I think the VR in the versa works pretty well. The only problem I had was it thinking I said "0" when I'd say "Home". So I changed the phonebook entry for Home to "Mi Casa". It understands Spanish better.

How did you do the training?

Does anyone know how to send DTMF tones while engaged in a call? like "Press one to hear your messages". I have to pick up the phone and press one.

Finally I can join the group of *owners*! I picked up my Blue Onyx CVT SL w/ABS (one of the few in existence, as I understand) yesterday, after a 3 month wait! I can't believe I finally have this car!

Versa's VR tells you to check the manual if you are having trouble.
Versa Owner Manual, Pg 4-38 wrote:SPEAKER ADAPTATION (SA) MODE

Speaker Adaptation allows up to two out-of-dialect users to train the system to improve recognition accuracy. By repeating a number of commands, the users can create a voice model of their own voice that is stored in the system. The system is capable of storing a different speaker adaptation model for memory A and memory B.
The instructions go on for another two pages, so check your manual out and do the training. You'll need to have the car started but not in motion and it takes about 5 minutes. You'll be asked to repeat phrases which are spoken by the VR and printed in the manual.

I've discovered this accidentally during a call...
Versa Manual, Pg 4-34 wrote:During a call there are several command options available. Press the (VR command) button on the steering wheel to mute the receiving voice and enter commands.

"Send/Enter/Call/Dial" - Use the Send command to enter numbers during a call. For example, if you were directed to dial an extension by an automated system:

Say : "Send one two three four" The system acknowledges the command and sends the tones associated with the numbers. The system then ends the VR session and returns to the call.
Other options available during a call are "Help", "Go back/correction", "Cancel/Quit", "Transfer call" and "Mute."

Pretty cool stuff!

Red 1.8 S; 6 SPD Manual Transmission

Extras include Power Package, 5 piece mat set, and all-window tint

Stickered at $14,255 with tint. Paid $13,600.

Have owned it since August 7, have nearly 8k miles on it. Average about 28mpg combined city/hwy. Have had it serviced for the TPMS twice.

I was hoping for a little better fuel economy, but absolutely love the car.

Hi, just got my versa fixed up. Its all black, with tint, and American Racing wheels. I'd like to put up a picture, but I 'm not sure how to do it. Any ideas? Got a great deal. A guy won the car, and didn't want it. (wanted a truck), so desperate, he sold it to me for $9800. WOW! My lucky day. cruncher

Post

I've been reading posts in this forum for some time now. Decided to join and add to the conversation. I am waiting for my SL, CVT, cruise, ABS, Convenience Pkg to arrive. I put a $500 deposit on October 2nd for the next incoming Versa at the dealership. The dealership expected their next allotted Versa to arrive within 3 or 4 weeks. A week later, the dealership called me and said that the Versa they were expecting did not have cruise control but they could request one and it would arrive approximately the same time. A few weeks after that the car I had been driving gave out on me on my way to work. My sales rep just happened to call me a day after my car died to let me know that the 2007 Sentras were in, and maybe I should stop by and take a look at one. I did just that, took it for a test drive but still wanted my hatchback Versa. The sales manager told me if I bought the Versa that day, they would give me the 2007 Sentra to drive until the Versa showed up. We went for the deal and I have been driving the new Sentra for 6 weeks. I have put on 2000 miles so far. The Sentra has CVT but no cruise or convenience package. It really scoots down the road and I am going 80 mpg before I know it. (I was pulled over one night and given a warning to slow down!) I haven't been worried about getting my Versa as I am still driving a new car and putting the commute miles on the Sentra and not my Versa. The Sentra is fairly quiet and handles quite nicely. I'm hoping the I will like the Versa once it arrives. I am happy with my dealership. My cost for the Versa is $15,155. I also bought the extended warranty. The car was supposed to arrive December 8 but no word yet. If the dealer had not given me the Sentra to drive, I am not sure I would or could have waited for the Versa. I'll keep you posted as to when it arrives and how I compare it to the Sentra.

