Rearend is 2 hours of labor $80/hr = $160 installed

Torque converter is a whole different story. I know to drop a transmission and to put another one in which I think is the same process needed for switching the torque converter is 8.2 hours according the the little mechanic book which equates to about $490 at a generic transmission shop.

Well I would have had my rearend by now, but UPS lost the shipment. They mailed both Gregs and mine at the same time, but mine never arrived and now I have to wait 14 days too see if they find it before I get my monies back as it was fully insured.

The new LevelTen transmission and torque converter arrive early next week and will be installed sometime late next week. I went with a 2,400 torque converter which is not that much higer than stock....stock is 2,100-2,300 depending on the engines HP. The torque converter gets installed in the bellhousing of the transmission so I think that the transmission would have to be practically 100% dropped just to install a new torque converter, but I am not certain.

My car is at the dealer getting a new steering rack, bigger rear sway bar, fuel pump, and some other things done to it....just maintenance for now. I will be taking it up to Moroso drag strip this weekend to see what it does stock in the 1/4.

I don't know what price you are paying BRM for the gears as mine was a little different becuase I sent out a core to them that I bought off of ebay and did some express shipping and the like so my costs will be different than yours. Just add about $170 for installation labor plus another say $150 for round trip ground shipping to the price you are paying BRM and that should be really close to total costs. So add about $320 to whatever BRM charges you to do this mod for the total costs. Contact AzHitman and he can give you more details on the costs. This is our cheapest option for getting a this type of modificaiton done as Stillen want $2,000 and another company wanted $1,200 and this did not include installation and shipping charges.

It will probably cost me a fortune, but I will be doing a 2-day air (cost=$225 shipping) out to Cali with my original rearend if the one that got lost does not show up. It was fully insured which is great, but I am still out some monies and a great deal of inconvienence.

oxs1....btw, I would like to see pics of your heatsheild for the intake. Can you describe it to me or take a few pics? I have a cone K&N already from another fellow NICO member with a heat shield and I want to see if you design is any different as the design I have is good, but I am looking to modiy it a bit. I just have the stock air box on there right now and plan to mess around with the intake a little this weekend.

oxs - Price for the gear swap is $800. You will be responsible for shipping a differential to our shop, or we can secure one for you (but will charge you for it).

We'll work something out that makes sense for you.

WOOO FRIGGIN HOOO!!!

Are they gonna reimburse you for the delay?

I should get a partial refund for the shipping as I paid $225 for one way 2-day air shipping. Maybe half my monies back?

Which wheels are you referring to? The ASA's or other ones? I really need to go with a 9" width in the rear if you are burning those tires up like that. The corvette runs the size I was looking at using on my car with 9" rims....275/40/18. If the vette is running this size of tire...then it should be great for me with plenty of good traction. If it is good enough for the stock corvette then it will definetly meet & exceed my needs.

I can't believe that they found it as I talked to them today and they said the chances of finding it no matter how unusual the package is would be very rare.....

I don't know about the 1/8 mile....that should be close to a 0-60 time and since you have to shift with and without the 4.08 then you would definetly benefit. The part where it may not benefit is the 1/4 mile becuase it adds an extra shift right before the end of the 1/4 mile. I get my car back today :D and tomorrow night I am driving an hour North to the drag strip to find out what I do stock. Then on Friday it is off to some dyno runs, then install my new 4.08 that afternoon, then back up to the drag strip that night to find out what the 1/4 times are with the 4.08. I will know for certain all the numbers on my 95 car by Friday night if all goes according to plan.

Hold up there big shooter.

Don't forget to do some in-town driving to establish a wear pattern on the new gears - I'd recommend waiting a few days before any hard dragstrip-style launches.

p.s. Call me ASAP when the car is done so we can arrange for your "other" mod... :)

sounds like a good idea to break in the gears first. I get them installed Friday afternoon. I will head up to the drag strip next week Wednesday night for a couple of runs. That should give me 5 days before I run the 1/4. I get my car back today, thank god, I will call you later tonight after my basketball game while I am icing my ankles...not as young as I use to be, but I can still play ball.

zinkie - Hopefully you mean for your 92?

That IS NOT the diff you need.

There is, however, a Q45 diff for sale on ebay right now, bid is at $99. That, and $800 (plus shipping to our shop) is all you need.

Rob - I'll be on my cell....

Zinkie. I dont really think that would be a worthwhile swap on your car, IMHO.

With the 97, it may not be feasible. Let me check with our guy, but it's unlikely.

The 97 (to my knowledge) uses an entirely different rearend.

No problem.

OKAY, all you big talkers! The 4.08 is ready, but I don't see a line forming yet!

The price is right, the turnaround is brief, and the results are AMAZING!

I'm gonna go for a drive now... :D
