It must have just been improperly grounded. I moved the ground wires and it's been working 2 days again... we'll see.

quick question from a noob:

I would like to install a Sony stereo that integrates bluetooth handsfree (MEX-BT5000) and have never done it before.

Do I need an antenna adapter for this or does the antenna fits right in?

Thank you guys for the great info in this forum,

Hary

You need an adapter.

Is there any way I can splice into the antenna wire?

Otherwise, does that mean if I install my own, I won't be able to receive FM radio until the antenna adapter is released?

If that's the case, that's not a deal breaker for me, I can live with no FM radio for a few weeks!

Thank you again, you da man!

Jemdawg, did you take any pics of the door panels, and how they come off or anything? I am hesitant to work on my car as every car I have worked on before has had screws that attach the panel/door handle/armrest to the metal door frame. Is this the case with the V also? If not, can you please give me some info and tips before taking off the panel to replace my speakers.

Either way, I will probably write up a tutorial of my complete stereo install when I finish, I am in the middle of doing my FG sub enclosure to hold my 12" Eclipse. I am still debating on wheather or not to leave the stock stereo in and run my system off of it, or install my $350 Eclipse HU. Either way, I will more than likely put up a tutorial for anybody that wants to do this themselves later on.

Thanks,Clipse

after 3 days of staying alive, I moved the unit slightly to fit it back into the dash area correctly. it went out on me again on the 4th day. I'm lost, guess it's off to a shop this weekend.

I just did things the creative way. I didnt feel like ordering any adapters since it was a last minute idea.

07 Nissan Versa S, with crappiest stereo. I knew I was replacing it anyways, why pay for a good one right?

Headunit: Pioneer 6800Speakers: Front and rear are Infinity 6 1/2 componentsAmp: 500 RMS JL audio Sub: 10" Alpine Type R

For the headunit I just hardwired it, Diagram on page one worked. BUT the wires from the back of the headunit DO NOT match the doors. But by using my 14.4 battery and testing the wires at the harness, I tested them all first. Then I used a universal pocket and just made my own mounting hardware. I plan on replacing this headunit with a indash Kenwood double din probably during the summer.

For the antenna, this is what I basically rigged. I bought a Short antenna replacement thats only about 12inchs long, and it had a 3 foot cord. I put the antenna under the dash on the passenger side and ran the wire over to the headunit. I live out in the sticks, and I still receive every station I listen too, so its good enough for me.

Still working on tuning, but first impressions are amazing. For now I dont have an amp on the mids and highs, but with going with components on the front and rears, my highs deffinatly are not lacking. I dont go super loud, but for me, its more than enough.

I used to do DB drags and SQ competitions for IASCA. So I do have alot of hearing damage. Over the last 4 years, I havent done many loud systems, but manly go towards clean overall sound. I also dont dump money into stereos like I used to either.

For now, I love it, but needs a little tweaking.

Its simple.

First use a small screw driver and pop off the silver ring around the back half of the door handle, Then pop off the black ring that goes all the way around the door handle.

2nd, take a small screw driver and pop up the plastic trim that holds the window buttons, and lock unlock button. This is all one piece, and mine were stubborn. Once they are off unclip the wire harness for the locks. With that out of the way you will see a brass screw holding the door panel to the metal door. Front doors have 2 srews, rear doors only have one.

3rd, with the screws removed, its time to pop off the door panel starting at the bottom. On my doors it seemed like one corner was always overlapping so it was easy to grab ahold of at that spot. Starting in one corner and working your way around the door, pull the panel towards you, you are pulling out push clips basically. Once about 8 clips are removed, the top part of the door that touches the window needs to go straight up.

If any white clips are still in the metal part of your door, pull them out and clip them back into the panel.

Assembly was basically the reverse, lower the panel straight down so the top is fully seated, then make sure you pull the wiring harness back through the door lock hole, then basically use the palm of your hand and hit the door in all locations to make sure all the pop clips are fully seated.

The only part that took me a second to realize, is the black trim around the door handle, one of the clips is not a forward style clip, it has to be lowered into place before the rest can just be push clipped back into place. Hard to explain, but look at the clips when you pull it off and you will see what im talking about.

Hope that helps.

Well LMS79 your exploits make make Happy that I am keep the upgraded Audio Package intact the way it came all under warranty too. The wife is already complaining about too much Bass lol. If she only knew what a higher powered system would be like she would realize how tame our system really is.

I just got the Metra wiring harness for the V. It doesn't have the orange wire for Illumination. Does the one from my new aftermarket HU have to be connected?

Thank you

Still waiting on the kit, they said it should be in today, but I'm not gonna drive out there today. Anyway, Jemdawg, do you have info on how to get the stock stereo out? Is that whole front panel just plastic clipped on to pull of with my panel popper? Also have you been back to your dealer yet with your equipment in your car? If so have they told you anything warranty or anything else wise? Thanks bud!

To do this, you have to remove the middle panel on the top of the dash. To do this, you simply have to pull the tabs out beginning from the front. It may, or probably, will feel like you are going to break it, but you won’t, just pull a little harder and it will come right off. Now, if you look at where that panel used to be, you can see two screws holding the panel that is around the stock head unit in. Simply remove these screws and remove the panel. You can unplug the hazard light button, but do not unplug the airbag light, simply take the entire light out (there are tabs that allow you to do so). Take everything you took off and put it somewhere safe. Now you are left with the head unit with the mounting wings holding it in place visible.

You can ask Geoff to e-mail you the complete write-up, with pictures, that I wrote a few months back. It would have been posted on the site by now, but there seem to have been some complications with the people in charge of that, so in the interim, Geoff will have it.

I personally have never used the orange illumination wire. Ive installed probably over a couple hundred headunits. I used to be an installer for audio express. I am by no means saying that there could be a couple cars out there that you have to connect the orange wire. But right now, I never remember using it, and I did not use it in my Versa.

Thank you for your reply.

So should I just connect all the wires from the wiring harness and leave the rest alone?

From my understanding, the illumination wire is usually tied up to the headlamps in your car in the event that the head unit has a dimming feature, so it isn't really necessary.

The only wires you NEED are:

8 speaker wires(4 speakers + and -)12V constant12V switchedGroundAntenna

If you have an aftermarket amp, then you need to hook up the 12V accessory wire, and hook up the correct RCAs for whatever you are running the amp too.
