The beta was pretty damn fun, but I don't know if I want it right now. Still broke and jobless =/

I played the beta a bit. It should be fun for most. Only thing that I didn't like is that you have to play a lot to get decent weapons and accessories. It makes it hard to play this somewhat casually. I'll be picking it up at some point mainly for the campaign, but I'm not sure how much I'd play the multi-player at this point.

I'm not sure how much you have to play to advance a rank, but from what I understand you get 2 kits open to you from the start, and then the first 3 ranks open the other kits, and then after that you get 62 ranks to customize your own classes.

If it's the same rate of level up as Battlefield 2142, it won't take long. Early levels in that game were coming every 3 maps or so on the big 32v32 assault maps. And if you could get a good functioning squad, you get points even faster from teamwork score.

I'm assuming COD4 will use the same principle in trying to focus the player into a teamwork based environment.

I haven't picked it up and am not sure I will, however:

I cannot even begin to express how amazingly refreshing it is to see someone move out of the WWII genre.

I am SO DAMN SICK of WWII games it's indescribable. The sheer number of them is ridiculous. No other single specific setting in videogame history has spawned so many copycats.I've not played a WWII game since MoH Allied Assult, because I simply don't have a desire to play a dozen different games in the same setting.

So, kilotons of respect to Infinity Ward for seeing the light, breaking out of the monotony, and bringing some good gameplay into a setting that hasn't been done to death. -1 point for spelling Infiniti wrong, though.

I played COD4 last night at on my friend's x-box. The single player was fantastic. I didn't get to sample the multiplayer b/c when we did split screen it didn't fill the maps with bots, and a 1v1 map is kind of boring.

According to a video interview I saw a while ago on gametrailers.com, Infinity Ward had originally planned to do a modern shooter for COD1, but the publisher pressed for a WWII era game. I'm kind of glad they waited, because a modern shooter on technology that was out around the time of COD1 wouldn't as rich and as solid as what they have now.

And you know whats as bad as all these WWII shooters, is the sheer number of times i have heard someone complain about them and talk about how the market is over saturated with them, like they are the only one that notices or is bothered by it.

No offense of course.

I picked up the PC version today, aside from having connection problems it seems pretty damn good.

The multiplayer is good but I was hoping it was gonna be more open (BF2 style maps)

I was hoping the multiplayer maps would be more like BF as well. I've been playing BF2142 since it came out, so I'm accustomed to that style of map.

That's not to say the COD4 maps aren't good. They're great and just as frantic as some of the infantry based maps on BF.

And I love the level system. Not to mention, the epic guitar riff that's played when you level up is freaking cool.

lol at the guitar riff....It kinda made me feel like I was on a Counter Strike server though.

Would have been nice if they used ranks and not levels....I know its pretty unimportant but I don't wanna say "I'm a level 64....."Reminds me too much of this guySo who has it on the computer? Even though every other attempt at online gameplay w/nico fails horribly I say we try it again?

My handle is Hijacker. But it's hard to get anything going without a buddy list or something to that effect to coordinate with. I guess we could start up an AIM chat and get things rolling. Or a vent server so we can do voice chat and actually not suck too badly.

naw, I figured since you were talking about live....

I don't have one of the next gen consoles, so it was a better option to just build a good computer.

IMO computer is better for shooting games, and driving games...and thats all I want

Edit: Hardcore mode is damn good.

This game is great. Very fast paced, very intense multiplayer, heck the multiplayer looks better than most single player fist person shooters. Pick this game up if you haven't already, lets get a match going sometime. My gamer tag is Teenwolf240

i love it, the single player campain blew me away, especially the AC130 mission, as well as the part right after you rescue that pilot and **** hits the fan (huge huge moment in gaming i think)

So...I should buy this after AC?

I saw in a review on IGN that it should replace Vegas/Halo3/GoW as the most played game on Live. As a huge fan of Vegas and Gears, that makes the game sound pretty promising.

I don't get too excited over multiplayer games often but this one had be counting the minutes at work all week, I cant even really explain why its so fun because on paper it looks like every tom clancy game ever made.

Pretty much this, i picked cod4 because I hate games where I rail on someone from behind with the default weapon only to have them turn around and kill me with some Muderbeam2000 in one shot, With cod4 the starting m16a2 can be just as deadly as the higher lvl weapons.

I just finished single player, the ending is sick...The ending of the bonus map is really cool too.
