So, I finally got my car running. But it is running super rich. My wideband says its at 10. Its blowing alot of smoke. When I had the turbo on i didn't have this issue. Now its N/A.

Info:
93 KA24DE
Motor is stock
Cometic head gasket
ARP head studs
All new gaskets everywhere
Ported intake mani
Emissions removed (EGR and everything)
Turbo mani with "turbo delete pipe" and full 3" straight pipe. No cat/resonater/muffler
Walbro 255 fuel pump
300zx TT fuel filter
stock fuel rail with stock injectors with stock FPR
All stock sensors
stock ECU

Dont know if there is anything else to list. One idea I got from talking with iLL Garage is a bad O2 sensor. Anyone else have any idea?

So I hooked up my gauges. I did buy more red. So now they are all red
Image

My car was waaaaaaaaayyyyyy to loud. I would get a tick at idel. So now that its N/A, I need a muffler. I dont like the look of big fart cannons on the rear. So, I really wanted to keep my catback the way it is. So i got a mid pipe muffler and installed it where the stock cat goes.
Here is my buddy welding some pipes.
Image

Welds look good
Image

I cut the flange off my old down pipe.
Image

Now my buddy is going to weld the pipe to the flange
Image

My buddy welding away
Image

Here is the nice old 3" exhaust next to my new 2.25" exhaust with the muffler.
Image

Everything fit together nicely on the first try. And the car sounds nice! But now my exhaust is too low. About 1/4" off the ground. So I plan to redo that.
Image

I finally broke down and bought a bench vise. I wanted one, just didnt want to spend the money.
Image

I have never welded in my life. My buddy left his welder at my place, so I started practicing. For never having a lesson in my life, I dont think it turned out too bad. I love welding and want to do more!
Image

I need an adapter plate to connect a filter to my MAF. I took some dimensions off my MAF, and drew up the flange in AutoCAD.
Image

Then I traced it onto some 16 gauge steel
Image

I cut out the flange and cleaned it up. Then I welded a 3" pipe to it. I also bought gasket paper and cut a gasket out.
Image

Once again, I know the welds suck, but I dont think they're too bad for it being my first time, and with no one showing me how. I just picked it up and tried some things. I like it : )
Image

Intake filter is on.
Image

Bumper and grill are back on. The car looks nice, but is super dirty. I do miss my FMIC. The car looks a little naked without it.
Image

So the car sounds nice and is quiet enough to drive on the street. It starts up every time and runs pretty decent. I just need to raise my exhaust and figure out why my car is running so rich and I'm back in the drifting game! Tonight I am going to try a different fuel rail. My car is running super rich. My AEM wideband is at 10, and you can just smell it in the air.

If your running a walbro and a stock FPR and a stock ecu or a stock map, then it'll run rich. The stock FPR can't (usually) bypass enough fuel to keep the pressure in check. Put a fuel pressure gauge and I'm sure it'll be high.

^I had a buddy tell me the same thing. I wasnt sure what was wrong. My ideas were:
1. I had no intake filter, maybe the lack of restriction of air is messing with the A/F ratio
2. I have a bad injector o-ring or a bad fuel rail grommet.
3. What you said. The walbro is over powering the stock FPR.

I took out my nistune ECU because with the stock map it was running too lean. Now I have a different ECU that is stock. Now im running to rich.

Do you think I need an adjustable FPR? or is there something else I need?

Yes get an adjustable FPR with a built in gauge, set it to FSM specs. That should help get your AFR's in check.

Id run a filter of some sort, no reason not too.

Im still going to switch fuel rails first. But I dont think that will fix it either. I guess I am going to get a FPR.

I am running a filter. The only reason I didnt have one on is because I needed an adapter plate to attach it to my MAF. But as you can see in my last post, I made one. But the car is still running rich. So on to the next idea's.

