Well i have the mckinney kit, sitting right next to me. And by looking at all the pictures of nights mounts, despite our "issues" my opinion is not biased at all. though he will think so.

You get what you pay for.

simple as that.

Or run a string from one strut tower to the other over the highest point of the engine?

So the McK mounts don't drop the engine and pull it back a bit? Which car, specifically? S13 or 14?

Well, thats a mouth full. The main problem here is we have a failure to communicate. The mounts i make, clear the swaybar, allow use of a arched strut tower brace and you do not have to dent the firewall. I (TopHatPerformance), never said a single thing about using a stock down pipe, elbow or any kind of stock exhaust. Truth is ive never tried to use that stuff. If in my statements i said you didnt need to cut a hood brace to use stock manifold,(dont think i did), then i appologize for that because ive never did an install with the factory intake since we started making our own mounts. We have always installed our custom upper plenum. If the engine goes back,it hits the firewall. If the engine goes down,it hits the swaybar. If the engine goes up,it hits the hood. Anyone who has actually done the install,(not talked to his friend, read about it,heard from a friends friend, ect. ect .ect.) knows there isnt enough room to have all the things you guys talk about. You must, dent the firewall, hit the swaybar, hit the hood,or hit the steering!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! YOU CANT CLEAR IT ALL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!If you have Qs then please email me and you will get a real answer. If you have an rb in your car now, it would be stupid to buy my mount kit!Christian, you have my cell# so please call me, i would love to buy that mount kit. Thanks,Mike Sims

So, does this mean the RB25 to S14 mounts will not work with a completely stock RB ( intake, elbow, downpipe, etc) or is this on;y about the RB20. I was really looking forward to ordering a set from Night7

Mike I'll call you tomorrow.... I didn't have my cell phone on me today. I never said YOU said any of that stuff I quoted Cameron and what he has told me and even has on his website. I don't have a problem with you or your mounts because they work! I have a problem with the misrepresentation of them through one of your vendors. I'm sorry if you feel like I'm going after you or your product; I'm not.... I am just trying to clear up some misrepresentation.

Honestly people these are great mounts and I would recommend them to anyone, but along with that recommendation I would also say to contact Mike at TopHat directly.

I'm glad you posted on here Mike and I'm sorry if I've caused any problems, I just don't like being lied to mostly when it comes to money.

None of this is your fault. The breakdown is between me and Night. Desriptions he got were not clear and Cam is a salesman so he might have gotten alittle ahead of himself. To set the record straight now, we only have rb20det mount kits complete for the s13. rb25 and any s14 kits will not be sold until fully tested by us and any Qs about them need to come to me not Night.

All I can say about this whole mess is that I will be freakin' pissed if I have to cut the hood bracing. I dont care about spacing the freakin' sway bar or denting the fire wall. The only think I don't want is to cut my hood bracing that looks ghetto has hell. I was promised that it wouldn't do that and I don't expect it to. If it does there will be some calls. Contact me Cameron we have to talk about some other crap. I didn't get the engine hoist cause the guy that I was borrowing it from couldn't use it cause it rained the day he needed it. I will swap soon though.~ANDREW~

Well, I suppose you'll be suprised this evening when Cameron posts pictures. As a result of the accusations in this thread, he decided to test the mounts himself this afternoon by putting an RB25 in one of his S13's. Guess what.....they clear  I expect pictures up in an hour. I just got off the phone with him and he said he was finishing up some work on the skyline, then going home to post the pics.

bro you really should lay off the cursing...

what self respecting business, or business man goes on forums and argues with customers? I wouldn't even allow that type of of behavior from a "sponsor" if this was my forum. But its not so o well.

Anyways, take some better pics of the car, ones with you in them, otherwise who knows if its yours? and has your kit.

Also, dropping an rb25 in an s13 isn't rocket science, anyone can do it in a day, so you shouldn't gloat.

-Peace easy

If this was my forum, I wouldn't allow unsubstantiated bashing of a paid sponsor and little punks with keyboard courage stroking their egos.

It's not MY forum, but fortunatly I think the mods here share this frame of mind.

If you want some larger pictures, I have those pics and can put them in photopost so you can see it better....

And it's his car. I've seen it, riden in it, worked on it. It's also the same one he posted up here awhile ago that everyone was complementing saying how nice it looked.

I see nothing wrong or out of line about his posts... if he challenges your pictures authenticity then prove him wrong if you feel you need to do so.

If he asks for better pictures, then provide them. I'm sure the rest of your customers would appreciate them as well.

Frankly I think everyone needs to really chill out... Cameron that means you too, loosing your cool isn't going to help the situation any. I really don't want to see these personal problems drug onto NICO.

OK, THERE IS THE ONE PROBLEM THAT RB20'S AND RB25'S HAVE SLIGHTLY DIFFERENT UPPER MOUNTS. I HAVE A RB20DET IN A S13 NOT A RB25DET. CAMERON I FIND IT REALLY REALLY FUNNY THAT NOW WHEN YOU GET PROVEN WRONG BY THE MANUFACTURER YOU FREAK OUT AND PASS THE BUCK LIKE ALWAYS..... CAMERON ANOTHER THING HOW DO WE KNOW YOU HAVEN'T MODIFIED THE MOUNTS IN ANYWAY WHEN YOU NOTICED CLEARANCE ISSUES? HOW DO WE EVEN KNOW YOU ARE USING TOPHAT MOUNTS? WE DON'T...... OHH AND THE COMMENTS ABOUT YOUR CRAPTASTIC CONVERSION CAME STRAIGHT FROM A AUTOMOTIVE ENGINEER. ANYTIME YOU CUT THE FIREWALL YOU JUST DESTROYED THE CORE OF A UNIBODY CAR, WHEN YOU REWELD IT YOU WEAKEN IT FURTHER.

