Fox recon vehicle from the UK

Image

You can buy them now that they've been retired from service. There's a tracked version (the Sabre) but can't imagine using it. Anything you'd want is going to in an urban area anyway...and anyone that's ever had to fix a jammed or broken track already knows what a PITA that is, even with no zombies around. ;)

Are they available for sale to civilians yet? That's why I picked the Fox. Be sweet just have a Bradley but can't really imagine having to work on it. More space than a Fox though. And the gunports on the sides make everyone able to get involved when the shooting starts.

If we're going with newer vehicles I'd take a LAV 25 over a Bradley (and that's coming from an Army guy!) for practicality reasons. LAVs are lighter, faster and have a greater range. The Bradley can hold more people though, and does have a built in air filtration system (who knows what made the zoms in the first place). Just remember what I said about breaking down and clearing a track...it's a PITA.

I'm going to stick with my Combat Engineer roots and throws these options into the fray...

Image

The Buffalo, can withstand IED's plus it has a giant fork on the end of a hydraulic arm for zombie killing fun. Can hold 6 people, downfall is it only gets 3.5 miles to the gallon, so with a full tank (85 gallons) you can only get about 300 miles to the tank.

Image

The Cougar fighting vehicle, it's a Buffalo minus the forked arm, in replacement you get remote controlled M240's, several camera's to give you a full 360 view and increased passenger capability (holds 12). Comes in either 4x4 or 6x6 variants plus increased range (up to 600 miles per tank).

Image

Minewolf anti-mine vehicle, it's armored so zombies can't get in, just engage the front shredder and drive forward. Only holds 1 - 2 people depending on which version you get, on the plus side it is available to civilians.

Here's a link to the manufacturer where you can watch videos of it in action... http://www.minewolf.com/products/minewolf-mw370.html

Image

The Grizzly, the new Combat Engineer Vehicle for the US Army, based on the M1 Abrams, it has the same armor as the Abrams, but has been equipped with a plow, flails, or a shovel for mine clearance, building tank emplacements, and creating fast obstacles. Some models are also fitted with machine guns and an anti tank/bunker gun.

How technical are those behemoths to drive? I'm sure more so than three pedals and a steering wheel.

Dumb question but what happens when these armored gas guzzlers run out of gas? Are you expecting zombie free gas stations?

I would choose this because driving it makes me feel dead inside so the zombies might think I am one of their own and leave me alone.

Yes the Buffalo get's 3.5 MPG, the Cougar gets 9 MPG, the Grizzly gets .6 MPG it will burn 12 gallons an hour just idling...

http://www.treehugger.com/files/2008/09 ... ileage.php

As far as how technical these are to drive, they're military vehicles, so they have to use the KISS principle, the M1 Abrams is about the most complex to drive land vehicle the military has, but even it's simple enough for a dog to drive, the on board computers take the difficulty out of it. Trust me, the hardest part about driving these things is taking their size in to account and understanding what they are capable of doing. Needless to say you aren't parallel parking these things anywhere, but who needs to do that when you can just run over pretty much anything that gets in your way.

Just do a youtube search for MRAP
Edit...

Bubba, these use off road diesel, so who needs a gas station when you can just fill up at any construction yard, land fill, or train depot. Anywhere that has fuel tanks for construction vehicles, boats, or any sort of off road diesel is good.

But wouldn't there be zombies potentially at any of those locations?

There's a potential for zombies anywhere, but really if you have any of the vehicles I mentioned would it really matter, you can pretty much neutralize any zombie threat or wait them out. Just park it next to the tank and sit there until the zombies go away and then gas and go.

This is why I'd mount several semi tank to the roof of my vehicle with an exo cage.I'd fill up as long as possible(or until i emptied the tanks) and drive on.I figure with 4 100 gallon tanks and a 40 gallon factory tank i could range around 4,400 miles on 440 gallons of fuel at 10mpg which i almost guarantee i could do better.

The young using age as an insult is amsusing. With age comes wisdom. More for some than others. But youth doesn't come with anything except a broken stupid switch that won't toggle off most of the time.

But don't worry. You'll probably be 13 for the rest of your life, so you have nothing to fear.

(Yes, I'm going to be one GRUMPY a** old guy. Get off my lawn.)

With age also comes a host of things I'd hate to have. Wisdom is age-independent. With experience comes wisdom. Of course, it's hard for a 13 year old to have experiences.
