I honestly don't have a good reason/explaination for it. I'm sure some of our audio forum guys would know better, but at the car audio shop I used to always frequent (had many SPL and SQ awards/trophies), they said closer was better for passive crossovers and I seem to recall this advice being on many install guides. I think it has to do with the capacitors and inductors and how they "color" the signal and that longer runs of wires (just a few feet) increase resistance, and can alter the crossover point. This is with passive crossovers since they are b/t the amp and speaker. I dunno though bc I'm not a pro, nor am I an elec. engineer.

yeah, that makes sense. thats why OEM's put crossovers right in the doors....
oooooh wait. they're built into the amplifier/radio. huh. crazy.
these are NICE speakers, but far from "top shelf" or "audiophile" quality, and they are only amped via the deck. sooooo... no need for a crazy perfectionist setup.
they sound AWESOME as is... i should know... i run the SAME exact set in my car with a very similar setup, sounds fantastic. if you wanna get technical, the tweeter placement for ALL of us is horrible for soundstaging, but it sure as hell looks cool and sounds better with the windows down..
lol, well, again I can't back up what I've been told over the years. But it seems you're speaking of electronic crossovers (built into the radio), I'm talking about passive ones. Different systems, one is before amplification (active), one is after (passive). My tweeters are lower than most other S13 installs I've seen. Most manufacturers I'm familiar with recommend the tweeter be as close as possible to the mid, but no more than 8-12inches away. I measured 10" to the center and placed them there (compromised). As you know, if you put the tweeter right by the mid, you lose highs bc they hit your leg, so we put it higher up to "raise" the soundstage, but even at 8-12" phase problems appear. CAr audio, one big compromise. WC knows I wasn't knocking his set-up, just offering my .0002 Also, I really don't know enough to argue the point, esp. with someone who used to do it for a living (you were an installer weren't you?) So, if it sounds good to him, that's fine with me.

I actually used the supplied screws and screwed it to the door. I wanted them to be flush with the door, and the tape would have left a gap. I then cut narrow slits in the door to feed the speaker wire through. In hindsight, I should have drilled individual holes for each wire, would have been much cleaner.
