The Zaino package is similar in price, but doesn't come with a towel. I had to go out and buy towels (this was before I heard about 5star). Anyone see that commercial with a lady shopping in an ultra-fancy store, asking for 63 of their finest towels? That's kind of how I felt. The towels in the garage cost 5 times what the bathroom towels cost.

Yeah, you got to go with the NICO supporter when they are both essentially the same product.

Here's what we say on the website. "One 5 Star Shine kit will protect one full sized car, truck or even the largest SUV. Each kit covers 250 square feet. 5 STAR SHINE is not applied in heavy coats like waxes - only a thin coating is required to protect the surface."

I did my Dad's Nissan Titan Crew cab with 3/4 a bottle. I'm not going to say for sure it's going to cover 2 "normal" since I don't want to have you upset with me if it doesn't. I'd say just do 1 car and see what you have left.

chad,

2 questions for you,,,,,,,,,,,,,

if a vehicle has swirl marks, and you are going to apply the 5 star, give me the EXACT sequence of product application that would take care of this,,,,i.e., dawn wash, clay bar, wash again, swirl remover and/or polish before or after 5 star?????? can u apply polishes with 5 star???? i'm planning on putting the 5 star on a black vehicle with very visible swirl marks!!!

question 2,,,,,, i did not use all of the 5 star "wax" treatment. can i still apply it to my Q for a little "extra special shine"!!!???? i am thinking you MIGHT be able to squeeze two vehicles from one order,,,,,know you don't like hearing that!!! LOL thanks chadjeff

ps-----did a "real" (hose, bucket, and elbow grease!!!) wash on the Q yesterday, just a wash mitt and suds,,,,,,,,,,,,the shine is still incredible!!!!!! going on 10 months. no wax could ever do this!!!!!! definitly check into this,,,,,,,unless you like re-applying every other month!!! LOL

Hey Jeff, Here's what I'd recommend...

First, sure, you can use the left-overs as a 'touch up' since your car has been treated. Just be sure to clay the areas that you want to use it on so you'll get rid of any paint impurities....

As far as getting rid of the swirls.....

Wash vehicle first with car wash soap and dry down. Then use clay bar and wash off residue and dry. Then if using our buffing compounds to remove the swirl marks start with the gloss guard that is the mildest abrasive compound and see if that will remove the swirl marks, if not step up to the leveling compound and if not step up to fast acting in that sequence. After swirl marks are removed to satisfaction, proceed to using step 1 then step of 5star shine. Also never use any waxes or polish on top of 5star shine, only use our PPS cleaner from then on if you want to polish the 5 star shine coating.

Hopefully that points you in the right direction.Let me know if you have any ?'s

thanks chad! are you saying that non-wax products (swirl removers, etc) should be applied before the 5 star system is applied?

Hi Chad,

I have left some questions on your "5 star shine" website on 06/21/04 after purchasing and using your product but have yet to receive a response, so I'll try my luck here....I recently purchased your car polish product (05/30/04) after reading positive comments from this forum and decided to give it a try. I have followed the instructions 100%, from washing, to preparing the surface of the car with a clay bar prior to applying your polish. After 5 hours of hard painstaking labour, i achieved a very shiny, smooth and slippery finish on my car. With respect to maintenance, I read that the car should be washed regularly;about once a week with either water only or water and car detergent. As I have been going to a hand car wash place prior to applying the polish, I thought that i might continue. Your instructions was to make sure that the car detergent does not contain any waxes and I did check that this was the case before having the car washed. However, I noticed after the car was washed for the first time (approx 1 week after polish applied) that it no longer feels slippery (teflon like) to touch. The shine is still present but the slipperiness of the polished paint surface has gone. Is this normal as i did not have a chance to hand wash my car with water; the week following the application of your 5 star polish; so cannot compare. If it is not normal, do you know how i can rectify the situation or do i need to go through all the hard work in reapplying the polish again ?From what i can tell, the car wash place apparently hoses the car down with water using a high pressure hose before spraying a non wax type detergent and sponging down the car, and finally finishing off with a water rinse and chamois dry.My main worry is that the high pressure delivery of the detergent may have "stripped" or "debonded" the polymer coating of the polish, thereby removing the surface of it's slipperiness.Again, any advice or help is appreciated. Also, can regular members of this forum who have tried this product, tell me if they have experienced similar outcomes. i.e is the slipperiness still there. It seems that tree saps that fall on the car and road bugs are adhering more strongly to the paint surface than when i first applied the polish. Nowadays, the only way to remove things like this would be to use a sponge with car detergent.

Thanks in advance guys....

Hey how's it going? Sorry about the lack of response from the site, I'm on here regularly so feel free to PM me or post. Hopefully others will chime in too so I'm not the only one....

As far as the question about your finish not feelling slippery after a week, that is normal. None of the protection has deteriorated as a result of the washing.

Don't be concerned with a pressure wash... Our testing used a pressure washer over 150 different times with no loss in protection.

Some dirt/bugs will take a bit more elbow grease to get off (depending on how fast you were going when you hit them!) You can use a non wax detergent to wash if you like, but normal water and a mitt etc. works fine too.

If you do run into something that is really really stubborn, though super rare, use some clay and it will come off no problem......

Hopefully I answed well, let me know if you have more ?'s -Chad

Thanks for that quick post... I feel better knowing that the protection layer has not come off. As for washing, do u recommend using water only or car detergent and water ? ...as the car wash place recommends that detergent be used to act as a surfactant and prevents scratches to the paint surface whilst removing dirt. Finally does the protection coat last longer by washing with water only or will the soap shorten the lifespan of it ?

Thanks again.

Chad, does this product work in the same fashion for factory and/or chrome custom wheels? (I.E., shine, sealed, no real cleaning for years other than spray wash). Particularly I'm referring to all the work required to getting the brake dust off the front rims on foreign cars.

I ordered some a moment ago for the body...will report on my tests. Thanks in advance.

Hey... You can use 5 Star on chrome as well as painted wheels and even windows.... If you do decide to use it on chrome, clean it as well as you can...

Prep them just as you would paint.... Use a clay bar. They'll be a snap to keep clean after being treated with the 5 Star... Let me know if you have any more ?'s-Chad

topned, using a mild soap is ok and won't be a problem.

Being that you are going to a car wash remember that the solution they use is meant to cut grease and dirt etc. so it is probably harsher but it shouldn't be a problem... especially since the 5 star will protect against bird crap which can etch paint and give you problems. Hope that helps.....

Thanks for the quick reply. One more thing I'm not clear about. Say you picked up a brand new waxed car at a dealership today...would you have to remove the dealer wax before applying 5star, or do you go immediately to step 1 and 2?

I recently treated my dad's new Nissan Titan. We first washed it, used a clay bar on it, then washed it again and started the 5 Star process.

You want to strip the paint of all the previous wax etc before applying the 5 Star. New cars are typically poorly detailed and many new cars are transported via train and get train brake dust etc all over them... The clay bar will get rid of all that buildup..... And the solution 1 will continue the process of prepping the paint....
