So the automatic adapter bearing has been stuck on the motor for at least 5months. I cannot seem to get it off. If you live anywhere in hampton roads, VA. Feel free to come by and try to remove it. Tried bearing puller, same puller with a slide hammer kinda attached to it, freezing it with CO2 and grease gun method.

I started painting my roof and now I know what orange peel is. So i will do that again later. However i did replace my throwout bearing. That makes me feel like i did something. I still need a clutch pedal if anyone has one.

How did you mess it up? You should have used a grease/wax remover a couple times before you started to paint. Then primer, then paint, then maybe clear? What is this bearing you speak of? Post pics, and then try and cut that ***** off.

degreaser? Well i din't use it and thats not the problem with the paint. I rattlecanned it and in spots it has some splatter and some spot have orange peel. So i will wet sand it and put a couple more cans of black gloss on it. Hopefully that will look better.

Next time I am under the car I will take pics of the major problem i have been having.

You have to sand to primer, clean the bare metal with something to get rid of all dirt and grease, then several coats of primer (one at a time with drying in between) and several coats to paint (one at a time with drying in between). Use a constant sweeping motion from front-to-back or side-to-side. don't stop in the middle, use a ladder if you have to so that you can cover the entire in roof. This will help keep lines out. Apply light coats too. Also, since you're rattle canning it, use the ones that come with the "fan" nozzle and only use about half to two-thirds of the can so you don't have to worry about it sputtering while you're painting.

No, leave it and cut the slits open to increase airflow to your radiator. This along with a cooling panel helps a lot, esp. if you are/will be turbo.

Just a little update. Haven't done anything with the pig nose yet. Ditched the teardrop rims for 7 spoke SE's. Got a clutch pedal and installed it. Had to help a friend with his s14 so i dropped her off the car stands and pushed her outside. Now i am taking time to clean up my garage a bit.

I wanna cry when I think of all the time I wasted not working on my car to get it on the road. Well its 2009 and my 240sx still just sits there. Well my birthday is April 10th and my goal is to daily it by that date.

List of what needs to be done:

1) Get that Automatic Adapter bearing out once and for all. Put Pilot bearing in. *Done*2) Install metal gasket. Put on new lightened or resurfaced stock flywheel.*done*3) Install Clutch and Pressure plate. *done*4) install slave cylinder(maybe start wiring?) and mount starter/transmission.5) finish wiring6)put Driftshaft in place7) Remove broken exhaust bolt and install new exhaust hardware8) install headers and order BRM exhaust(need to see if they can supply a cat)9) Hook motor back up with new fluids or what should I do if this has been sitting a while?

10+) Start it and proceed to get it legal.

I plan on removing the EGR and all of that.

I got a great deal on a BNIB set of Tanabe coilovers, that look like I will get a nice drop but not be slammed.

Pics tonight after I get home from work. I lack motivation so hopefully bumping this thread will make me want to update more.

I have a block with a mounted crank and the internals in a box, but I don't think I am going to build it as it would just be cheaper to buy an entire swap. If anyone in Va Bch needs a bare block I gots one.

*SR block got donated to Danny of RE_specgarage for his S13 Coupe I believe.

I am going to stay with KA24e's for now.

Hey man, I've done the 5spd swap on my old vert, trust me when I say YOU ARE NOT ALONE about that god damned automatic pilot bearing.

What I did, was I (CAREFULLY) took a Dremel with cut-off wheels and cut through the bearing in two sections... cut out about a quarter of the bearing and it will come out so much easier.

I tried the grease packing method and the pilot bearing puller. neither worked for me. the dremel finally saved me.

the whole swap was a pain in the a** but proved worth it.

..i miss that car.

EDIT: Be aware that this bearing will OM NOM NOM on your cut off wheels... you're going to need >10 wheels.

I just remembered that I kept my auto bearing as a souvenier... so i went down to my garage and found it in my bolts bin and took a pic for you.

Good luck man!

I forgot to mention that I tried that as well... trust me, there are methods I tried that just popped into my head so i figured why not.

Including a theory involving a butane torch, and another theory involving dry ice...

If you don't own a dremel, I would VERY VERY highly recommend buying one... It is so worth it in the end... I've used mine countless times on many things... One time i had to switch out my ignition switch... and the screws that hold it on are blank headed screws... no way to unscrew them.

So I used the dremel with a metal-etching sort of drill bit and enscribed a slot on each screw. Voila!

Dremels are extremely versatile and small enough to fit in tight spots, while still packing plenty of rotary tool power to make your job 10x easier and 20x faster.

I endorse them fully.

The chisle and hammer idea, which, though it may eventually work, will make you more frustrated, possibly busted knuckles, maybe some pain to your fingernails, and tons more cursing.

Im not sure how much they cost but they are certainly under $100... an investment that pays for itself... when you consider time is money, you'll be saving both.

..plus you get to feel like a dentist. ahahahah

Hey man, I'm in Hampton...are you going to the Vadriven meet next weekend? While I'm over in Va Beach i wouldn't mind lending you a hand if any work needs to be done.

Our cars are pretty similar, mine started as automatic and is now on Tanabe Sustec Pro Type II's. Looks like a good start!

Oh man i remember when i swapped my hatch. The auto pilot bearing was a royal pain in the a**. I tried the puller tool multiple times and cut up my knuckles and jammed my finger once. I used a dremel and the puller and finally got it off after about 3 hours. It was such a pain. just be careful not to cut to deep. And when you put the manual bearing in make sure it goes in straight. I forgot exactly how i did this but i like bent some of the lip and had to sand it down for it to fit. Both taking it out and putting a new one in is such a pain. You can try an old alignment tool or a block of wood to help muscle it in. Good Luck!!!

I am gonna try, to beat on it after work. I am gonna borrow the chisel and hammer from a friend if he's home. If I am still at a loss I wouldn't mind help.

I had no Idea bout the meet, I should head out there.

Well I am going to wait until the swap is done before working on that anymore. I still need to fill up the rest of the pig nose. Get a lip to support the bottom, and add support to the top of the air dam opening.

Its warm today in Va Bch.

Today I will go hammerdin on that POS.