So in the last year there haven't been that many updates to this. Life got weird. Anyway. I am ordering a lot of new stuff in the next month. I am also having my GT28RS rebuilt. I plan to be hitting the track again this summer... although I did say that last summer : (

Most of my new parts are in. First off. My turbo was rebuilt and built as a hybrid.
Image
Image

Other goodies: Hallman pro rx MBC, Injector Dynamics 1,000cc fuel injectors, HKS Super Sequential BOV
Image

Lets get started. (FYI, when it runs well, it is getting dropped another 2")
Image
Image
Image

FMIC installed. Cold side finished. Hot side is most the way finished.
Image

Goodies
Image

I need this fitting for the other side because this rail had a stock FPR on it.
Image
Image

Assembling injectors
Image

Good to go!
Image

Here is my FPR. I got this from a friend. I need to make a bracket for it yet.
Image

Removing stock fuel setup
Image

Removed
Image

Teaching my buddy how to wire things up.
Image

All new clips on the harness
Image

Finished other than my return line. I need a fitting. I still tucked my wires.
Image
Image

I took my hot pipe to a shop to get the HKS flange welded to it. It needs to be tig welded and I don't have access to one. Tomorrow night should be installing the turbo and redoing the 3" exhaust. That mid-pipe muffler is coming back off and I will be straight 3" again.

I couldn't tighten that last flange bolt, so I pulled the manifold

I didn't like how the bolts were going on, so I cleaned the threads
Image

I couldn't bolt up the oil return because I need a fitting welded to my return flange because I use an SS return line, not a rubber hose.

Got it all bolted back in

Installing my HKS SSQ BOV
Image

It wouldn't go in nicely, so I pulled the hotpipe and did it in my vise.

I think you can see my SS coolant lines down there

Some new stuff from iLL Garage

We couldn't find the correct thread size for my fuel rail, so they welded AN fittings to my old fittings

No, I wish. It won't be done in time. It almost is ready to start up. All I need to do to start it is connect my fuel lines and plug in my ECU and Z32 MAF. But my fuel lines and MAF aren't back yet. Plus I have other little things to do. Cage, tune, wire up gauges, hydro-ebrake, alignment. I will be at a couple drift events this year.

Got my front bumper back on.
Image

Driver side wheel on. Ride height isn't set yet. Man am i going to need more camber!
Image
Image

Passenger wheel on. Looks nice. Camber looks good. Ride height will be setup later.
Image

It might be a couple weeks before I get to work on this again. I have a cage coming. I also need to put on the rear wheels. I am going to rent a fender roller then and I will redo the fronts and finally do the rears. Then I will adjust my ride height. Getting down to the wire! Things are looking good!

This is a reposted picture, but I needed to combine the blue fitting with my oil return fitting. I had the paint stripped and I had a shop weld the AN fitting to my return fitting.
Image
Image

My fuel line fittings came in.
Image

Got my Project Kic spacers.
Image

Mounted
Image

Time to roll and get some negative camber.
Image

I am making my own links. I am almost done. I bought the RUCA 3 years ago and never installed them. These are going on, but only temporarily.
Image

RUCA installed.
Image

I can't install the other side because I am missing the spacers that go in the heim joint. Anyone know where I can order more, or do I need a machine shop to make more?
Image

Best girlfriend in the world helping me roll my fenders so i have a sexy ride height.

First roll is done and ride height is set. Coilovers are maxed low. It looks better in person. It looks like I rolled it to far forward because of the light.

Redid my fender roll and took out some of that negative camber.

Fender not rolled.
Image

Redid the roll/pull with less negative camber
Image

Wheel removed to see the fender better. I think it looks nice, but I need to touch up the paint.
Image

New hydraulic e-brake.
Image

I also finished the passenger side rear. I am confused. I pulled the suspension out of the driver side and installed it in the passenger side so I have the same camber/caster/toe. Then I tried to roll it as similar as possible. I finished and with the wheel on and the RLCA jacked up, the wheels fit the same. I mean the gap between the tire and the fender is the same. My confusion is that the driver side roll looks WAY more aggressive then the passenger side. I don't understand how the set up can be the same and the fitment be the same but the roll look so different. I don't like it but I'm not sure what to do.

Wheel fitment done. My coilovers are as low as they go.
Image
Image
Image
Image

The spacers I ordered didn't fit this joint, so I drew it up in CAD and a buddy made it in a shop.
Image

Making my own links. I took flat cold roll steel about 1/4" thick
Image

Heated it with a torch and bent it to shape.
Image

Used an angle grinder to cut and grind shape.
Image

Then used my new/old drill press to drill out my holes.
Image

I couldn't get a drill bit big enough, so I bought this. It isn't ideal because I want to go through both to make sure the holes are aligned, but I was careful and they are.
Image

All that is left for the links is to weld the bolt to the U-joint and then install. I am happy with how they turned out. I need to hurry up and finish this car because the next drift event is July 7th! Tonight I am going to finish the links and hopefully the exhaust.

