Warning: There are some "Hospital pics" below

well thursday (jan 8th) i was driving on a 2-lane highway, heading south at about 45mph, and a chevy astro van heading north decided to turn to his left (west) across my lane, only didn't wait for me to pass. i pretty much hit head-on with his front passenger corner. the force pushed the van into the ditch, and my car jumped in the rear and spun almost 180*. i hit the windshield with my head and right elbow, and SEVERELY broke my right leg near the ankle, both bones were protruding through the skin.

just got home from the hospital, still stuck in bed for the next week though. after seeing the car in person since the wreck, i feel i'm lucky to be here. i was conscious during the entire accident and remember the whole thing, and due to this i really don't think i'm going to get any more older sports cars, or anything smaller than my 4runner. even during the ride home, i had a constant claustraphobic feeling in the legspace area. this is going to take some getting over, i know there's going to be a few mental issues to come from this.

ALL of the damage down the passenger's side of the car was due to buckling, there was NO contact with anything on the passenger side. the impact was entirely frontal.

ouch!! atleast your still alive. after my car accident i felt a little uneasy on the road for a few days but it passed. i was in a car that slid sideways into a tree at 65mph. though i only came out with a cut on my head and a torn leg muscle. i pretty much walked away sort of, i was on the same side that hit the tree. hope you recover soon man!

the car did exactly what it was designed to do. It kept the passenger area intact. And it looked like aside from poor passenger restraints. I am really going to make some modifications in terms of safety. Glad to see you're ok. That looks nasty.

wow everyone here falls into the rest of the Sue happy crowd, give it a damn break. I'm Glad to hear that your alive but I by no means think its any reason to give up on sports cars. I think you should get back in one as soon as you can, the horse threw you off once, you dont just give up, get on it and ride bro.

Damn good to see that you're ok. Could have been a lot worse, you are lucky to have not sustained any injuries to your spinal column from your head going into the windshield. Get well soon.

other driver had no insurance, a 21yo dishwasher at ruby tuesday. i have uninsured motorist coverage with nationwide, and i'm waiting to see what they are willing to easily cover before deciding on further action. i'm not looking to get rich on "pain and suffering" settlements, but if i'm out of work 3 months, i'm out $15,000. i have a house note to pay, car note on the wife's versa, our insurance, electricity, etc. and i don't feel i should lose anything because of someone else's negligence. i really would only expect about $2800 for the 240, $15k in lost income, and whatever the medical expenses end up totaling.

i'm not sue-happy, but will do what i have to do.

Damn glad you wern't any more severely hurt, hope you heal man. Only good food in the hospital is ice cream lol.

Would like to hear what happened to the other guy too.Would I sue him in your case? I don't know it's a common mistake I've probably made a few times but thankfully I've never been hit. I don't know whatever feels right I guess..

he had a cut above his ear, and they called in a plastic surgeon to stitch it up. they carried him in the same ambulance with me to the E.R., he was apologizing the entire time. he was discharged before i was even out of surgery, and stayed admitted another 5 days.

Glad you're ok, sucks about the car, but like stated, it did what it was suppose to do. I bet you'll wear your seatbelt next time...

Did he even get charge from the police? Sorry or not he's at fault and driving without insurance? Someone gotta pay.

Wow. I guess like everyone else said. The car did perform accordingly.

Glad to see that you are in a decent condition, and didn't forget your fellow niconauts!!

God if I had just hit you and rode in the same ambulance with you. I would probably cry apologizing. I hope I never have to do what he did.

Or, for that matter, go what you've gone through. But again - glad to know your doing somewhat well!!

Maybe while finding harnesses we can get you a roll cage too!
