nothing is too farfetched as you can see with this thread.

but the vq35hr and vq37 are almost essentially the same size

its like asking wether or not you could fit into size 34 d!ck or 34 JNCOs...

same size...just one has deeper pockets lol

Actually, I have to step in here and correct you. Though the displacement is nearly identical, there is a good bit of difference. The VQ35DE has a block height of 100mm. The VQ35HR, VQ37 and VQ40 all have a block height of 120mm. They also have an extra few inches of circumfrence on the back of the block due to a larger bellhousing on the transmission.

So, you have a taller engine with heads spaced farther apart, a larger bellhousing and a larger manifold.

Im not saying it wont fit, because it will, but exhaust piping will be difficult, like doing a VK56 swap. With enough time and money, any motor can be put in any car (see Jay Leno for how to turbo charge a Tank engine and put it in a roadster).

Also, availability of anything used for a VQ35HR and VQ37 is scarce. New parts are still cheap as the vehicles are still under warranty (Nissan pays the dealer to repair a car under warranty, therefore, the parts prices are adjusted to be lower, to lessen the expense to the manufacturer. Once the majority of that part on the road, is out of warranty, the price is adjusted to a higher amount for maximum profit at the dealer).

So yes, its doable. Is it necessary, not really. The HR only makes 1 more HP than the VQ35DE Rev-Up model though it does have a larger power band. Its always up to the wallet (or for married men, the lady).

Later!

S12 200sx rear diff change out!!!!! (off topic, but kinda cool)

By the way. If you own an S12 (200sx...the real one) and you want a limited slip in it, I have a cheap fix for that as well.

The R200, we know, has been installed in our cars since the 70's. Before, the S12 guys were having to find rear differentials from the 86/87 Turbo 300zx. No more!!!

Find an Infiniti M30. Get the diff only from that. Now before you guys start wining about how the flange is different, let me say something.

Take your S12, get it up in the air, pull the axles (pain in the butt), then pull the rear diff cover off. Pull out the bearing caps and mark them (driver/passenger). Pull the diff out, with shims, from the diff housing. Remove the ring gear from the S12 diff. Now get the diff out of the M30 differential housing and keep the shims with it (again, drivers side, passenger side should be noted). Remove the ring gear from the M30 diff and install the 200sx gear, use thread locker and a good bit of torque. Install the M30 diff with bearings and shims to the S12 carrier housing. Install the S12 bearing caps, diff cover and axles.

There you go. It may not be a clutch type limited slip, but it is a locker and better than a open diff.

Hope you guys like this. There should be pics up of this shortly.

Oh, and M30 differentials....about $75.00. 86/87 300zx clutch type diffs....about $300 (both from junkyards).

More pics....

The folder so far. It's starting to get pretty thick.

The boxes of wiring I have to install.

The beginning of wiring this thing. I had already seperated the 240sx engine room harness (on ECCS harness) when I removed the motor. By doing this, I saved myself a huge headache later on (or now, however you want to see it).

Spaghetti anyone?

Just to fill in the "do-it-yourselfers". This is a 6 terminal plug from a fuel injector subharness. I am using it for the Accelerator Pedal connector. The pins line up, but the orange clip (normaly inside connector, not there now) will keep the pins from seating completely in the pedal sensor. You'll need to trim the outside of the connector off, and leave the tab that holds it in place. I have posted this for one reason. The gas pedal connector on a Z is part of the engine room harness....NOT the dash harness, NOT the engine control harness. Also, there is only one plug that fits the gas pedal, and it wont come with most of the harnesses you buy. So, since I didn't have an extra engine room harness laying around (donated the last one to the red car), I had to make a connector. If you are doing this swap, and dont have access to extra wiring or connectors, then just solder the Z injector subharness already on your motor, to the Engine control harness and use that connector on the gas pedal. This is not my perfered way to do things, but since it's my car, and Im not spending hundreds on a harness for one connector, this will do just fine.

If you do it this way, make sure you ziptie the connector to the pedal sensor. The tab holds firmly, but better safe than sorry. Remember, APP is an immediate FAIL SAFE fault, and will also result in no throttle operation.

Installed in the car. Not much here to see.

