Post

The board has been a little slow lately so I figured I would post some stuff up of what I've done this winter in hopes of generating conversation.

Wiring (clean-up in aisle 25)First things first, when I completed my swap and got it running after the rebuild, I didn't care what things looked like as long as it ran and functioned. With that being said, I couldn't stand the way my wiring was run for my e-fans, which were ON all the time, nor could I stand how the stock harness was 3 ft too long for the S-chassis. So one of my goals was to clean up the wiring mess and get it under control to make it less noticeable. Ideally, I would have cut and soldered every connection together, but instead I just folded the harness over on itself to save hours of soldering fun.

Before

During

After (still not quite finished, but closer)

After the main harness wiring was tackled, I added a DiF fan controller and rewired my fans. To achieve the ultimate "baller" status, I went ahead and wired the car for A/C to work and for the fans to kick on when the A/C kicks on. Thanks to 300Plus for helping me through that. Now I can get the gf to ride with me this summer!

Exhaust ManifoldAs you all know, my horsepower goals are high now that I have the motor built. So, I had to upgrade the turbo and didn't want to half-a$$ it so I sized up a T04Z and realized that a new exhaust manifold would be required. The 6Boost manifold was just being considered by US RBers so it was perfect timing. With much delay through customs due to a shipping company F*** UP, the manifold finally arrived. Honestly, it is beautiful. The welds are perfect and the collector welding is as clean as I've ever seen. At this point in the project, I was waiting to get my 44mm Tial WG to see how it fit before getting things welded onto it and ceramic coating it.

However, one place that it does not fit is the oil return line from the front of the head. I will be replacing that line with a SS -10AN line anyways, so no biggy.

T04ZAs I said before, I decided on a T04Z since the flow/pressure points in my calcs run right down the middle of the compressor efficiency chart.

Intake ManifoldOn the intake side of the motor, I bought a Greddy Intake Manifold and ordered 650cc injectors from Deatschwerks. My power is limited by my SupraTT fuel pump which can only pump 650cc/min per injector at the boost I want to run. When I need more fuel than that, I will have to upgrade the entire system. That is next year's project since I'm running out of funds this year. I am testing out the new Gizzmo phenolic intake manifold gasket so hopefully it will provide some insulation from the heat of the head. OH! and I rewired the injector harness to tuck the wires below the manifold.

IntercoolerHad to do some cutting to get this big boy to fit. It is about 24x12x4 and has 3-inch piping associated with it. Thanks Scott! This thing is BAD! Got it mounted up and decided to buy a new Origin Stylish bumper instead of cutting up my stocker to force fit it. (Someone please buy my OEM bumper) I'm waiting on couplers and other stuff to line piping up. This part of the project is still in the works, so no major progress yet.

Power SteeringThis was my second favorite part of this winter besides the exhaust manifold because I have hated the S14 power steering line since I first made the swap. It was always catching on the radiator and condenser every time I tried to remove either. Caused me to scratch things, struggle unnecessarily, and generally PISS me off! So I gave it the axe and yanked it out. Good riddance you bastard. I haven't 100% finished it yet, but I'm waiting on a PS fitting and than it will be done real quick.

Before

After

GaugesI decided to add an oil pressure and oil temperature gauge with sandwich adapter to more closely monitor temperature. The PFC hand controller displays coolant temp so I didn't feel that another water temp gauge was necessary. So I invested in some Defi Blue Racer gauges because I didn't want to shell out for the Link unit and more expensive gauges even though they look cooler IMO. Honestly, who doesn't buy gauges for the looks of them? I haven't put a lot of time into wiring these up so I just slapped them in the pod and set them where they will be mounted.

Gauge Pics(pics coming soon) Haven't uploaded them yet. Later tonight probably.

Good write up! yeah I've gotta do something about my wiring as well, it becomes so damn messy once you start adding a bunch of 12v powered items to it.....

It would be really nice if we could get a good deal of these RB's running this year and have a bit of a meet/track day.

Darius, are those Powersteering specific SS lines and hose ends? Different pressure ratings between the hoses available might be an issue, no?

When I did mine there were P/S specific items from Earls that were used.

BTW, I love the T04Z, as does RB's!

Thanks for the compliments guys. I'm going to try to update this as I continue on this spring.

Coolwhip - I am using Russell Powerflex hose rated to 3500psi with Powerflex hose ends so I'm assuming they are rated accordingly. The low pressure side is basically under no pressure (<10 psi). The Russell fitting is the high pressure fitting that I'm waiting on to finish the whole PS modification. It will look so much cleaner when it is finished.

Holy wiring mess Batman!

Looks like some good progress Darius! I am interested in the effectiveness of those Phenolic gaskets.

Just received news that my new front bumper will be delayed until early May, so that's not good. BUT it will give me time to figure everything else out before having to deal with the cosmetic stuff. I got all of my braided lines and fittings yesterday, so my weekend will be filled with bloody finger tips from handling the SS ends. Should look good when it is done though.

What bumper? JDM?

Wear some nitrile gloves, not full proof but they help.

Looking good man. Are you running any kind of relays or selenoid to run power to your accessories?

I wired in a Selenoid and a relay bank for my electric fans, Fuel pump, all my gauges, boost controller, and since my launch control it runs power to my coils also.

I really need to go buy more gloves, I wear them all the time, but ran out a week ago when I did most of the SS fitting assembly.

I don't have any special relays or solenoids to turn stuff on/off. My fuel pump is wired with the factory wiring harness, the fans are run through the DiF fan controller which is basically a smart relay. Power to that is supplied via a fused 30A wire where the battery line connects to the fuse box. Gauges are just going to run off of switched power from whereever I can find it under the dash.

Bumper will be top secret until I get it painted and installed.

Please remove that pic from this thread before you expose the secret to everyone. And how did you know I was going with that same spoiler AND paint color? You must have ESPN.

Just a gut instinct I had, so I went with it.

I think my favorite part of the whole project is that I will finally be able to close my hood. My coworkers know I spend a lot of time on my car and the only thing any of them ever ask is "why does your hood stick up?" OMG I've spent over $30k on the thing and that is the only thing they say. This summer should get a little different reaction from them.

I decided it was not necessary right now so I put it on hold until next winter. Not enough funds to go there.

gotcha, yeah, its not really needed unless you plan to track it, which I plan to do, so forking over dough is a must. I'll post pics of my **** tomorrow most likely as long as I remember my camera.

What else are you doing currently, intake plenum, obviously new IC piping what else?

lol gotta love Thirsty Thursdays.

Turbo lines are a pain in the ***, the wastegate is as well(v-band clamp is a royal slut you will discover this), so is mounting the turbo, (at least mine I wish my housings connected with v-bands). My exhaust manifold is a ***** to put on as well, not much room for big arms and hands....

keep us updated!

Hey Darius,

I already have the high pressure line sorted out, but I decided to dump my stock PS cooler and lines. *(pissing me off)**What fitting did you use for the rack (low pressure/ cooler side) ?I've never seen those type of fittings in any hardware store and I can't find anything on summit racings site.

If possible could you hook me up with the part # for the fitting.

I'm actually not sure because it came with my Perma-cool PS cooler kit. I was originally going to try to use the stock flare fitting but it was too long and I couldn't get the SS to bend in that tight of a radius. Was a weird flare fitting too. So I tried the one from Perma-cool and it threaded in perfectly with some Teflon.
