would it badly affect anything if i posrted out my stock intake manifold ? is it possible to be too thin and make a hole in it from heat?

ok so long story short im rebuilding my motor and saving myself about 3-400 bucks. so questions...this is for the bottom end, thats all thats getting rebuilt.

what are things i should do? im just doing an oem rebuild for now on my bottom end.

i am trying to source an fsm thats not on the computer, is there paperback copys of them out there?

what should i get done to the used crank and possibly block?

i have more just forgeting them

you really need the fsm to see if everything is still in specs. Get your block to a machine shop, get it honed out, have your crank resurfaced. I can't emphasize more but to get the fsm even the online copy, just print out the spec pages and the torque specs. I think I only printed out 20 pages in all when I rebuilt my whole motor including the heads. You need to the clearance of your bore with your pistons...etc.

You could gasket match. I wouldn't do any more than that without experience. Actually if you want to port something buy a cheap greddy-style manifold and clean all the casting crap out of those and have a nice manifold for cheap.

yeah porting can be tricky. I believe even the surface texture of the metal in the runners can effect how it runs. (probably only in super high performance situations). try reading up on it first. probably wouldn't hurt to gasket match it though. you'd probably have to get the aluminum pretty darn thin before intake air temps/pressure could blow through it

the sr20de crankshaft will work on a redtop sr? if so does it need a different bearing size at all or anything?

It will fit, same part. You only need new bearings if the bearing mark sizes are different between the crankshafts.

yup, what he said..

the mark on the crank will be different so you need to match the right size bearings for the crank.

I am running a SR20DE crank right now.

No. SAFC sucks.

And of course, everyone wants "only 300HP"

You dont need a standalone. You have at least 5 other options.

does it need to be pressed in as in with a press that would be at a specialty shop? or just ring-pin-pound-pound-ring done?

First of all, First, second, oil ring scavenging rings (all three). They all have to go in certain orientation.

also, make sure you check your end gaps on ALL 1st and 2nd ring as well.

Once you orient them you compress them using a piston ring compressor (duh) and orient the piston/rod assembly into the bore and tap it with a hammer.

Make sure you put some rubber hose around the rod bolts becuase if you dont you will scratch either your bore or your crank journals.

Hey Corey,

Go to zeroyon.com and download the s15 fsm. It has all of the details regarding engine disassembly and reassembly. If you still can't get the wrist pins in/out take the parts to a machine shop, they have plenty of experience doing it.

use assembly lube and you can push the pin in with your thumb once you've got one of the clips out. Remember to put back the clips on both ends of the pin when you've got it back in...