10 hours later and I finally have the engine room wired up. I still have to wire in the Refrigerant Pressure sensor (A/C sensor) and the alternator. I had to make my own E10, E11 and E12 connectors. Those three are what connect the engine harness to the main harness. This is where most of the power is wired in, as well as the gas pedal and various sensors.

On the shock tower, there are the E10, E11 and E12 connectors. Compare them to the red car I built. They are different because I installed connectors that I had both male and female ends for.

I lenghtened the #2, #4, and #6 coil wiring so that I could run it under the cover (from rear of engine).

That's the latest update!

I've been watching this thread for a long time. Lots of respect for you man. Will the intake plenum on the HR fit the DE? The dual intake's supposed to help response right? And what can you do (other than getting aftermarket parts) to the internals to make the DE rev as high as HR?

The 35th anniversary motor was called the REV-UP model. The redline was higher, and HP was only 1 hp less than the HR model. That engine had exhaust cam timing as well as intake cam timing. All you need is a 2005 35th anniversary motor, or an 06/07 Manual Tranmission motor to get the correct cams and wiring. The 06/07 motors will need the 05 REV-UP lower plenum. High reving isnt really a big deal though.

The NISSAN GT-R has been debuted at the Tokyo Motor Show two nights ago. It is one wicked car. Rumor is that only one technician per dealership will be sent to training on this model. I have already cleared it with my boss that I will be going for that training. Hopefully when the time comes, I will get to go.

Once there, click LAUNCH GT-R SITE

This, my friends, is the car WE WILL BE GETTING! Finally, all those years working on POS GT-R's from Japan, and I FINALY get to work on a brand new one!!!!!!!

Yep. I LOVE that car. I've been following it for a while now.

I can't wait to see one of those on the streets. Too bad I won't be able to afford one. I hope it does well in the USDM industry.

Hey gang,

On the GT-R, be forewarned that it will be a very limited production. Approximately 2100, or one per dealer. They will also be sold on a lotery system. This means, although the base price is around $60K, you have to get on a list to purchase one. Then, once on the list, you will get selected to purchase it randomly. If that doesnt happen, there is the possibility that it will be like an auction, where the price starts at $60K and just goes up depending on who has the most money.

Later gang!

hmmm....do you think that will help sales, or hurt it?

Since its a limited run, sales is not the problem. Not only will it create demand, it will increase profit greatly.

OK GANG!

This is the engine Friday afternoon prior to leaving work. I didnt work on it any this past weekend (full moon, gone fishing!). But I did get all the cooling hoses installed today and the keys registered. I still need to solder a few wires and add some sensors, but...............................

IT RUNS!!!! And I have to say, this thing revs much faster than the last one I built. I havent allowed it to get to full operating temp, but I did redline it a few times tonight. You might say....."Why redline a motor without breaking it in first?". Well, if somethings going to break, now is when it is more likely to happen. After I run it a few more times and see that it is ok, I'll take it easy to properly break it in.

Hope you guys like it!

Hey gang,

I had a chance to do a little test drive around the dealership in the car tonight. Its running extremely lean, so i couldn't hammer it. The gas is over 1 year old and I havent tuned the fuel yet. I will fill it with 100 octane the first of next week and tune the fuel some. This should get it where I can drive it enough to get some good data. Once I see what type of curve it produces with 100 octane, I can set the fuel pressure to correct for 93 octance. If your a tech, then you know that an A/F ALPHA of 140% is nearly unheard of, well, that's what Im running.

Once the fuel trim is close to correct, I can take it to get the exhaust made. Hopefully I will be driving this thing in a week or so!!!!

There is no point. The R200V in the 350Z is the same as in the J30, 300ZX, Q45. The only difference is the housing (case). Actually, an early 90's Q45 differential will bolt directly in, without changing axles and has the same gear ratio.

I bow before your wealth of knowledge. I just spent like 3 hours reading all 12 pages. And all 12 pages had tons of useful information, no useless crap like most long posts end up having. I'm gonna be looking alot more closely at the pull-a-part for wrecked 350's and G35s...

Also, any more plans on having a writeup for the J30 brakes in the rear?
