Like OMG! Back from the dead right?!
Okay seriously though, teddy’s thread lit a fire under my a** too so here’s the continuation, because I’m not one of those dudes that just gives up on a project, I just forget to write about it
So about the time I stopped writing, we actually sorta put the build on the back burner, that’s probably why I stopped writing now that I think about it! This happened for a number of reasons, the main one was that I was unhappy with the stock output of my street cars ka24de, so I bought a blown up ca18det and we rebuilt it and were going to put it in my street hatch, but didn’t because I finally decided I wanted to finish my racecar and not my street car. If anyone ever sees me in real life, slap me for buying that ca, it was a turd when we got it, but we did a quick rebuild and sold it to some happy kid just like me for 1800, not a bad deal for him, great deal for me.
Alrighty, after I got my priorities straight, we started ANOTHER engine build. Remember that I mentioned we were going to use an s14 blacktop? Well I have s***ty luck with motors cause we bought the blacktop, luckily from a friend and compression tested it and it had like 60psi in the back two cylinders. Good thing my friend is a stand up guy and he refunded us 100% that same day. That very night me and dad decided to do something a little more original that could guarantee us the results we wanted with no surprises, the next day I called AMS, then right after that I called JGS. I can honestly say that’s the fastest I have ever spent 3 grand.
A few days later I received this in the mail, along with a plethora of other parts I don’t have individual pictures of.
While we waited on our motor to return from the machine shop, me and dad finished the interior.
So now things are really coming along, the motors back from the machine shop and ready for final assembly. In case you haven’t caught on yet, we decided to do a fully built ka24det, that way if we build it we can ensure no surprises.
At this point, the engine was all together, in the car, and actually running! We kept the stock injectors and maf on it at first, so we could start it and just let it idle to make sure everything was peachy for the tuner. After we were sure the motor was tight, guess what? Load it on a trailer and drag it back over to the boys at UP for a Nistune setup and some dyno time. A week later we got the car back, breathing beautiful turbo ka fire. Now the motor was done, and we could concentrate on other aspects of the build.
Oh, I also picked these bad boys up from some kid, it’s a love it or hate it sort of modification, people come up to me all the time and tell me they hate my exhaust, and I politely tell them they don’t have to look at it.
That’s all I’m going to type right now, but believe me this story gets better and better as it goes on. –Tyler
