The long overdue update is finally here. Im going to briefly go over 2011 and the changes that are happening to the car for 2012. Ill sprinke in some pics that loosely relate to the time period im talking about, sometimes its hard for me to remember exactly what pics are from what day. If anyone wants any extra info please just let me know, I try to be really open and friendly both online and in person because that’s one of the things I hated when I was starting out, I needed to ask some “dumb” questions and I didn’t feel comfortable talking to any of the seasoned guys in my area.
Anyways, flashback to 2011. I did indeed compete in the Evergreen Drift Pro-am championship held at evergreen speedway. The course we use at evergreen is the same course as the Formula D pros use and its very high speed and pretty scary for a first timer like myself. I ran rounds one and two the basically the same car set up as I had the previous year and it was working okay, but with the added stress of long 4th gear drifts I was starting to brake things so it was time for some upgrades.
The main thing we changed last year was our engine management. Ask anyone who has a successful KA-T and they should tell you that’s the most important part. My Nistune setup was working before, but the step up to the proam level required some bigger guns, so I bought the biggest. MoTeC!
I got hooked up with
http://www.johnreedracing.com and a shop in the Portland Area called Portland Speed Industries, or PSI. I bought a MoTeC M84 box from John, and he re-tuned the car. John is an amazing tuner and im honored to have him tune my vehicles, as his normal clients are the Underground Racing twin turbo Lambos.
With Johns help, we bumped the power up to 407whp and 377ft-lbs.
After the tune, the car was so awesome! The throttle response is insane with the MoTeC and everything is running like it’s supposed to. Round 3 was my first race with the new setup and everything went great. Round 4 was help in conjunction with FD Seattle so it was awesome being able to drive on the “big stage” so to speak. I was unfortunately knocked out in the great 8 after we suffered a fuel starvation issue due to still running a stock tank. Evergreen drift runs 5 rounds in its proam division, but unfortunately I was unable to attend round 5. Even with missing a round I still finished 5th overall in the standings, and the top four guys were awarded FD pro licenses.
Now that we are basically caught up, here is whats happening in 2012. As you may have read from a couple posts above, im working with ASD and Falken for a second year. I love these guys and they are honestly like family to me now, so im very excited to continue our partnership.
I have also totally redesigned my website, facebook, and twitter and I please ask that if you guys have any of those things to follow/like my pages. It really would mean a lot to me as im really trying to get my name out there for 2012. Also, I update them more frequently than this thread, so it’s an awesome way to stay up to date. Plus sometimes I do giveaways for cool s***, or just cause I like you.

Now on to the car, basic recipe is still the same but we have made some much-needed improvements. First up is the wastegate. I fought my old gate all last season, I broke it 3 times, it would either stick open or closed and it was so frustrating. I think the issue was because I was asking a street oriented wastegate to perform under conditions it was never intended for, so I ditched it for 2012. I bought a Tial MVR gate, which is amazing. Its water-cooled and proven in some of the harshest race environments so if I break this one something else is up.
I also upgraded to a z32 transmission to improve reliability. Also, a mid mount intercooler was installed; new ASD hydro handbrake, and a dual rear caliper setup are all new for this season. I know I kinda covered this stuff quickly, but its all detailed in my last two blog posts on my site.
Anyways, that’s about it so far this year. My first practice day is March 31st and im hoping to pick up right where I left off. -Tyler
