amazing thread... big props to the build.. makes me want to change my turbo dreams for the s14...

i love auto cross and miss it alot ( getting married, and car getting hit.. plus lack of funds for tires sucks ) i ran in sts here.. and had nationally ranked at the time guys in the same class as me they raped me by like 13 to 14 seconds every single time... so other words they could run a 1/4 track in the amount of time they had on me lol...

so are the konis a nice fit for the constant trastions that auto-x throws at em?

Update:

The project has been on hold since the beginning of June, when I moved to Indiana and couldn't get the car ready in time for the trip. I won'y be back to NY until the end of November, so my season has been over for some time. I came back home for a few days in July and drove in a rainy event at Seneca and did quite well. Again, these Dunlops do really well in the wet, and I am also quite impressed with them in the dry as well. I highly recommend them.

So, the new plan for next year will be prepping this chassis for an eventual SM KA-T setup in the future, but I also plan to do a few HPDEs as well. This may also end up being a DD if I decide to sell the S14 in the spring (I've decided that I will be unable to stop myself from modding the S14 and I can't afford to have 2 projects going at once, lol).

Here's what I plan to do:

-Strip the car down (pretty much to the unibody)-Patch rusty areas on framerails and engine bay-Sandblast rear subframe, differential, rear control arms, anything else that needs it, and repaint them-New undercoating to stop rust from happening again-Replace subframe bushings, control arm bushings w/ energy poly bushings-SPL adjustable arms (except lower control arms since I can't justify spending that much) so I can get rid of rear toe out and try to minimize rear bump steer-5-lug swap -Z32 front brakes-16X8 +25 MB Competiton wheels (clear Z32 brakes, lightweight, cheap, can reuse Dunlop Z1s)-Find a replacement for Whiteline front sway bar end links (which are crap, I should have listened, haha)-Possible oil cooler and aluminum radiator if I have enough funds-Make a more permanent intake with metal piping, not PVC, lol-Dry cell battery in the trunk

As far as making this car a DD I need to do the following:

-Hook up EGR and charcoal canister for inspection (expired 6/08)-Put on softer engine mounts, probably Nismo-Softer spring rates, maybe 350 lb/in front, 300 lb/in rear-Install stereo-Find some headlight assemblies that can actually be adjusted properly-Possibly swap out the Corbeau seat for an R32 GT-R seat-Install A/C since I will be back in Indiana next summer and it is 95 and humid every day-Fix exhaust leak and weld on new exhaust hangers

I see another few months of being cold and wet on the driveway this winter, but it will hopefully be worth it. As you see, I will not be touching the engine at all really, since I plan to do that stuff later when I go turbo. I want to really dial this chassis in, first.

SELL YOUR LEXUS. Seriously, keep the rusty s13 as the track car to abuse. Don't spend on restoring something old and dirty - you already have a clean s14.

I'm trying to sell the lexus...but interest has been really low, as in zero, lol. And I need to sell one of the 240s or else I will have no money to play with. I'd take a huge loss if I sold the s13, but I may be able to make a few bucks selling the s14. Financially, selling the s14 is the logical choice. The s14 is my 8th car, I'm 22. I obviously don't get too emotionally attached to my vehicles, lol. I don't know...we'll see what happens.

So you're not going to be around come summer time?

That's a bummer.
