Building the coupe is a better idea. Front frame damage is nothing. If you want, you can make a Tube Frame out of it by using steel and aluminum combination. You can also replace the front bumper support with aluminum bars to make it lighter. (needs more bars for same strength as steel)

For Drifting I would recommend NA engines. Turbo engines have non-linear torque curves compared to NA. KA24DE rebuild are cheap, so I would go that way till you get a hang of it. After that you can drop a more powerful VQ35DE for better weight and power.

Good that you went with the coupe. There are too many hatchs out there anyway.

If you want to lose weight at the front, I recommend Silvia conversion or removing the headlight assembly and replacing with a cover just before racing.

exactly, thats why we went with the coupe. we are just going to clip the front and bend it back around straight.

Good luck with the build. I've always wanted to do something like that with my dad. Its a bit too late for that now and he really doesnt have any interest in cars at all. Just as long as one gets him to his jobs, he could care less about who made them or what year they were... bummer....

I'd love to except there are 2 problems with that:

1) No garage or anywhere to work on the car (our apartment doesnt even allow vacuuming out our cars!!!)

2) Don't have a 240 at the moment... FTL!!

If you live in an apartment and don't have a garage, most storage places rent out their larger storage units to people who work on cars. At least that's how it is in my town.

step ahead of ya man! haha but yes, the rears are already all done and we are waiting to get a front end on it before we do the front bushings. we got the hyperflex master set for my dd but decided it would be put to better use in this application.

Small Update:i picked up a whole other car, it comes with a sil front, but it was hit in the rear so we are going to just use the silvia conversion for the red car. also, with a whole car comes lots of parts, so keep an eye out

Laugh, my dad is old school too. I had so many problems with my ka that I proposed to him sorta half hazardly one day about replacing it with a sbc and he was more than willing to roll with it. we were even joking about putting in his 383/powerglide out of his drag car but I want it to be streetable. Good fortune with your build bro

UPDATE:as promised, i picked up another 1992 240sx coupe. the story on this one is the kid put a sil front on, then about a week later he got rear ended and pushed into the car infront of him and insurance totaled it. it has front core support damage but way less then the red coupe, so this is now the car that will be the main chassis for the build, as of right now. i dont know if i will keep the sil fron cause it needs some work, and all the usdm front end pieces are clean and i got those too, so they might end up back on the car, for now.

pics:

not bad for 500 bucks if you ask me.
