Are you going to just use 1 wideband mounted in the testpipe? I'm thinking of using 2 sensors with a switch to change between them and just 1 display - and just keep it on the leaner of the 2 banks. But for tuning/diagnostic purposes, I have the ability to monitor both banks (not simultaneously obviously). Badass build, lots of high quality parts.

I am thinking about ordering the 2 bung test pipes just as extra insurance. But Greg said I would be fine with just one since I am going to be taking it easy until he comes tune it.

Agree?

And thanks man.

Yea, I think the test pipe would be fine..the best location is directly aft the turbo but given the (lack of) space, test pipes are the next most logical option.

When will he be over to tune it? I'm planning to continue my Z build next month after a long hiatus. Also, my brother is getting stationed in El Paso, so I'll be visiting somewhat close to LA sometime next year. It'd be amazing if I could haul my Z down to get tuned by the best in the business.

Which EPROM do you have - SZ? That's probably the best option - you could always tell them your list of mods and they'll give you an EPROM to get the tune close (they use actual tunes that are saved from previous customers with similar mods). Then get it dyno'd and send Greg the graphs with your EPROM to make adjustments. He and I discussed this option recently. But the more I think about it, the more I want to go with MAP ECU or a full standalone. One downfall is - Greg/Seb are predominantly used to Nistune, so one may have to look elsewhere to get the "very best" live tune. However, from what I've observed MAP ECU has a pretty user-friendly GUI so it wouldn't be unrealistic to learn how to tune it yourself. Decisions...

El passo is like 10 hours away from me though. But it would be awesome if you were willing to come down here.

Every thing except the internals that you see in my build were purchased through Greg. So when I bought my first invoice from him he picked the tune. Thats why he says it is going to be a very accurate tune.

I know that he uses tunes from pre existing dyno results this is exactly what we did.. I am a firm believer that SZ is the best option hence why he gets all my business.

Do you think you would be down to drive about 10 hours to come meet us so Greg can tune your car??

that would be a great feature, my Z was so stiff all the time my teeth felt like they would rattle out sometimes, or going over train tracks would almost send me to the chiropractor each time, just going 20mph even *lol*

Hang on, SZ Greg or Hitman Greg?

So when do you have it planned to actually be on the road and drivable? Hopefully by the end of summer to atleast get a good track run in?

I bought a mint condition Z w/ 51k miles on it that was passed down to a grandson and that grandson didn't know how to take care of a car at all and blew the motor...literally everything on the car is great condition (including the transmission, thankfully that survived).

So I found a '95 USDM motor and have been planning it out and doing a minor build on it before I shove it into the Z..and let me tell you..it is one of the most heartbreaking/stressful things EVER. You've got thousands of GREAT options to choose from (do I want cheap downpipes or SZ? Oh SZ has a 3" option for $250 more??) that will burn your wallet so hard you'll have charcoal where your asscheek once was.

What started as a simple "freshen up the motor" project has gone into around 500 HP, has cost me around $10k (you want to do it right, not cut corners to shave off a thousand) and I haven't even gotten to the injectors, intercoolers, brakes, or suspension yet..not to mention the painful decisions you have to make..that ball bearing turbo upgrade looks nice, eh? Plan on adding 5 bolt downpipes, ECU upgrade, intercoolers, injectors, manifolds, etc, to make it worth the money.

So to those that are watching this thread and thinking it's a piece of cake..you best applause 300ZXttZMAN for his great patience and motivation. You better be prepared to spend 2-3x the amount you thought you'd spend, if not more.

As for my build, it will be done in about 2 weeks after which will be the most rewarding thing I've ever done. I have never driven a twin turbo Z and I am making a jump straight from N/A to 500 HP TT (I wanted it that way). All of this will be 100% worth it and I will NEVER regret it. I have a feeling 300ZXttZMAN will feel the same way once he gets this Z on the road.

Well hello there noobie. I have to say this is a major reason why I am scared of Zs, because they are so dam hard to work on, engine in the car of course. Like I dont even want to do a waterpump on a 300zx. They can be expensive in the first place but the platform is great along with the beast of a motor. I give Mark huge props for doing a great time consuming job with quality parts and in good taste. I hope both of you get to where you need to be with a few bucks on the side. And what ever you do the first day you get on the road, DONT CRASH. Goodluck
