Sick dude, you are already down over 20 lbs?!

Do you feel any better? Can you notice the weight loss?

...is your gas mileage getting any better?

Haha...yeah, I'm really down that much. Feel better? eh, maybe a little. I haven't really noticed the weight loss too much. I mean, a little in the mirror, and my belt keeps moving a notch smaller. But not like a "damn, I've lost weight" kind of thing. Doesn't matter though. Scale doesn't lie, so I know it's happening.

For you guys training for distance running- I'll share something I do when I'm either getting bored of my paced routine or want to improve my overall times.

It came from an interview with David Beckham. He does thing drill where he runs flat out, as long as he can and then walks until his heart rate drops back to near at rest. Then, he runs flat out, as long as he can again and repeats until he can't run for more than 20-30 seconds.

Oddly, this will improve your times in distance running, and will provide you with a bump in stamina and endurance. Just don't run to far from home. It WILL kick your a**. Oh, and a tid bit of nutritional advice for you guys running often- an excellent source of recovery carbs (gatorade and real food aside) is a can of Mich Ultra. Low on calories (for a beer) has some of the fat that you need to replace what you burned, and provides easy access to carbs for your body to recover. Yay beer!

OH! And a question for ya'll- do you find yourself drinking less (or not very much at all) when you're exercising consistently. The desire seems to slip away for me.

I have heard that a beer will re-hydrate you better, initially after training, than water.

As far as drinking goes.. With me at least; being this in-depth with my training does kinda snuff out my desire to have more than 2 or 3 drinks when I go out. MAINY for the fact that I can tell a noticeable decrease in my performance. Although training after a night of heavy drinking makes me feel a little better and kills my hangover faster... It's just not worth sacrificing an efficient training session. In most cases.

that sounds really similar to the training my friend and I are starting, we start of running 60 seconds then walking 90 seconds and repeat for 20 mins. thats just week one though, but I believe we increase the total time every week and decrease the time walking. also we incorporate trail runs on the weekends.Yeah I tend to decrease my drinking when training, it may be me, but I lose my tolerance with better eating and less and less drinking. and also drinking makes me eat unhealthy things late at night.

ok Week 3 (?) update:

171.4 lb

some people had suggested I started eating like 5 small meals a day, and to keep my calorie intake up, so I gave it a shot. My weight loss immediately stalled. I started going back to what I was doing before.

smurf you have to balance those meals properly in order to lose weight in the 5 meal plan.

here is a good generic diet article from active...

http://www.active.com/nutritio...t.htm

7 day meal plan:

http://www.active.com/nutritio...n.htm

if you look at the 7 day meal plan link, and have a basic understanding of what foods are your proteins, carbs, etc, you can easily substitute and customize the diet. what im really trying to get is the proportions the article offers though.

I eat like this at least 6 days out of the week, I havent lost much weight and i'm in my second week straight of the p90x (I wavered a bit at the beginngin...) but i have gotten damn well stronger, noticeably more solid, cloths fit differently, and people are commenting on how i look.

stick with it and let your body adjust, but small meals are the way to go and keep your metabolism up all day. tea is also a big part of my diet.

I've had better luck with 3 small meals a day (or even 2 small meals a day). The only reason I tried the other way was to see if I could accelerate my steady weight loss... which didn't happen. I did it for roughly 2 weeks.

The eating was pretty good though

I don't mean to judge or anything but it sounds like your starving yourself dude... thats no way to drop weight, you can't keep it up for extended periods of time and when you break the habit, you'll gain a lot of weight again. I've done it before, it was an extremely fast way to cut down, but left me in very poor health.

you shouldnt ever really be 'hungry' ... you have to listen to your body. as long as your active (aka working out), if you feel hunger throughout the day, you should eat! just make sure your proportions are correct, and only eat to satisfy the hunger, not smother it! be aware of calorie intake and break your foods up into proportions. One good way to learn your proportions is eat SLOWLY, it takes time for your brain to realize when you're full, the slower you eat, the less likely you are to overeat. once you figure it out, you can nom away as quick as possible lol

i.e. small handful of almonds instead of eating from the jar, small single serving popcorns, 1lb of lunchmeat for 5days of lunch, etc.

and btw, this is all just from my own experience... i'm not doctor or anything

Nice Rob! I'm going through the same thing. I've only lost about 10lbs in the last 6 weeks but my clothes are fitting much better and my strength and endurance has increased dramatically.

There's is another type of diet called Paleo. It's basically taking you back to how caveman ate. One the leading people on it is Robb Wolf. A lot of people swear by it but a lot of people swear in general.

