 10 miles and ran/jogged/walked another 5. I was dying but I'm trying to get into shape to take the PAT for the LAPD. As it sits right now, I'm 5'10"/285lbs/ biceps 18" / chest 50" I'd be happy with being 225-230lbs and my cardio good enough to pass the PAT without a problem. The strength stuff is going to be a non-issue. It's the 1.5 mile run in 14 minutes that has me worried.

1.5 miles in 14 minutes should be a cake walk after 30 pounds are lost for you...

I used to run a 8 minute mile when I weighed 230.

Don't start fast. See how long it takes you to run that far at a comfortable pace. Each day, take it up a notch. You'll be there before you know it. I'm gonna try to get to 2 miles in 13:18. Just for s***s and gigles.

It was super nice out today, so I skipped the elliptical and went for a run... and I'm feeling it.

Had a doctor's appointment this morning, spent most of the afternoon in the garage, and went to a band concert this evening. Don't have anything planned for tomorrow though so I will post up numbers then.

I still have the same pair I bought in Germany. I use them for nothing but running, so they last a while.

Hahahahahha. This thread makes me feel like a lazy sloth.

When I'm not working or out doing something, I just sit around and eat. Lol, s***ty food too.

I couldn't imagine what would happen if I had to run a mile or something. I'd probably pass out.

I envy your guys' dedication, I really do.

Better than expected.
nissangirl74 wrote:My goal is to achieve the standards for the Army PT test and be able to do that everyday. It's 77 pushups in 2 minutes, 82 situps in 2 minutes, and a 2 mile run in 13:18.
Sit-ups - 44/82

Push-ups - 30/77

I freely admit that the push-ups were the girlie ones where you only push up a portion of your body weight. I had tendinitis in my right hand pretty bad a few years ago. Lots of regular push-ups are not possible. I used to be able to do one-armed push-ups but I seriously doubt many more of those are in my future.

I didn't go run today and I don't have a treadmill, so that number will have to wait. Will post on Friday.

Anyone heard of the lunge/push-up exercise using a deck of cards? It's pretty brutal. http://www.healthandfitnessadv...rkout

so, I was thinking about stopping at a local crossfit gym, anyone have any advice?

I'm not in awesome shape atm, I am hoping they have a beginners type of program, or at least something for me to follow for a few weeeks on my own so i can be on the proper level to start the program.

I do the p90x workouts, but i know for a fact crossfit puts them to shame. I'm just hoping crossfit is a bit more dynamic of a program for beginners.

Running shoes only have a life of a few hundred miles at best, depending on weight, running form, etc...

Your shoes may be worn out already. They could still look great on the exterior, but the support of the shoe could be shot.

Speaking of running, a coworker introduced me to the Nike+ system.

iPhone/iPod Touch/iPod Nano plus Nike's little accelerometer gizmo.

It's pretty damn accurate, and combined with Nike's online workout programs has gotten me back into running. It also provides realtime feedback on distance, time, and pace. Which is then all transferred to Nike's website to be shared and compared. For $30 it's a f***in' win.

^ Good job dude, I've always wondered how that system worked. So some bad news, I got into a fight this past weekend over Easter break and totally wrecked my right hand so working out will need to be postponed for a bit. I can't really grip anything tight and I definitely don't want to be throwing around weights like that.

I used to use the Nike+ thing...not a bad little system, but decent at best when it comes to distance...it can't compare to a GPS enabled watch like the Forerunner from Garmin.

Then again, yea, it's only $30, so it's a decent trade off. But for someone who's seriously training, it's not going to pass the cut.

The only other problem is that all the damn Nike+ shoes suck wang. Outside of spikes and maaaaaaaaybe the Nike Marathoners, the Nike running line blows chunks.

I never could really figure out where to put the doohickey in a shoe without the Nike+ thing in the sole...always fell out on me.

Well yeah it's not GPS watch (AND it works indoors). But I'm an amateur runner who likes the upload feature of Nike+ and the real-time pacing info helps with my goals. But it is still pretty damn accurate, especially for what it is. It was off by maybe 10 feet on my 3 mile run yesterday (indoor track for comparison). I did do a good job calibrating it, though.

And yes, Nike shoes blow. Fortunately companies make neat holders for the accelerometer that lace into any shoe's shoelace now.

I've been super pissed lately, so I joined the gym last night. Worked out for about an hour and 20 minutes. Started out with a 1.5 mile run at 6.7 miles per hour, then did some arm training, then some abs, then hopped on the bike to maintain a 150 heart rate for 10 minutes. My person I was with wanted to leave then, so we quit. He definitely has me beat on the strength training, but I can smoke him in the cardio.

I finally bought a bike! A really decent refurbished Schwinn World Sport. 10 speed for the flat area I live. I thougth I was hots*** moving all fast until some dude on what was undoubtly a $1000+ bike hauled a** past me. ::shrug:: whatever. I got 10 miles out of it on the last ride. Going for another one today because of the awesome weather.

Strength training has been null for a week and a half between my apartment taking on water, travel, and the car being down. Though turning bolts on a car for 4 days and runnig/biking out of fustration is a pretty good workout too. So I guess all is not lost. At least I still eat well.
