Ok So I'm really new to the forums, I only really know a few members, but today I purchased my 240sx from Dante (sorry dont know your s/n). Anyways, It started when I was at his place, but after towing it home, she won't start. Checked the signal wire to the starter and I have no voltage. I did however clean that contact. I need to find some wiring diagrams for the lower wiring harness. The car sounded great and I was soooo pumped to drive it today. But anyways, the car needs some work. The wiring is a mess from a previous owner who did the swap. Dante was a stand up seller and showed me just about everything that was wrong. I applaud his honesty. I plan on starting major work 11/21 because thats the first oppurtunity I can get Didderson over here to check it out. I'll have more updates for everyone then. If anyone has links to the lower wiring harness diagrams that would be awesome so I can start doing some homework. Thanks in Advance for looking. Here are the pics I took so far of it.

Let me know what you think, and My other plans are to repaint the hood, roof and white trim on the rear. That will be in 2 weeks i think.

Check your fuses first, then your grounds, then wiring.Does the starter click?

No starter doesn't click, and I'm new to the 240's so I'm still trying to figure out what fuses are for the ignition, and where they are located.

Sell me your tails for $50 shipped. It will aid you in your search to get it to start. Stock tails are pretty cool anyway

well after reading his entire build thread i found this.

"Well for those of you who don't know already this car is for sale. The starter went out a couple of days ago right after I fixed the overheating problem. Plus I don't feel like doing any patch work on the frame, so its for sale and taking offers "

dont know if it got replaced but a starter on its way out could work every once in a while. theres somthing in there i cant remember whats its called but it sometimes gets stuck in the out position and doesnt retract back into the starter and basically it could get stuck or not get stuck thats why somtimes people bang there starters with a hammer and it will work. so the question is have you purchased a hammer?

Fuses are under the driver side kick panel and in the passenger side fuse box in the engine bay.

Stop being ***holes about the kouki tails guys. I've informed joel of his purchase and parts acquired.

We'll get this thing working again soon. The starter signal is apparently bad but I'd double check bc idk if the ground was alright when it was tested.

Sounds like a clean engine to start with, we need to find a reputable frame restorer.

Good to see your build thread joel. Subscribeddddddd ITS PEANUT BUTTER JELLY TIMEEEE WAAAAAOWWW WAOOOWW THERE U GO...

LOL thanks guys.....

The tails are never going up for sale, lol, I love the kouki tails. Um, yes Jeff, we met at the auto x, and No, sadly I am not dating anyone, but not looking either. Yeah Tom, I think that ground may have been bad when he was testing it. The car started like 5 or 6 times at Dante's place, so I really don't think its the starter. I'm leaning on bad wiring that wiggled in transport, and then shorted out when I went to start it. When I turn the key, I do get a click noise, but its near the fuse box inside the car, under the panel dash on the drivers side. IDK if that means anything or not. I will probably not do anything with her today, got alot of online class work to do. Maybe if I get anxious enough I'll go out and clean it up some.

Yeah, he did, he tried when I first met him, kept telling me to sell my Magnum and get a 240, and I told him I'd never own one, then after he got this second one, and I was around and followed his build thread, and got a ride in his, I was sold. These cars are highly underrated and under estimated by many. My old man was like, why did you buy a 4 cylinder car (he drives a Hemi Magnum) and I was like because its faster then yours and its working with less then half your displacement. But anyways, I figured I'd take a few pics for all you guys to see how fugly this wiring is.... Hope you are sitting down, maybe grab a beer or two, to get your beer googles on, I know when this guy swapped it, there was no way he was sober....because who in their right mind would leave it this messed up???

Well, made some progress today. I started out by double checking that signal wire for the starter. I used a 12v light tester, where you just see if there is voltage or not. Turned the key, nothing. So there is an issue somewhere. However, I checked all the inside fuses, 1 10 amp was blown, turned out to be the radio, which now works, and had a CD in it. Speakers in the rear appear to be blown, but they all still play. Sooooo.... If worst comes to worst, I got a big azz CD player out in my yard. I went and removed that stupid bell while I was under there, so much better having that gone. I didnt start on the fuses/relays under the hood because I'm not sure what to look for. Are they just giant fuses that are easy to tell if they are shot? Or are they relays, and if they are relays, how do I test them and verify they are working??

I just had a problem similar to yours recently. I traced it back to the starter relay( which is behind the passenger side headlight, and to the right of the fuse box. its blue). Get a 12v tester and make sure when you turn the key the relay is doing what it is suppose to.

Ok just checked the fusebox in the engine bay, the ignition switch fuse is a 30amp, and its fine. However, the fuse to the left of it, the 25amp ENG CONT is blown. I went to Advanced Auto only and they only have a 30amp. Anyone know if these are readily available anywhere, or does anyone have one they could sell me? I can post a pic if neccessary.

GET THE 25 YOU WILL BLOW SOMETHING WIT THE 30. If autozone doesnt have it try the dealer shouldnt be more than 10 bucks.

When i said the ignition switch i meant the actual switch. I was having the same problem. And kept over lookin the switch. what i did was bypassed it went straight to the start used relays and made a push button start.Let me know if this helps.

Ok so Tom and I were really looking over the car last night, and we found a few more issues that we can narrow down the problem. They used home depot splicers and butt connectors for most of this wiring harness. We found a wire that is no longer connected, and it looks like it leads to the starter signal wire....So, there may be my problem. I'm still planning on getting this fuse replaced. So now I have another issue, I noticed it, but didn't know it was a problem, but my ECU casing in none existant....It just the ECU, wide open. I def. have my work cut out for me, and I'm not turning the key until that ECU is covered, Tom wont let me lol. Tom also found enjoyment of wiggling my rear swiss cheese frame rail, and I was sticking my hand through the rear body panels. I'm on the fence whether to just get the car running, enjoy it, or get all the rust fixed and then drive it.