If a Versa has a CVT, it has cruise also. ALL SL's have cruise. Not sure what your dealer was talking about, maybe he was trying to push an S on you, thinking you wouldn't know the difference?

Ordered my Versa back in October and it arrived on Saturday, just before Christmas. Love it so far, but have only had the chance to put about 20 miles on it.

Got the Saphire Blue SL with CVT.

Anyone have any comments on whether or not the extended warranty is worthwhile?

Yes, you are right. I think the dealer thought that the next Versa they were getting was an SL and it turned out to be an S. I think once they realized their mistake, they ordered a SL. I asked for silver but now I am kinda wishing I would have requested the blue onyx .

Hi! I got my Versa in Oct. It's the SL CVT. Silver. I'm having a problem with my dashboard - the part over the passenger keeps popping up. Anyone else with this problem? I'm also surprised at the poor the gas mileage - my 10 year old mitsu did better.... I barely get 30...

Hey there,

Just wanted to drop a quick note here. I'm a very happy Versa owner, got it in the Chicago area in August 2006. It's the S model with a manual transmission. Overall I like it a lot. It's the midnight blue color.

I had a problem with the TPMS on it at about 500 miles. Took it to the dealer and they reset the system. I was upset at the time, because the dealer didn't seem to have listened to me that the light flashing meant it was malfunctioning, but I'm about about 2k miles now and no additional problems.

I was wishing I had cruse control when I was driving over the holidays, 720 miles each way straight and I was sore. Any idea if this will be an accessory part from Nissan at some point?

Hello everyone! My name is Chris and I recently bought a Nissan Versa, my first new car . I bought it on 12-22-06 and drove home that night with such a smile on my face and saying Merry Christmas to me . It is Magnetic grey SL with charcoal interior, Mats, CVT, power package, ABS, Tinted windows, and cruise cntrl and a few other options. I paid $16,565.00 for it. So far I love it and it has 535 miles on it and is getting about 30MPG, a bit less than advertised but still much better than my old Jeep CJ7 I was driving every day. I added some custom winter mats to the inside along with a blue LED light, looks cool at night. I also just ordered the AEM cold air intake and filter kit for it in hopes of increasing the MPG and HP a bit. I also just purchased a set of LED fog lights for it and haven't had a chance to install them. The only problem I have had was recently my TPMS came on and it turned out that my right rear tire had a nail in it . I just had it repaired a few days ago and it's been fine. Really enjoy this website, thanks to all that make it possible!

Greetings, everyone! I've been trolling around here for a while as I waited for my Versa which I just received on Wednesday (ordered 9/30)!

It is a Blue Onyx, 6 MT with nearly all the goodies except for ABS which seemed to be extremely hard to order. It had 11 miles on it and looks sharp! I have not had any issues yet (only a couple of days), but I will be watching for the common ones like TPMS and the airbag light. However, it seems that the more recently made vehicles have less incidences of these failures...is that correct?

I am just about to go outside and really sit down with the car since I haven't had much time to see it in the light or set things up.

This forum seems very helpful...I look forward to participating.

Hey all! I've had my Versa since they have been available here in the frosty north! Mine was the first to leave the Nissan 417 dealership in Ottawa, Canada!!! (My claim to fame ) I've got the 1.8 SL HB with technology package, brakes package, alloy wheels, & 6 speed manual (as fully loaded as they get up here). I love my Versa, I love her so much I gave her a name... Bertha! That's right Bertha the Versa! !!! I was very excited when I found NICO. I am looking forward to the good times NICO brings!

I got my Versa SL CVT on three days ago. It was snowing heavily and the road became patchy, icy and shinny too. However, the V handles this kind of road condition very good. Except that my rear hatch door was frozen. However, the detailing shop that doing the protection package has de-frozed it. It works very well now.

By the way, the detailing did a wonderful job with 4 protections (rust, undercoat, interior, and paint) with life time warranty at $400. They offered yearly fee inspection too.
