The Subway I go to keeps RUNNING OUT OF CHICKEN. And the week before that, they had no tomatoes. I would have asked to speak to the owner of the franchise, but he was the one making my sandwich.

websites themselves are incapable of sucking. unfortunately the people that make them up are.

dont believe me? check out alec bradford's ('90silvia) review thread over there. he has been revealed to have scammed so many people for hundreds (more like thousands) of dollars and people still stick up for him and talk **** about those who got screwed.

before i bought anything from him i used the review thread over there to judge whether or not it would be wise to do business. i wish i had researched what OTHER forums had to say because the difference in his feedback on Z ilvia and anywhere else (aside from mine) is like night and day.

Well, this nincompoop isn't going to whine about freedom of speech... .

I completely see your view from a business standpoint, makes complete sense... I think that's where people like me, yokota, etc are getting hung up. We are seeing it (at least I see it) as a community forum: members first, then business.

Nico & "other forums" are all car forums. People link from here to there, and people link from there to here. The majority of people don't have a problem with either/any forum, just chosen members here and there. But when one forum decides to censor out the other one completely, it pus a funny feeling in my stomache, as well as makes life a little bit harder for the average enthusiast, around which I believe Nico is built.

Nico, as great as it is, does not always have all the info that is currently available. For example, the first time I ran into this problem a couple days ago when I was trying to help a fellow niconaut get information on putting possibly dot legal aftermarket projectors (hella 50mm like clear corners uses, was suppose to be legal for all states) into silvia headlamps. This write up was only available on "the other forums".

From an enthusiast's standpoint, I find it disheartening that Nico would resort to this kind of censorship, which although good for business, feels like it is hurting its own members.

I have talked with a couple SEO (Search Engine Optimization) friends, and there are ways to set up redirects/linking patterns that wouldn't help "other forums" as much/at all, but still provide linking when necessary. I'm looking into alternatives as we speak, that's if you are interested.

You're right, Q to the V. We *could* set up "nofollow" tags, but it's a huge PITA.

It'd be one thing if the "others" could reciprocate somehow, but they simply can't.

I also have a real problem with sites that REQUIRE you to be a member to view the content.

That's completely self-serving, and we'll never go that route. There's always more than one side to every situation.

To be fair, "the others" have linked to several of our tech articles .

That's one of the biggest problems I have w/ one of the other forums also, I absolutely hate that. But I guess when it's a smaller site, they need more members to help pay for more bandwidth. They have fixed a few sections.

Talked w/ my SEO guru friend. The thing that will rocket nico up the most (from where it's at already), is better & more written tech articles w/ plenty of goodie search terms for the search engines to gobble up. Like my "240sx fender rolling" article was #1 for a few weeks when it was getting hits, now it's #7 on Googly. That's just from writing an article. On a larger scale, almost anything 240sx related will popup nico, if it hasn't already. If I remember correctly, my alternator upgrade tutorial was up there for a while too.

Many ways to skin a cat. Many many ways.

Be prepared for some oil cooler & transmission cooler articles.

Yep - Good stuff.

You'll notice more and more of our stuff from 240sxTech.com is making it onto Google Base, as well as Digg and other article sites.

We're cranking out articles as fast as we can, but oftentimes that takes a backseat to other, more necessary work.

I'm putting in 16-18 hour days, as is Matt, and we won't stop even when we hit the top.

I gotcha beat - My favorite Subway was OUT OF BREAD the other night.

I needed 3 footlong BMT's and a 6" Cold Cut Trio, and the kid started pulling out mix&match halves of flat, old bread...

I said, "Whoa, Chief. Where's the footlong Parmesan Oregano bread?"

"Uhhh, we're out of that."

"OK, how about Italian Herb & Cheese?"

"Nope. Outta that too."

"Well, whatcha got?"

"I got four 6" pieces of wheat, two 6" Honey Oat and a footlong white bread."

"Later."

I deffinitly agree its hitmans forum and your not guarenteed freedom of speach....

But I agree with QV onQuote »Nico & "other forums" are all car forums. People link from here to there, and people link from there to here. The majority of people don't have a problem with either/any forum, just chosen members here and there. But when one forum decides to censor out the other one completely, it pus a funny feeling in my stomache, as well as makes life a little bit harder for the average enthusiast, around which I believe Nico is built.[/quote]I think it rediculous that we would censor their name. OK it gives them some small amount of promotion, but who on here doesn't know them already? being able to link to the other forum makes it easier to help our members bottom line.

It is very weak to block one of our members, or even a guest who is reading the forum from information they are looking for simply because it is not hosted on your forum. Ive heard many times from you and other staff members that Nico is here to help enthusiasts. I would like to see this desire to help and inform placed higher then worrying about if another member is linked to there from here.

