If we didn't have the need for firemen then obviously no one would ever have to deal with the pain of losing their home, business, or possibly family members.

Most Policemen I see are doing "nothing" ... and I'm glad.
That depends on how you look at it. Remember that your tax dollars are paying them

Yeah, I am a little bit more grateful, but not much.

It's a mixed feeling. They were called to duty when my firends house was on fire, that was good.

They came to my house and harrassed me when I was burning a pile of wood. That was bad.

That sucks. My friends and I would play with fireworks and Ronsonol and WD40 and lighters, matches, torches...whatever, all year long when we were younger. We made lots of movies with legos, fireworks, fire, and death. It was fun. Never once saw a fireman...never burned anything more than I intended to either.

Too all that ready this(other than PMQ), I am sorry for what I am going to say. I am a Firefighter and I have a right to be mad!

PMQ; I was going to quote all them things you are severely mistaken about but I don't have 2 years.

First, YOU DON"T KNOW ****!!

If you would like me to explain what you were wrong about, email me: [email protected] and I will tell you.

I agree with you about the pizza man thing but everything else you said is that was just due to old technology, we have strobe light sensors here and only lights on emergency vehicles can activate it.

If you still feel that you are right about all that you said, you are welcome to come to my firehouse and voice your opinion and not hide behind your SN. Here is the Address: North York Boro Fire Dept 50 E 11th Ave York, PA 17404

You really should shut-up when it comes to subjects you know nothing about!!

Thank YouChad

And tell me, why is it illegal?

Maybe the fireman can chime in about this.

Did you know that in Hillsborough County, the one that I live in, it is illegal to have ANY fire. You can't even have a BBQ legally!

Now, two counties up, you can burn whatever the hell you want, however large.

Was the fire open or in a barrel or pit of some kind? Did you notify the fire dept? Did you check the laws about when you can burn? Did you do anything that might show you have half a brain?? You are one of those people who blame the cops when you get caught breaking the law, aren't you?

You broke the law!! BE A MAN!!

Paemt6220, Just so you know, this is a really old post. We have all given him down the road on it, alot. I am a former volunteer fire fighter as well, and now I dispatch.

PMQ cant help it. We try to educate him and change his warped ways of thinking through presistance, kindness, and caring.

Dont we PMQ?

And I do actaully like him, most of the time.

I know its old, I kept telling myself not to read it but people had to keep bringing it to the top and I just couldn't hold back anymore!

I'll try to understand that he is just an . But he is a NICO and because of that I'll forgive him!

That invitation still stands though if you're ever in the area!!

PoorManQ45 wrote:Um... So, you think that theyt live at the station? That is completely, utterly, wholey Untrue. Guess what, almost every single day, I see a fire truck, with full crew, parked at a near by grocery store. And no they didn't just park the truck there. They are inside shopping for food! And just wait, it gets even better, they are on the "clock" when they're at the grocery store! OMFG, getting paid to shop. And did you know that firemen are paid to sleep? On an average shift, which is 24hours on, 24hours off, a fireman will sleep about 8~10 hours/1. What a life. Getting paid to sleep!

You know what I'm going to do about it? I'm going to become a fireman. Then I can gain an extra 50~100Lbs, because I'm working so damn hard . Have you ever wondered why most firemen are over weight?

Just so you know, my uncle is a fireman.

I know this may upset most people, but please tell me what the firemen did on 9/11/01 that makes them heros? I know that they were "willing" to risk their own lives to try to save others, but that's their job.

I will call a single fireman a hero when I see them do something truely heroic, but to make broad sweeping generalizations that all firemen are heros is just plain insane
Stop talking about something you're obviously ignorant about.

For the past seven weeks I've been participating in a program being put on by our Fire Department for several various citizens (media, city government, and education). I have more respect for Firefighters than I would have thought possible. These men do work that is utterly impossible for 90% of the population. You are a generalizing, stereotyping @$$ that is doing nothing other than spouting your ignorant trash all over the Internet out of sheer boredom and stupidity, and a lack of desire to actually educate yourself.

Oh, and just a quick word about the physical aptitude test you have to take upon entrance, and annually.

In full turn-out gear (boots, pants, full coat, balaclava, helmet, SCBA), ends up at about 60-75 pounds, depending on the size of the individual.

1. Raise an extension ladder four stories.2. Run up four flights of stairs with a coiled hose over your shoulder3. Pull a full hose with nozzle (about 60 pounds) to the top of the building (via a rope)4. Run downstairs, and there's a sledge and a 60 pound block of iron sitting on a metal sled. You have to hit the thing 3 feet with the sledge.5. Run 75 feet, to another hose with nozzle, and carry it 75 feet back.6. Run 25 feet to where the 150 pound dummy is, pick him up, and carry him 50 feet backwards.

You've got nine minutes. That's just the test to see if you can apply.

Yes. I call them heros.

The reason they're all at the grocery store - you see, they kind of live at the Fire Department, which means they have to cook. Firefighters are demanding about that whole being able to eat thing.

Sounds tough

So then, do they do this test on a regular basis for people who are already firemen?

Think of it like old people driving. For some reason they arn't required to get their vision and driving skills checked, but we all know that they need to be.

Yes, it's annual once you're in.

And yes, it's hard. I'm in phenomonal shape - 5'5", 150 lbs, all solid. I run the 3 in about 15 minutes, and I'm pretty damn athletic. I managed to get done with the thing in 7 and a half minutes, and I nearly killed myself doing it.

I guess their record is 2 minutes and 45 seconds.
