But with age also frequently comes the ability to afford many things you WANT to have but couldn't afford when you were younger.

Stupid question... You ever been on a construction site? They generally don't have power so the diesel is stored either in a fuel truck or in an above ground tank powered by a generator. Same goes for quarry's, scrap yards and anywhere that has vehicles that run on off road use only diesel. When was the last time you saw a backhoe or dozer filling up at the gas station? Which is why a diesel vehicle is the way to go when considering an escape/survival vehicle. Plus if you have one capable of off road driving you can pretty much ford a river as long as you attach a snorkel attachment to the air intake system.

It'd be some kind of sailboat with an engine for me. Big enough for several people. If I need storage space I'll just string along a raft behind me. Zombies can't swim, but they can walk underwater...so even after the initial plague runs it's course there will be zombies appearing on beaches all over the world. Don't know where I was going with that...

I think you were trying to say that even though the initial outbreak might be area specific the virus will spread not just across the country but around the world because the zombies will just walk along the ocean floor to other countries...

The aircraft carrier is by and far the best alternative, they are floating cities and with just a handful of survivors you can live on a fully stocked for several years.

Last time I checked zombies didn't use anti-ship missiles.

I never said they rode around in submarines or anything. This could happen a number of ways. Random fire on board, giant waves, iceburg...