The fact that you personaly dont agree with requiring members to register doesn't help the person who couldn't get the information they needed because the link didn't work.
AZhitman wrote:...It'd be one thing if the "others" could reciprocate somehow, but they simply can't...
Is it not also self serving to block or hinder some ones access to information because the other site will not recipricate?

whoa double-post!?

there is not a single gd reason we should or shouldnt change their name on this forum. just because you guys are experienced and smart to what happens here vs. there doesnt mean that our newbie friends are.

they could see the name here in their warm safe enclave of information and fair moderation and almost nonexistent number of scamming pricks and venture out into the world of evil that lies beyond.

seriously.

You don't think the fact that any helpful article on the site cannot be linked to from Nico counts?

I did all my research for stuff on helicals here, but at the time we didn't have much at all, and the only thing that helped me were a few links I found to other Nissan sites. Dean linked me to a place or two also. I don't read/visit other Nissan sites so I had missed these, and had the links been changed I would have not been able to find any help from Nico on the matter.

I mean we might not know the answer, but we can at least point you to some one who does. Or at least I thought we could, apparently that would now require a private email or im....and while Ill post a helpful bookmark for some newb I don't know, I probably wouldn't go to any great length to get it to them.

I do agree there isn't a single good reason though

Honstly even considering your arguement to be true d!ck don't you think we should error on the side of less censor ship? Since when should you censor things just because their is no reason not to?

Maybe.

And I could be wrong.

It's happened before. People used to think we were stupid for not charging a membership fee. They also said it was stupid to branch out beyond 240sx's and cover other Nissan vehicles. They said we'd never grow beyond 1,000 members. They said we should make people register to access the forums.

Sometimes we're right, sometimes we're wrong. But I can live with that.

BTW, if you absolutely think there's this massive treasure trove of "mystery info" somewhere else, that we can't provide to our people, let me know.

I'll make sure we do a full DIY article, with pics, even if I have to pay for the parts myself and do the mod on my own car.

I noes!!!!!!! Subway has terrible customer service. One time this girl I work with and I went to eat there and they overcharged her card and wouldn't pay the overdraft fee for their mistake. I needless to say stopped going to Subway.

But we both know its not some major section that we missed. Its just random things...Some times you will goto search and its just something thats not widely used or though of....

Im sure Moyaa (I got that wrong, I cant remember all these names) found little here when he was doing all the research for the paddel shifted 240. Sure we have all the info here now, but thanks in part to research he did elsewhere, and I put money on the fact that at least some of what he found on other forums was link to him by members.

As I said another example was my helical diff. Dean linked me to a few places when I was having trouble finding adequate info here.

We have little on ECU tuning here, and I have often seen people referred to Devious' forum for a more specialized community.

Again I think its much better to maintain the fact that We can give you an answer or point you to where you can find it. That way Nico can always help you rather then simply telling you "Well its on some other website, find it your self"

Ive had to do this at jobs when we had problems with the water supply, or broken equipment(i.e. broken freezers, power out ect...)

Sadly, the 24-hour Blimpie's near my house closed a year ago. It also doubled as a doughnut shop.

That's because ZlLVIA has ONE thread on introduction posts like that. They also don't have "Official Aztec Red 240sx thread" and some colors that aren't even stock, and other bull**** threads like that.

I signed up for this forum before I did ZlLVIA and I liked NICO alot, I have 1000+ posts here, mostly helping people out. I frequented both forums alot, but then I just decided to stick with ZlLVIA because of the "structure" we have over there. We get straight to the point and are strict with our members, and our rep system works to keep others in check and to weed out the lamers/ricers whatever you wanna call them.

Honestly, I loved going to this forum. It has a wealth of info, but the quality of threads has gone downhill.

I could care less what you think of me, but censoring ZlLVIA is just pathetic. Yea, me might have come on here to ridicule you guys, but c'mon now... you don't want your members to click over to ZlLVIA? Scared you might lose some over to that side? Over there, we could give a flying rat's *** about NICO. I've told some people over there that were mad at our forums to come here if they didn't like ZlLVIA. They came back a couple days from that.

My $0.02

P.S. Jesda's pants really freak me out.

Haha its funny all the things I hear about Subway cuz its all VERY VERY true. That's the thing that sucks when companies are franchised cuz the owner can seriously do whatever he wants and u kno what he usually does? He pays the workers like crap and ull NEVER see him, oh yeah don't forget most of the time they're too cheap to hire managers so that's why u get all this BS from the employees cuz u kno what? There is no managers so we are the managers.

I tried to give the customers what they wanted but u kno what happened? I got b*tched at for wasting too much products so u know what I did? Everything that u guys just said. Sorry guys.

To give u guys a heads up do NOT go there in the morning when they barely opened cuz owners are too cheap to pay the workers to come before store hours to open so they start OPENING exactly when the store opens. The samething for night time DO NOT go there when they're going to close, the boss is too cheap to pay them to close after store hours. Best time to go is during Lunch rush around 12pm and dinner time 5pm.

It's funny even tho I got payed like crap I still made a lot of money, especially when I left. How'd u expect I got my cool rides.
