Does anyone know how to make 6/12 speaker plates for the front on a 89-93 240sx? Or does anyone know of a link that can take me there?

I've said it before, and I'll say it again ...

Someone on here taking woodshop should make these (free wood, free access to the tools and maybe a good grade??) and help the 240 brothers out :D.

i've been thinking about new front speakers... there are some aftermarket pioneers in there, but i have kappa 4x6 plates in the back and the pioneers dont hold a candle to em. i would love to have some 6.5s in the front, and those instructions look pretty straightforward... i'm wondering though, putting in a tweeter seperately seems like a pain. can you fit a 6.5 component in the front speaker spot? usually they're a bit deeper because of the tweeter in the middle of the cone.

i, too, would be willing to pay for some nice mounts. $100 seems a little steep though, i dunno ;)

Guys,

I tell you what. I'm fixing to do a 6 1/2 components system in my S13, so I'll do a step by step photo guide for you.....

How's that?

I used to do pro audio installations, and I have thought about selling the plates we are going to make for our car on our website..

What would you guys be willing to pay for Lexan Glass Speaker Conversion Plates?

wow you guys actually took me seriously... but common, making these plates is soooo easy... if you don't have a jigsaw already, go buy one cause you'll need to use it sometime in your lifetime... either that or borrow one from a friend... get some 1/2" MDF and start cuttin! how you cut it should be common sense... if the speaker is too close to the grill after instaling it, then just trim back the grill a little to make room.. silicon around the plate if necessary... DONE!

i might seem like a complete *** telling you how easy this is, but i could honestly not justify spending any more than $10 on a plate like this... unless it's made of some crazy lexan glass... and even then i wouldn't spend over $20.. DIY, it'll be a good experience

thats true but iam still willing to pay for them. So if it comes out messed up i cant blame myself i will blame the person that made it. But since your saying its easy why dont you dont you do it to make some extra cash? Iam pretty sure alot will buy from you

lexan glass goes for like $50 for a 1/8" 2x4 sheet, and with labor, i cant see them being any cheaper than $30 a piece, which seems steep for some speaker plates that i could cut myself. but. whatever. i'm still interested =) i don't have time to measure and cut and trim god damnit ;)

If we make the part, I don't see it being more than $40/pair for the fronts.

Thanks!

P.S.- I have the design template already made and just need to finish cutting them out.

Well,

I spent about an hour trying to cut out the templates. We are having problems with the Lexan melting. We are using a jigsaw with 24 teeth metal bits. The teeth get so hot that they are melting the Lexan and when the bit passes past a section freshly cut, that passed section melts back together.

I'm not sure that Lexan is going to be the best option. I think that MDF wood templates might make a better match.

The lexan is fine when cutting straight lines, but when trying to cut the circles, it is almost impossible.

I don't claim to be a lexan guru, so maybe someone with more experience could give me some pointers.

hey twinchy... i spent about a total of 60 hours making those door panels... i don't really have any more pics, they got deleted, but here's another long distance one:

oh and underground... i've had some experience cutting that stuff with a jigsaw!

do you find that the edges crack a little when you cut it as well? i had to be carefull to not get too big of a crack in it when i was cutting cause i had limited amounts of it... anyways about it melting back together, i couldn't find anyways to avoid it, so i'd do after cutting it, i would just snap it off :D leaves rough edges though, so if you have access to a spindle sander that would work great for those curves you're making...

Yeah, I think the MDF in 1/2 would be the best option. The lexan is just too much trouble and it looks really crappy with rough edges.

With MDF, I can cut it and sand the edges. If you guys are interested, I will make them out of MDF tomorrow. My goal is still to have the brackets ready by Friday. The cost will stay the same as the same amount of labor is involved.

Let me know if I can be of further assistance!

Hey,

We finished the 6 1/2 speaker adapters today. This should be great for the guys going with the component systems.

We initially made them out of 3/4 MDF, but found that when fitted, they were too thick. So, we are now using 1/4 Board.

Here's some pics. They fit the car perfect, everything bolts up. They will run $40/pair and will include all hardware, screws, etc. Shipping is Free if in the continental USA!

I will take some pics in the morning with the speakers on the car, when I can get some day light.

Take care!

awesome =) count me in for a pair.

when you put them in the car, can you put the window down and measure the speakers your using and give us an estimate of the deepest speaker we can put in there? I'm going Kappa components, which i'm pretty sure other people have used for this purpose, but i think this would be a helpful tidbit for those of us that have never actually pulled out the front speakers and poked around. thanks! let me know when you're taking orders and how you're gonna go about it =)
