Where do you live at?

I guess I'm spoiled, but here in FL, pretty much if you can legally own a gun you can get a CCW...

All you have to do is take the class, pay the fee, and then wait the 2~6 weeks for approval.
Soon to be back at San Francisco county again. CALIFORNIA!! I hear different counties around CA are more lax on the concealed carry, such as orange county. Really depends on the sheriff in the area you live in.

It's a Sig 556 pistol. Sig puts the recoil spring around the piston rod so no buffer tube sticking out. It's chambered in 5.56 NATO so i can shoot either 5.56 or .223. If I put a stock on it without getting a Title III tax stamp I would be in deep dodo as it would then be an SBR "Short barreled rifle." I have to be very careful what I put on my other rifle too, because I could be found guilty by assembly if I have say, a foregrip on the full-sized rifle. Both have the picatiney rails and an accessory from one will fit the other. A case could be made that I put the foregrip on the Sig sometimes which would, again, make it an SBR.

Nala I am guessing that since you live in a very sheltered life you probably haven't been around firearms. If you have any factual knowledge of anything firearm related I would be very surprised.

There is only one person who can protect me when it comes down to it and that is myself. I live in a very well off area and we have low life's come through and raid houses. When my house got broken into it took far to long for the local pd to get to here.

Is there any reason you don't have the most reliable, dependable gun ever made on your list (Glock). I carry either a 23 or 27, both in .40 S&W. They both have great capacity, light weight, they are stupid easy to use, no uneccesary safties, and they are very easy to conceal. I'll try to find a pic of my EDC setup. This pic is before I trimmed the the Kholster, it's much nicer now.

Definitely take a look at Kholster.com for a very affordable, very comfortable IWB holster, thats what I carry.

Edit: Compact 1911's suck balls, I have owned both full size and compact. IMO there is no better CCW gun than a Glock for all the reasons you listed.

Have you ruled out the S&W M&P series? I recently got to put a couple hundred rounds through a friends fullsize and compact .40s and was impressed on the ergos and how they felt.

I love the look of those. I picked one up. The grip is great. The weight and balance feels right. Then I felt that goofy hinged trigger....

No thanks.

It's a bad idea to do trigger work to a carry gun. If you ever find yourself the defendant it a defensive shooting case the prosecution will capitalize on that.

I've fired a couple Glocks before, just didn't like them at all.

What didn't you like about the compact 1911 design? Was there increased muzzle flip or did the frame just not fit in your hand well?

No, those aren't safety-related. Basically messing with the trigger or any safeties opens the door.

ehhh...trigger work, if you're making a difference in the pull weight is iffy.

smoothing up a trigger or getting some of the take up and slop out is perfectly acceptable.

Mosssssssssssssssad Ayoob makes some very good points on modifying a trigger on a defensive pistol.

I wanna get a Springer Precision kit for my XD...not gonna lighten the pull, just slick it up and get rid of the overtravel and excess pull.

Ayoob actually signed up and made some posts in regards to the topic on XDtalk...lemme see if I can dig up the thread.

here ya go...about halfway down the thread he posts.

http://www.xdtalk.com/forums/general-sa ... ccw-3.html

taking time out and doing that on behalf of a friend's request..seems like a really cool guy.

Marco, if I was you, I'd save some money to make a trip to Lethal Force Institute...it's up in your corner of the country.

http://www.ayoob.com/AboutUs.html

whenever they offer some more classes anyway...it's not cheap though, probably 4 figures, but on the plus side, he'll show up and be an expert witness free of charge or whatever it'd be called anyway, for a student involved in a self defense shooting.

It's no coincidence I have the book that is quoted. Mad means to protect himself, and also to protect himself. When I pick up a carry gun I will get one that shoots well right out of the box and leave it alone. DAO is also something I would like with no manual safety. Point it, and pull really hard to make it go bang.

I've fired a few types of pistols and never met one I couldn't get to hit the bullseye. I have never fired a weapon and thought the trigger was strange to pull or particularly hard. To my knowledge none had a reworked trigger. I do tend to grip the weapon high and tight like it owes me money, though. I did not like the feel of the hinged M&P trigger, but I have never fired one. If it was all I could get, I would head to the range and practice with it. I've satisfied a woman, how hard could a goofy trigger be?

People are wimps when it comes to trigger pull.

Until they can accurately pull through the double action of a revolver and hit bullseye they need to man the F*** up!

I started thinking about carrying IWB and thinking about comfort and other issues with placement. I am not going to change my carry position but it made me take a few other things into consideration. I don't mind trading a couple rounds of magazine capacity for a slimmer gun that is easier to conceal and more comfortable to carry. Also, sweat-related corrosion could be an issue in the summer - a handgun like the CZ charlieo pointed out that comes in full polymer construction would be both lighter and more resistant to this issue. Just sharing.

I tried to see if carrying my 226 would be a good idea, it really wasn't very hard to spot through one of my larger t-shirts but was okay when I put a button down over it.

As far as trigger work is concerned, I like the trigger on my Sig but since I bought snap caps and started practicing every day, the slop in the DA pull has become a bit more noticeable. Sig offers trigger services that reduce the pull by a little in both DA and SA, and they also say that the feel is more precise. They also have the short reset conversion available that comes standard in their elite models, but the SA pull is already really light and short.

a good finish and wiping down the gun everyday will keep it from rusting.

a good holster that keeps the gun from making much contact to the body helps also.

and getting a stainless steel piece ;)

there's a HUGE market for compact guns right now though. If you wanna stay with the Sig's, check out a 239.

:werd: And make sure it is a high Chrome and Nickel stainless. You should NEVER used a blued weapon in a holster. Unless you really like the look of bare metal...
