Let me start by saying that sometimes things are done here without consulting the general populace, especially when the general populace doesn't know much about the topic (yokota, I'm looking at you, since you ***** so damn much without knowing wtf you're talking about).
Here's the long and short of it, I'll try to keep it interesting, prepare to be educated:
In assessing some of our search engine results, we noticed that a lot of smaller, less-active forums, with less information, were ranking awfully high for certain terms...
Digging deeper, and doing some research on their stats, revealed that an awful lot of their "link juice" was coming FROM here.
Kind of a case of "a rising tide lifts all boats" (or however that stupid analogy goes).
Certainly not something the other forums can reciprocate, so we figured, "Why let them mooch off our traffic and standings?"
It's interesting how we have a rep for being the "n00b" forum... 240sx.org celebrates its 10th birthday this year (yep, 10 years running), and 240sxTech.com has more tech info than 90% of the small boards out there.... Then again, people throw a tantrum if they're not "spoon-fed", so perhaps that's where the perception comes from.
At any rate, I hope that clears up some misconceptions for you guys.
(Oh, and the next nincompoop to whine about "freedom of speech" without knowing what the hell they're talking about is gonna get a "custom title" )
