small little update with some bad news (nothing serious though). yesterday when my brother and i went up to work on the car we found a nice puddle of oil under teh transmission . so to find the culprit, we had to pull the transmission, remove the clutch and remove the flywheel. after all that the only problem was one of the lower studs wasnt fully in. those things are such a biotch so i pulled the trouble maker and found a bolt that fit instead of messing with it. after making sure it was good to go i put everything back together and i was basically where i was on saturday, with the transmission installed and ready to be dropped into he car.

after that i messed with installing the aluminum steering bushing. i had no idea how involved it was. the column had to come out, here you can see the old one next to the new one

i got everything ready to be reinstalled but decided to hold off on putting the steering column back in, until i install the clutch pedal and other 5 spd parts. theres so much more room without the column in. so i just need to pull the 5 spd parts of the black car.

here are the rest of the steering bushing pics

while i was messing with the steering bushing, my brother installed the new exhaust studs. there were only 6 studs at advanced auto so i'll pick up the other 2 from the one down the road.

earlier in the day, keegan and my brother bolted down the batter, ran the ground wire and installed the rest of the rear interior. all i need now is a 0 ga ring terminal for teh positive side, but its looking pretty good

thats all for now. tomorrow before work i'll pull some of the 5 speed stuff and replace the throttle cable.

Emailed you White commet. But ill post it here too. What was the process for installation of your rear subframe pineapple bushings ?is it the same as with solid aluminum bushings, where you have to burn out the old rubber, and knock out the actuall sleave that surounds it ?or do you leave the old sleaves ?

yes its the same for doing alum bushings. after everything is out, just lubricate and slide them in. then once the subframe is bolted up it'll compress the bushings.

EDIT: I found one.

the one i have is kai project or project kai. i got it from askme4parts on ebay. the one you linked is similar but looks a little flimsier. also, the bolt holes look kinda small. with mine, i threw some massive carriage bolts right through the frame

man there's been a lot going on since the last update, let's see the last thing i updated on was the steering bushing install. before putting everything in i thought it would be easiest to convert the car to manual with the steering column out of the way. i was just going to cut the brake pedal, but with the column gone i swapped in the manual brake pedal as well as the clutch pedal and gas pedal. there was no real reason to swap in the gas pedal other then the fact that i'm using the throttle cable from the other car and i just undid and replaced the whole pedal since i was worried i might snap the plastic ring that holds the cable to the pedal. with the column out everything was insanely easy. the whole 5 speed swap is stupid easy once you have all the parts. nissan outlines exactly where you have to cut for the clutch pedal and master cylinder. heres the clutch pedal just sitting in there waiting for the clutch master cylinderi pulled the old cmc just to test fit the holes and sure enough it fit like a glove.heres the old oneand heres how the holes should look from the bayi had to wait til the next day for the new master cylinder to come in and i also ordered a new slave cylinder at the same time. heres the new master cylinderthe slave cylinder i ordered was for a z31 and its looking good after some paintand here it is on the trans

the brake pedal bolted up

the gas pedal with new throttle cable

and heres everything installed without the column back in

and the master cylinder installedhere it is hooked up to the pedal

the new throttle cable (looking much better then the old one)

old throttle cable

next i just popped in the clutch line

in that pic, the clutch master cylinder is covered since i sanded and repainted the brake master cylinder

with everything run i was ready to put the column and steering bushing back in. it ended up taking insanely long, since i bolted the column in first after having the column entirely installed i really didn't want to take it back out to put the steering rod in first, so i tried to find other ways, the long and the short is that i wasted a lot of time and finally ended up dropping the steering rack to get everything together. heres a few pics from that hole progress

heres the column back in from the inside

before the engine went in i also touched up the paint and swapped the ps lines to the dohc ones

everything was ready for the engine to go in, but i got a little discouraged when i had to pull the trans again. somehow the slider got a little jammed and wouldn't allow the shifter to move at all. i had to unbolt the trans and remove the bell housing, but everything is fine now. heres some shots

earlier in the week my brother got a local alternator and battery shop to crimp on a 0 gauge ring terminal

heres just some random shots i havethe last pic kinda made me laugh, i cut my hand on something at like 2 am and i knew if i went down to the house for a band aid it'd wake my parents, so this was the quick fix.

i didn't have a camera for the last part of the update and my hands were too full anyways, but this quick cell pic should give you an idea the best part is thats with all the wiring already ran.

the engine went in nicely and i'll have more on that tomorrow, but heres a sneak peak at a side project that i'm working on

hope you enjoyed the update

Wirings clean, the 5 speed swap on my coupe was a pain because im a big guy and i had the steering column in, so the clutch pedal + brake pedal = pain in a**.

Cool update man. I dont get the teaser pics ? They look the same.

I got my pedals out while leaving the column in... Didn't seem too hard, column was lowered tho.

when i get under the car tomorrow i'll snap some bumper support pics. my brother did a really good job on the brackets too. the 2nd teaser pic is hard to see, but the paint is scratched up from drilling. as for the first pic....theres a reason the solenoid is sitting there

i just wanted to show a quick progression of pics