I'M TRYING TO REFRAIN FROM GETTING PERSONAL BUT IF YOU WANT TO DRAG IT OUT THERE ARE PLEANTY OF OTHER BULL**** FORUMS TO DO IT ON.

Ok, stop talking about cutting a the firewall because you are absolutely wrong. I run in body shop and we cut and weld vehicles all the time. If the welding is done properly with a sleeve or backing plate, then there is no difference from origional unles syou count STRONGER as a weakness. I hate to call bull**** on you, but you are absolutely wrong about this. Strength of a vehicle completely relies on the quality of work that goes into it.

Under your theory that welding makes the metal weaker, why do people sticth weld the unibody cars seams to increase strength and reduce chassis flex? I guess that all of those people are completely wrong.

The statement "ANYTIME YOU CUT THE FIREWALL YOU JUST DESTROYED THE CORE OF A UNIBODY CAR" is correct, but the rest about rewelding is is incorrect.

Sorry.

I'M NOT SAYING WELDING MAKES A CAR WEAKER I'M SAYING WHAT HE IS DOING IS MAKING THE CAR WEAKER.... AND HIS WELDS SUCK I HAVE SEEN THEM FIRST HAND. HE DIDN'T DO ANYTHING BUT CUT OUT THE CENTER SECTION OF THE RHD FIREWALL AN REWELD IT IN PLACE OF THE LHD ONE. HE NOR I AM A PROFESSIONAL WELDER IN ANYWAY AND IT REALLY SHOWS IN HIS WORK.

Dont argue metalwork with me, you are wrong. I have been in the auto body business for 11 years and working with cars for 18. I know what you are trying to say, but if the work is done correctly, usually the car is stronger than before, it is just that way. If you want to challenge my experience also, please feel free but you will fail. I am I-Car certfied across the board, inc in welding, which most people fail the first and second time they take the weld cert test, and ASE certified in Autobody repair. If you dont know what I-Car is then dont argue with a true autobody professional.

Thanks and dont change the subject....you brought up this topic to challenge the fitment of the mounts, not to qustion Cameron's welding techniques.

How do you know that was done the right way? because they cleaned it up & painted it nice? I cant see ANY of the selds, nor can I tell how much penetration or if the welds are plug or stitch and whether the correct heat was used so as not to warp the metal. Stop talking about the RHD swap.

I'VE SEEN THIS CAR FIRST HAND. ITS DOUBLE WALLED. THEY CREATED A WHOLE NEW WALL AND TIG WELDED IT IN PLACE OVER THE OLD WALL. CAMERON CUT OUT BOTH WALLS AND WELDED THE RHD ONE IN PLACE WITH A $5 WELDER.

I'M NOT ARGUING WITH YOU..... I HAVE JUST SEEN THIS CAR FIRST HAND AND WOULD FEEL EXTREMELY SORRY FOR ANYONE WHO WERE TO PURCHASE IT. I HAVE NO REASON TO CHALLENGE YOU, IF YOU WANT THE NUMBER OF THE AUTOMOTIVE ENGINEER WHO DID THIS CONVERSIONS AND MADE THE COMMENTS ABOUT CAMERONS CONVERSION EMAIL ME AND I WILL GIVE IT TO YOU. HE ALSO HAS INDEPTH PICTURES OF THE WHOLE PROCESS.

I WASN'T TRYING TO CHANGE THE SUBJECT ODDLY ENOUGH HE DID, WHICH IN REALITY IS REALLY NO SURPRISE TO ME.

I dont want a blanket statement out there saying that when you cut out a part and reweld one in you weaken a car because that makes my business look like a sham and could scare people when they get their car fixed from an accident. I dont really care if someone is an automotive engineer or not, I care about you saying that cutting and welding weakens metal, it just doesnt.

Now on with the show!

HEY CAMERON MY CAR HAS BEEN RUNNING FOR OVER A YEAR, THE HEATING PROBLEMS WE KNEW WHAT IT WAS AND I FINALLY GOT OTHER FANS, MY OTHER PROJECTS REQUIRE TONS OF MONEY THAT I HAD AND NO LONGER DO BECAUSE OF OTHER REASONS.

MOTOR MOUNTS AND A INTAKE MANIFOLD WOULD HAVE WORKED FOR ME BECAUSE IT WOULD HAVE ALLOWED ME TO USE MY FAN AS A PULLER AND SHROUD IT CORRECTLY. THE MANIFOLD WOULD HAVE LET SHORTEN MY IC PIPING AND STOP THE HOT IC FROM RE HEATING THE AIR OVER AGAIN.

HEY CAMERON YOU WANT TO ARGUE THE STRAIGHTNESS OF MY CHASSIS? WE CAN TAKE THE CAR RIGHT DOWN TO THE UNIBODY SHOP WE USE FOR MY JOB AND WE CAN FIND OUT HOW STRAIGHT IT IS. I DON'T HAVE TO FABRICATE PICTURES I HAVE REAL ONES TAKEN ON SATURDAY LAST WEEK.
