Driving down the highway and some kid in a lowered Eclipse GT with aftermarket exhaust revs at my 240. All I have, performance-wise, is an Injen intake and Apexi N1 single. He speeds past as he revs and gets several car lengths ahead. Well, naturally I don't take too kindly to that jesture, so, I catch up and get beside him. He drops gears, I put it in 3rd and we hit it. I pulled him by a car from 65 to about 90. Those things have 200HP and 200ft. lbs. What a POS!! It's basically my first race race in my 240. I'm used to killing vettes with my GN, but, I honestly didn't think I'd beat a V6 Eclipse with the 240.

he didnt miss any gears, I can assure of that, I would have heard it considering my windows were down and I could hear the intake he had as well. I raced a new Civic SI yesterday that had headers and an intake. We rolled from 1st at about 3,500, my front bumper was at his rear, we hit it at about the same time just messing around b/c we had talked at the stop light. It was about dead even.

I have a hard time believing that you walked a V6 Eclipse.

The guy driving the eclipse must be a moron. I love my 240 but I also drive a Dodge Stratus RT Coupe with the same V6 and 5 spd that the eclipse has. The Stratus will walk the 240 any day.

you dont have to believe it if you dont want to. I've been involved in street racing since before I could drive. Used to go with my brother all the time. My first car was an '87 Buick GN. The 240 is the absolute slowest car I have ever owned. I wouldn't be bragging about beating an Eclipse if I didn't think it was a legitimate win. Besides, that guy sure didn't stick around to try to race me again, he just went on his way. So, obviously he didn't think he could beat me. I honestly didn't think i'd beat him, but, I did. You wanna race that R/T??

Mines a 92 155hp ka24de Same as yours. Actually mine might have less restrictive emmision control equipment than yours although I'm not sure on that one.

Hey if you beat the guy good job!! I just think he wasn't very good.

What ya coulda done at the end of the 1/4" mile doesn't matter!!! It's who gets there first.

I'd love to take rip with ya but according to Mapquest it's 1,568 miles from Winnipeg to Greenville

Peace

Well, I guess I was "sleep driving and dreamed that I raced one" Why would I lie?? My last car was a 450RWHP Buick GN. This is like racing power wheels to me right now. I just got this car and I'm out testing the waters to see what all I can beat. How the hell can anyone make a driver error when we both put our cars in 3rd and floored them and I pulled him about a car length?? Just b/c you can't beat one with your 240, doesnt mean I can't. Hell, I sat right beside a new Civic SI that had an intake and header and we were just playing around. I was granny shifting just having some fun. I'm sure I could have beat him as well. I may not beat either one by much, but, an inch is all it takes.

i think alot of people don't think 240s are as fast as they are because they have no idea where to shift in this car. Cory since you've been racing for years, you probably know the benifits of you know, staying in your torque curve and shift before 6grand, am I right?

You are exactly right, toki. I am an experienced racer who has built many cars. I owned a Buick GN for 11 years, so, I know all about turbo cars. I've built a few Mustangs, 2 of which were supercharged. I bought the 240 b/c it's a challenge to get more out of a 2.4 and I wanted a lightweight car. The car is sporty, fun to drive, gets great gas mileage, and looks bad ***. I love this car and look forward to working with it and making lots of power. It's all about power to weight ratio afterall :) My car seems to make power to about 6,200-6,300. I think that the torque curve has moved further upward from stock due to the intake and exhaust. I plan on getting a header, test pipe, a/f gauge, and SAFC II next. Then, I'll build a KA, or supercharge the stock engine.

Sounds sweet cory, but you might run into some "snags" with trying to super charge the KA. Read around and search and you'll find out it's no easy task. Good luck! Oh btw, I believe you about the eclipse.

yeah as far as HP and torque ratings on cars its BS that eclipse probably doesn't come close to 200hp and tq. The new RSX-S doesn't come close to its ratings either...In other words they pretty much make up those numbers, plus that v6 eclipse is heavy which is the other determining factor so what if it has 200hp and weighs @3500lbs. wooo thats fast!mitsubishi is garbage!

^ god I cant stop laughing at that video clip Tachyon!

i've always wondered if i could take on a 3rd gen Eclipse.Despite the fact that they have v6's, have 200hp and decent torque doesn't cover up the fact they are HEAVY. Stratus' R/T's seem faster, imo.

I posted a thread on FA couple of weekends ago. i managed to take on a SVT Contour--- by a car length-- that was trying to cut me off/ block me from joining my convoy of friends on the way to the movies.

i was surprised at that.

but again, it's about driver skill. kid may not have missed gears, but probably didn't know how to shift/work with the powerband that he has.

i salute you cory! i've always wanted to put those turds in their place.

Thanks guys. I had planned on making the point that those cars are alot heavier than the 240, but, droptopsilvia beat me to it :) Do not fear the V6 Eclipse, they suck. As for the "snags" I may run into while trying to Supercharge my S14, I don't forsee many. I'm an experienced fabricator and I have the means to get the job done. It will be done, probably sometime next year.

also to mention my friend had a Stratus R/T and that thing could do some damage but antoher friends just got a 2001 Eclipse GT and we went for it and we were pretty close in the begining then about when we let of he was approx. 3 ft. in front of me (i have a completley stock 1995 240sx se) i was acctually suprized in the power (or lack there of in some cases) of the KA.

My friend has a 99 v6 stang witch is about as fast as the stratus R/T. My friend would kick my 240's *** with a person in his car and the AC on, but my car was worn out, and needs some work. but even after my rebuild it wasnt a problem for him to beat me. know he has a SC running 13lbs and making close to 300 rwhp so its going to be awhile befor i can beat that. but yes if you beat an Eclipse GT good kill, wish my 240 was that fast.

you hold out till 6.2k-6.3k rpms? all i got is intake and exhaust i feel the torq curve dramaticly drop after 5.6k except for first, first likes to drag out till 5.9k.

didnt early 3rd gen gt eclipses come with the 4cyl? like 2000-2001? i know the rs is a 4cyl not sure bout the gt.

I believe ya that ya beat the V6, my friend had a '01 GS(4 cyl) and i was moppin the floor with him in my '89, he claimed the tach was off and he was shifting at the wrong times, but i think i should know his car well enough(had it for about a year and a half and raced often) to know by feel and sound of the engine to know when to shift, so yeah i believe ya with no doubt. The '00 GT's were V6 also but had more hp then the '01-now because they didnt have a restrictor plate for emissions so they had like 10 more hp, same goes for the GS from what i can remember. But hey all in all my friend learned.....he just got a '03 Spec V 2 months ago, he's stomping me, the ***.

V6 Mustangs aren't that hard to beat in a 240, neither are the V6 Eclipses. I have beaten both in my 240.....and yes I have raced more than one so that removes the always favorite "He didn't know how to drive". BTW: One of the mustangs was at a track. =)

I let some idiot pretend to race me in a stratus rt, pretty funny seeing as I was wearing face paint at the moment and he was trying to impress his girl friend, how you'd do it in a stratus is beside me:D
