I don't know if it's something I'd want for a primary carry gun though.
Agreed, it is not something I would prefer to use either if there were other options available. I don't CC at all right now, so I haven't had to address that issue yet. I bought an extra-heavy recoil spring, and that smoothed my CZ out a lot, even made it easier on the hand to shoot, IMO. But still, it has some drawbacks and any way you look at it is a ~30 year old gun of unknown history.

Hello Walther PPK:

The only walther I would buy right now would be a p22 depending on the price. Their QC is garbage now that S&W owns them.

My wife's P22 is reliable and accurate. It's a great gun for plinking and training, but not as a carry gun. The PPK is not loved. Blowback with all that kick and a puny .380, no thanks.

the worst part of the PPK is the small beavertail and the trigger.

it's not a bad shooter if you have small hands and c*** the hammer though.

but yeah, it's a huge market in nice compact, full power pistols now though.

PPS > PPK

(and it's available as a .40 if you're concerned about calibre)

kinda

for a primary gun, get something in 9mm, 40 S&W or .45 ACP

those three have the biggest selection of good defense ammo and are considered the standard for a pistol for protection.

and there's A LOT of choices in those calibers.

what's your height and weight?

im 6' even and 170, kind of a skinny frame, looking for something in .40 or .45, ideally the guns listed in my first post. the more i think about it the more i like the 1911 but I have never held/fired a compact version before.

Go for a full frame 1911! Your frame should be able to conceal that with an under the arm holster!

If you're carrying in the chamber that's definitely a safe gun to do it with.

How do I conceal an underarm holster? It's still 90 degrees outside every day here and I don't wear suit jackets. I like the idea of having the gun in that position and having the concealed extra mags but I don't think that I am going to get into a situation where I would be using more than the capacity one the mag in the gun.

Terrific idea! :poke:

He wants to carry at the 5 o'clock position... how an underarm carry meets his requirements I have narry a clue.

the hardest part about concealing a pistol in a good inside the waistband is to keep the grip from printing (making an outline through the shirt or otherwise being noticeable)

to be fair, most shoulder holsters get to be very uncomfortable. the 1911 is a fine platform...the compacts however can be a little more finicky and will have generally have a little more muzzleflip but aren't bad at all.

I personally think the commander size is the ideal size, but that's me.

there's a lot of good choices out there though...best advice I can give you is to go to a few shops and check out some different stuff.

get a feel for how much you're gonna spend on certain things...read reviews.

of the next pistols I want for the purpose of carrying...it'd probably be a Dan Wesson V-Bob and a Kel-Tec P32 (it's the gun you carry when you can't carry a gun)

and perhaps a Springfield Armory XD9 subcompact. It holds 13 rounds of 9mm with the flushfit magazines now. that's a lot of firepower in a small, easy to carry and hide package. I'm really considering the idea of taking in my Kahr PM9 and trading for one.

once again, a good holster is critical. Don't go get a cheap Uncle Mikes or anything...spend a little cash and get a comfortable, quality piece of leather.

Go to a few stores and try them on.

Hell, one of the local dealers will let you take the gun you're looking at and go find a holster that fits before you ever even purchase anything...

It'd be difficult to conceal, but I think a double behind the back holster is the way to go... If one is good, two is better, right!

I still don't understand how that can be qualified as a pistol, it's just an M4 chambered in 9mm with the stock taken off and the barrel shortened by a couple of inches.

it's sold as a pistol.

no stock.

and that's not chambered in 9mm either nor is it an AR ;)

part of why I want a Draco pistol...that's a lot of firepower in a small easy to carry package (why man purses where invented, f*** what your mail man told you)

I do believe if TMS put a buttstock on it, it'd be a federal violation.

Do you see a funny looking buffer tube sticking out the back? Also how does that look like its even chambered in 9mm

Sorry i didn't take notice of the magazines or the cartridge size, Bushmaster has something very similar to that that is chambered in 9mm. The fact that it's using 5.56 or 7.62 makes it being a considered a handgun even more confusing. This to me would be more along the lines of a high powered sub gun or a paratrooper friendly assault rifle. The Bushmaster version does have a buffer tube that sticks out the back that can be used as a shoulder stock if need be, and you can get it in 9mm or .223.

Wait, isn't that chambered in like 6 or 6.5mm?

nah, it's .223

it's considered a handgun in the same sense that a Thompson/Center Encore is a handgun.

the end of the assault weapons ban meant we could start making them again though you could get pistol kits for Pre Ban AR receivers if memory serves me right.

some states, it's perfectly legal to carry a rifle on your person too though.

I do believe AZ is one of them...kinda like that black dude that had an AR and a pistol on his hip at some Obama rally.

in the states you can't carry a rifle, like TN for example, these offer a nice option for added firepower if you really think you'll need it or just like the piece of mind.

I'd be perfectly fine with the idea of having an AR pistol or AK pistol kept in my trunk or in a man purse...except that it hurts when something like that is swinging around and slapping my leg and knee jerk ratards are a lot harder to sell the idea of if being perfectly legal.

There was actually an instance a few months back when a man was carrying one of the draco pistols in a state park here (this was just made legal for CHL holders to carry in)

The man in question apparently now has a lawsuit on them for the way the park ranger handled it.

yes, I think the guy is a jackass, much like people that open carry into Wal-Mart....it's attention whoring at it's finest.

Where do you live? The city where I reside in, if you were mugged or held at gun point, they still won't give you a permit for concealed carry.

Where do you live at?

I guess I'm spoiled, but here in FL, pretty much if you can legally own a gun you can get a CCW...

All you have to do is take the class, pay the fee, and then wait the 2~6 weeks for approval.