Today I redid my fuel lines with SS lines. I also connected them to my fuel rail using AN fittings. I needed an aftermarket FPR. I made a custom braket out of steal sheet metal and I made it angle upwards so it is in eye sight when looking into the engine bay.

Bracket
Image

All finished except for the vacuum line running to the FPR. I need to go to the store to get more line, and a fitting for my vacuum manifold.
Image
Image

Tomorrow night I think will be either finishing the exhaust, or oil and fuel lines for the turbo. I need to hurry up and finish this!

I finished hooking up my oil and coolant lines for the turbo
Oil return adapter
Image

T block installed where the stock oil pressure sensor goes. I have an aftermarket oil pressure sensor and my turbo oil feed line.
Image

You can kind of see my silver SS oil feed line inside my intake mani. Helps give that tucked look
Image

Just picked this up so I can make some sexy fun videos with my car this summer.
Image

I have set my next tune date at iLL Garage for June 16th. I will be ready by then. The only major things that need to be done are intake and exhaust. After that I have extra or little things to do. Cage, ebrake, gauges, kit, suspension links. I'm excited!

I did "Run for your lives". It was one of the most fun things I have ever done. This girl had awesome makeup.
Image

Boost controller installed.
Image

I finished my exhaust. I redid it a lot to make it as tight as possible so I have as much ground clearance as possible. I welded brackets to the exhaust and bolted it directly to my car. I know it will be loud. I installed a flex pipe to help with engine vibrations. Half my exhaust is in the drive shaft tunnel to help it stay high.
Image
Image

Great clearance!
Image

JDM PVC intake! kidding. Just mapping the bends out, and I will make it out of metal.
Image

Link finished.
Image
Image

I'm trying to get this all done by this Friday. Saturday I go for my tune.

Thanks man. I appreciate the love! Once its running I am putting on an OEM lip all around.

So i had a hell of a time, but I got my passenger side links in last night. I found out my tension rod was bent somehow and that threw off my fender roll so when I put the wheel back on and set the car on the ground the car was on the wheel. Tonight I have to reroll that fender and pull a little more. I will also be wiring in my fuel, tach, and oil pressure gauge tonight. The other gauges are done. I also need to start setting up my ebrake.

When I rolled my fenders I noticed the driver side was different then the passenger side. I wonder why.....
Image

So because of the stupid bent arm I needed to re-roll my passenger rear fender. After I installed my new links and put the car on the ground it was sitting on the wheel. So I did a little harder pull/roll.

Wiring up the last three gauges, so I pulled the panel.
Image

I soldered my tach to the #2 yellow/red off the ecu.
Image

All red and all wired up. I had to guess with the fuel gauge. Touched wires until it worked.
Image

I don't like how close my turbo mani is to my BMC. So I decided to make a heat shield. I took some scrap aluminum a buddy gave me.
Image

Used angel iron and a c-clamp to bend it. I did it bend by bend. I would make one bend, then put it in the engine bay. Then either fix that bend or move to the next. I did this step by step till I formed the shape I wanted.
Image

I went to auto-zone and bought heat wrap. I was hoping their was a good way to apply this, but their wasn't. The instructions said to use hose clamps on the exhaust. Well, I drilled holes and pop riveted it.
Image

All done. I'm happy with it.
Image

Installed. I think it looks great. I even bent the bottom in so it covers the BMC underneath.
Image

This is as far as I'm getting. Tonight it goes on the trailer. Tomorrow off to iLL Garage for a tune. I will install the e-brake and cage when I get back.

Tune day! Down to iLL Garage!

Pushed out into the street!
Image

Trailered up and ready to go. That was fun. Pretty much had to throw the trailer into a ditch to get it low enough.
Image

Gauge broke during tuning.
Image

Tuning time!
Image

Nice Pull
Image

Another pull
Image

Day was good. Car is sick! I ended with 243whp and 255wtq at 7psi. I could go higher, but I want this semi reliable. I want to beat the crap out of this thing and it keeps moving. I love it. It's power to weight ratio is sick! I have never driven anything this fast! I predict my car weighs around 1,800lbs. I am very happy. A big, BIG thanks to iLL Garage and all their awesomeness! I highly recommend them to everyone. Know their s*** and are really nice/cool people. Mondo is the man at tuning!

Now I need to tidy some small things up. Get my cage next week. I really need an alignment!