I've done the 5 small meal thin in the past as well... it just doesn't work for me (both by weight loss standpoint, as well as personal schedule standpoint).

And believe me, my diet is very balanced. Anyone that comes over my house can't believe the variety of stuff I have for a single guy. Just about every meal I eat is made at home.

I haven't been keeping up with this thread since I posted, so I apologize if this has been brought up already. I'm looking to do a full body system purge and I've been doing the research and get a lot of fly by night stuff and mixed reviews. Have any of you ever tried any products or know of a good product or recipe to purge all the contaminants and preservatives out of my system. I've been reading and it sounds like this might be a very good way to lose a good bit of weight since all of those nasty foods tend to stay all pack up in the colon. The lemonade diet looks like the most successful out of all of them but I'm not sure if I want to spend that kind of money on something that supposedly cleans you out. If drinking a nasty liquid concoction for a few days/weeks will seafoam my colon and strip me of 10-20 lbs along with make me feel lighter and more energetic then by all means I'm for it.

My dad swore by this doctor and program. He followed it diligently for over 15 years and swore it was one of the main reason he lived to be 94 years old. I've tried some of it and the results are impressive. It's not just a cleansing program either. He teaches you how to live a healthier life.

I tried the 5 day detox several years ago. Not to be gross, but you would not believe some of the nastiness your body stores. I would recommend it for anyone. I felt tons better after I did it.

When you did the 5 day detox how much weight did you lose? Just wondering because I would be seriously interested in a 2 week detox program since I am laid off and have nothing better to do with my days than sit on the toilet.

i'm so skeptical of those programs... idk what to think, there is so much conflicting information out there... its hard to justify spending $60+ on something like that.

I'm suspicious of 10 good pounds in a month. But I mean, whatever floats your boat.

About 8 pounds. That's a lot for a week but I was exercising a lot at the time and this was way before my thyroid decided to take a crap so my metabolism was still in high gear. A lot of mine was fluid too, something you won't experience as much.

I don't know if this one is significantly better than any of the others on the market or if we just got lucky. It's the only one I ever tried and will be the only one I ever use.

Just in case you are like me and assume if you go out to eat that the salad is your most nutritional choice, think again. Here's an article on some of the most unhealthy salads in America. The #1 salad has two DAYS worth of sodium in it! :oy

You're definitely right, some of those restaurant salads are baaaaad news. But, its not so much the salad (vegetable part) that is sodium laden, its the crap that comes with/on it. Your biggest culprit is the dressing. Which is solved easily enough, use less, or better yet, none at all!!

However, other things like: tortilla chips, won tons, crispy onions, crappy restaurant grade processed cheese, seasoning for the chicken/protein on the salad, and in some cases, the chicken itself because it is "pumped" (industry term) with sodium and water to increase the yield, essentially selling you less chicken and (in some cases) an ounce of water.

But I digress, use your head and pick out what the bad parts are and just avoid them.

Saladworks is pretty cool. Another chain, and I think they have them in AZ is Sweet Tomatoes and/or Soup Plantation. They're one in the same. HUGE salad bar with superb (personal opinion says "the best") soups, and focaccia. The menu changes seasonally, too. Though the staples still remain. http://www.souplantation.com/

Greg took me to Sweet Tomatoes. Awesome place but a long drive for us. When I began watching my sodium levels, I became aware of the salad dressing info. It boggled my mind how much sodium, fat, and cholesterol is in that stuff. I think I might switch to fresh squeezed lemon juice and a little bit of pepper and be done with it.

I found another list that might be useful.

It gives you a rundown of the fat, sugar, and calorie content in some of the most popular drinks.

It's been a minute since I've posted a WOD. So far this week I've been to Crossfit 3 times and hopefully make it tomorrow. Our so-cal sectionals for the annual Crossfit games takes place Saturday @ UCLA so no weight day this week.

Warmup - 2 Rounds10 Jumping Jacks(haven't done those since Jr. High)Bear Walk Across Floor5 BurpeesCrab Walk Across Floor5 Sit-ups

WOD - Workout of the DayBuy-InFish Game on the Rower - I scored 1215

Cash OutAMRAP 15min - As Man Rounds As PossibleParking Lot Dash10 Dead Lifts 135lbs10 Knees 2 Elbows - Hang on Pull-Up bar and bring your knees all the up to your elbows

Today's WOD was a lot of fun and the short amount of reps really helped break each exercise up. I finished 6 Rounds plus a set of dead lifts. I'm finally at the point where I'm not finishing last every time and starting to get competitive. Either I'm progressing or everyone else is regressing, regardless it feels great.
