So you thought chevy v8 engine swaps were out of place on a 240, fords are even worse, how about a LINCOLN? Got your attention?

So my brother has an 89 S13 coupe he bought for $350. Its in rough shape, needs to be fully re-done, mostly because the interior is doo-doo brown. Second mostly because there is NOTHING under the hood besides the brake booster and steering rack lol.

He wanted RB swap. Thats played out. Then he thought VH swap. Too expensive and transmission options are pointless. Then I saw this at the local pull-a-part:

Yes, thats a Lincoln mark 8. Yes, thats a ford modular v8. Yes, its all aluminum, dohc, 32 valve, and the block is cast in italy by a company that supplies blocks for ferrari, and the block itself is rumored to be capable of 1500 horsepower without any modification.

So after 2 days of knuckle busting, swearing profusely, sweating buckets, and throwing out my back, I exhumed the motor from its gravesite and test fit it in its new home:

So for all the haters that said the ford modular is too big, you should all agree now that the motor looks beautiful in there. The engine mounts are about 5" away from the stock location, it has plenty of room for the headers to be brought up and forward (more on that in a second), and with a front sump oil pan I should be able to get the stock hood to clear.

So, $350 for the car, $200 for the engine/accessories, and $1100 for this:

Brand new forged 8 bolt cobra crank out of the terminator, brand new terminator Manley forged H beams, and terminator forged pistons. This rotating assembly is good for 1000 hp on stock terminators.

I think I'm in pretty good shape so far. $5000 is the budget for the car and is definitely do-able.

As for the forward swept headers, its going to be turboed of course. Probably Holset HX50 or 55. I'm shooting for 500-600 horsepower until I get a built transmission for it. I'm going to start with a $700 Tremec 3650 until I save enough for a $2200 TKO-600. Then the skys the limit! The motor will be megasquirted to simplify things.

The car itself is getting an SW weld in cage, not sure what style yet and suitable racing seats and belts. The dash and stuff is getting dyed something other than doo-doo brown, the whole car is getting painted. I think we're trying to keep the style simple and sleeper-esque... provided you don't hear the v8 exhaust note or the honkin hair dryer spooling up front Strangely, my brother said that if it dynoed at over 500 to the wheels he would paint it pink, I hope he doesn't keep his word. Suspension will be whatever coilovers my brother wants as cheaply as possible, and wheels and tires are still unknown (I'm thinking 315s out back )

What do you all think? Are the mods gonna boot me now?

I hope so... we're going for something in the 9.3-9.7 range of the butt pucker gauge.

I used to care about how and what people do to their 240's. It really doesn't bother me no more. I like my 240 and my played out SR puts a smile on my face everytime I hit full boost. Once I move back to the US, I'm probably going to buy me a Vette. I appreciate all cars, except for Mustangs that is. Good luck on the swap.

any idea how much that motor set weighs?

I need to save that picture into the "240sx's can fit anything under the hood" folder. That thing looks huge.

Hows the exhaust going to breath? Not much room for headers or IC piping.... but I like the idea. Thats looks to be the complicated part. good luck.

This is HOT STUFF. Screw the 'purity of the brand.' They're all just afraid of what the mutants can do.

Thats funny right there, I don't care who you are

I have already figured out IC piping routing, it won't be that difficult actually. The easiest way is to actually go under the engine and then back up near the firewall because the throttle body is actually on the rear of the engine. So the run from the turbo to the intercooler will basically be straight down with a couple 90s, the pipe from the intercooler will be straight back and then straight up and then a 180 straight down again. I should be fine getting just 90s and straight pipes and welding it all together (except for the joints that need to flex of course).

One thing I'm looking for is a way to positively secure my throttle body to a charge pipe. Essentially its a twin 57mm blade TB with a round oval opening. The sides of the opening are smooth and would need some help gripping a charge pipe. Where can I find 90 degree bend couplers and clamps that can conform to this strange shape? The worst part is the TB faces straight up, so if there isn't an immediate 90 bend out of the way the charge pipe is going to have to go through the hood

I want to see this thing in action! A cobra motor in a 240? Yes thank you!

What rear end are you going with? Or will the stock rear end handle that beast?

I'd add more smileys, but I'd rather not, considering consequences that follow shortly after xD.

Anyways, definitely anticipating the build, please keep us posted.

The stock R200 should do fine, if (when?) it blows up, its going to get ZXTT R230 diff. I figure the 230 should be able to stand up to some real punishment.

Still though, the R200 should be fine for rolls and drifting or whatever. I think if we go to the strip with it its going to be on street tires anyways so I'm not to worried about snapping stuff constantly.

I support the 4.6 DOHC swap and hope you complete it but it is not what I would do. There are many differences in Ford/Lincoln 4.6 DOHC from 1996-2004.

How is it different? I thought the quad cam 4.6s were basically the same. Is it a teksid block?

Wow! This is a first for me, I really like the idea instead of having a f****n sadass LSx. I really hope you are able to complete this mission, it looks like a colossal project.

I do remember someone making a thread about this a few months back, it got ugly though and never attempted.
